BLAKE, Nita L. - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, St. John's on Thursday, November 9, 2006, Nita L. Blake of New Chelsea, age 77 years. Retired Teacher. Predeceased by parents: Pamela and Aaron Francis. BUTT, Mark - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Friday, November 3, 2006, Mark Butt of Carbonear, age 84 years. Predeceased by parents: John and Julia Ann, granddaughter: Grace Murphy, sister: Marion, brother: Silas and sister-in-law: Jean Butt. Left to mourn, wife: Drucella; three daughters: Debbie (Reuben) Squibb, Carbonear, Carolyn (Sean) Murphy, Hammonds Plains, NS and Gina (Roger) Spurrell, Clarenville; six grandchildren: Christopher, Mark, Shayne, Harry, Susannah and Clara Beth; one sister: Emma (Reg) Clarke, Victoria; also a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. CANNING, Hubert Norman - Passed away November 23, 2006 at the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor, Hubert Norman Canning. He was 64. Predeceased by wife, Bernetta; parents, Theophilus and Rachel, sister, Edna, stepbrother, Simon; brother-in-law, Tom, grandchild, Christopher. Left to mourn are son, Dione (wife, Rebecca) of Whale Cove, Nunavut, daughters, Debbie (Harve Slade), of Salmon Cove, Dianne (Bruce Slade), of Salmon Cove; friend and companion, Eva Waterman. Also leaving to mourn sister, Annie Blanchard, brother, Warrick, stepsister, Ettie; five grandchildren, Gavin (Allison), Nicole, Gina, Patience and Sydney; two step-great-grandchildren, Dylin and Cailin and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Pastor Gary Andrews conducted funeral services at Windsor Pentecostal Church, Grand Falls-Windsor, on Sunday, November 26, 2006. Interment was at Windsor Pentecostal Cemetery, Caribou Road. COLE, Harold Sr. - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, Harold Cole Sr. of Victoria, age 88 years. EARLE, Mr.James (Jimmy) - Of Carbonear passed peacefully at the Carbonear General Hospital, Carbonear on Saturday, November 18, 2006. Mr. Earle was 58 years old. He was predeceased by his father James Earle. He leaves to mourn his loving family: mother Veronica Earle, Carbonear; brothers: George (Sophie) Earle, Carbonear, Gerry (Minnie) Earle, Carbonear; sister Patsy Layden, Victoria; nephews and nieces: Sherri Ann (Scott) Cooper, Eugene Layden, Christopher (Jennifer) Layden, Paul (Marina) Schiralli-Earle, Tanya (Brandon) Roach, Jeff Earle (Pam) and Michael Layden; great nephews and niece: Stephanie and Luke Layden, Matt and Ben Cooper; brother-in-law Eugene Layden; special friends: James (Mary) Southwell, Carbonea; and a large circle of relatives and friends. GRIFFIN, Leo - Of Carbonear, who passed peacefully at the Health Science Center, St. John's, NL on Monday, November 13, 2006. Mr. Griffin was in his 78th year. Predeceased by wife Mary Griffin; parents: James and Margaret Griffin; grand-daughter Holly Sutton. He leaves to mourn his loving family: sons: Leo (Brenda) Griffin, Lab City, Labrador, Loyola (Shirley) Griffin, Hubbards, NS, Paul (Muriel) Griffin, Tilton, NL, Don (Karen) Griffin, Carbonear, Ken (Karen) Griffin, Carbonear; daughters: Margaret (Arthur) Penney, Salmon Cove, Marie (Wayne) Sutton, Victoria, NL and Debbie (Clyde) Sutton, Victoria, NL; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and companion Myrtle Reynolds; a large circle of relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass took place on Thursday, November 16, 2006 from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, and Cemetery, Carbonear. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are gratefully accepted. HEDGES, Elizabeth - Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear on Friday, November 10, 2006 Elizabeth Hedges of Carbonear, age 97 years. Predeceased by husband: G. Eldred, 1980. HISCOCK, Marion (Andrews) - Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Nursing Home, Carbonear, Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, Marion Hiscock (Andrews) of Winterton, age 87 years. Predeceased by her husband: Fred in 1993 and grandson Glenn in 1987. Left to mourn with precious memories: son Stan (Rose); daughter Margaret (Clarence); son Wilson (Ann); daughter Eileen (Melvin); 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; brother Allan (Effie); many nieces and nephews and a large circle of friends, including all her caregivers at the Interfaith Home. Resting at Green's Funeral Home, Winterton. The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27 from Trinity United Church, Winterton. MENCHIONS, Frances J. - Passed peacefully away at her late residence on Saturday, November 18, 2006, Frances J. Menchions of Bishop's Cove, aged 90 years. Predeceased by husband William, 1989; son Gordon, 1997 and son Selby in infancy. Left to mourn, three sons: John, Don, David (Irene); grandsons Darryl and Rodney Menchions all of Bishop's Cove; daughter-in-law Shirley Menchions and granddaughter April of Upper Island Cove; sister Mary Sweetland, Harbour Grace; step sister Alice (Bill) Adams, Oakville, ON; step brothers: Walter (Ettie) Lynch, Brampton, ON, Selby Lynch, Upper Island Cove; also a large number of other relatives and friends. PERCEY, Nathan - Passed peacefully away at Letterston South Wales, UK on November 2, 2006, Nathan Percey formerly of Brigus, NL in his 86th year. Veteran Royal Navy, World War II, mentioned in dispatches. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Annie of 65 years; three sons: John (Maureen), Malcolm (Alison) and Gerald (Liz); two daughters: Barbara (Dyfrig) Lewis and Shirley (DI.) Thomas and their families; two brothers: Cyril and Jim and families, Brigus, NL.

ROONEY, David Richard (Dave) - August 13, 1937 - November 9, 2006 of St. John's and Lower Island Cove in the presence of his wife and son while being held in a circle of love, Dave passed over. From 1972 - 1984, he served as Member of Parliament for the former riding of Bonavista-Trinity-Conception, which always remained a special place for him. This was especially true for the North Shore, his birthplace. Predeceased by parents Alexander and Ethel (Garland) Rooney and sister Jennifer Kitchen. Left to celebrate his life, love, appreciation of music and sense of humor are his wife, partner and best friend Ruth, and his son and fishing buddy David. Dave will also be remembered by his sister Carolyn (Maj. Barry Cockerline, Ret'd), Belleville, ON; brothers: John (Shirley) and Jim (Maxine); brother-in-law Dr. Hubert Kitchen, all residing in St. John's; also, several nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of other relatives, friends, and former colleagues throughout Newfoundland and Labrador and across Canada. Rested at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave. Funeral service was held from Barrett's Chapel on Tuesday, November 14, 2006. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. SLADE, Frances Gertrude - Passed away suddenly at the Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, November 26, 2006. Frances Gertrude Slade of Carbon ear age 87 years. Predeceased by her parents John and Bridgette (McCarthy) Murphy; sister Bernadette Murphy; brothers: John and Maurice Murphy; six infant children; granddaughter Deborah Frances Squibb; great-granddaughter Levine Mary Baker and grandson-in-law Arnold Trotter. She leaves to mourn her loving family: daughters: Mary St. George (Fred), Bride Squibb (Leo), both of Carbonear; sons: Jim Slade (Livy), Edward Slade (Mary), both of Carbon ear and Brian Slade (Lynn) of Brampton, ON; loving sister and best friend Margaret King, Carbonear; special friend Peter Griffin, Carbonear; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter Alyssa Gallant, Fort St. John, BC; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. The Funeral Mass took place on Wednesday, November 29, 2006 from St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Carbonear.
