BATTEN, Elsa Rose [nee Keefe] KING, MARIA (WHALEN) - Maria ( Whalen) King, age 92 of Everett, MA U.S.A. retired nurse's aide, having worked at the Whidden Memorial Hospital for 35 years, passed away on Thursday June 9th after a brief illness. She was 92 years old. Wife of the late Clifford "Cliff " King. Beloved mother of Carl King and Iris Ulm, both of Everett. Formerly from Bauline and Broad Cove, Conception Bay, Newfoundland, she is the daughter of the late William J. and Florence (Butt) Whalen. Dear sister of Louisa Delaney of Newfoundland and the late Herbert Whalen, Ormond Whalen, Myrtle Fraser, Madeline Bulger and Bernadette Whalen. Aunt of Florence Fraser of Everett. Also lovingly survived by three grandchildren, Wayne Ulm of ME, Dawn Ulm of VA, Deborah Doria of PA, three great-grandchildren, Briana Ulm of Everett, Adrian Ulm of VA, Chris Kirmes of Everett, two step greatgrandchildren, Anthony and Nichols Doria of PA and many nieces and nephews in Newfoundland. Maria attended schools in Newfoundland before coming to the United States in 1956. She settled in Everett 52 years ago, where she raised her family. Maria enjoyed going home to Newfoundland every summer since 1962. She was an active member of the Sea Breeze Senior Club in Newfoundland during her summers there. Maria has been coming home to Newfoundland every summer since 1962 and made her last trip in September 2010. Funeral services were held on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at the William R. Carafa & Son Funeral Home in Chelsea, MA. Interment will be at a later date in the United Church Cemetery at Broad Cove, Newfoundland. For those who wish, donations in Maria's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. PELLEY, Edward B. - Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, Edward B. Pelley of Carbonear, age 84 years. Predeceased by: wife: Dora; sisters: Sophie and Rose; brothers: Arthur, William, Silas, Malcolm and Frank. "MOLLIE" - Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizen's Home, Carbonear on Thursday, June 9, 2011, Elizabeth M. "Mollie" Pottle of Job's Cove, age 96 years. Predeceased by her husband Frederick E. Rowe (1989), sister Minnie Morris and three brothers Clifford, Melvin, and Hubert Davis. He was born in Newfoundland, Canada to Leamon and Clara Traverse. In 1965, he relocated his family to the United States where he worked as a telecommunications manager for Western Union International. He retired from Western Union, now MCI, in 1981 but continued to work for another 19 years. Retiring in 2000 from TRT, he was finally able to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes - golf. Kenneth enjoyed watching sports of all types, particularly hockey, golf and baseball. He knew every player and could recall specific details of every play dating back to his childhood. He had an expansive memory and loved to read, do crossword puzzles and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. A beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle, he will be deeply missed by his wife of 56 years, Eulah Traverse; children, Debi Traverse of Chesapeake City, MD, Suzanne Reno of Milford, NJ, Timothy Traverse of Deer Lake, Newfoundland and Heather Patricco and her husband, Kenneth, of Middletown, DE; grandchildren, Jessica Walsh, Megan and Abbie Reno, and Emma, Daniel and Shelby Patricco, as well a three brothers, one sister and a host of other friends and family. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 15, at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home LLC. Interment will be private. Predeceased by husband John, son Israel and grandson David, sisters; Mabel Sheppard, Edith Sheppard and Myrtle Tucker, brothers; Lewis Smith and Israel Smith.
