BABB, Estelle Vera Elizabeth (nee Pike)

It is with profound sadness that the family of Estelle Babb announces the passing of a beloved wife, mother and grandmother while in the loving arms of her family at her residence in Harbour Grace on July 22, 2012. Predeceased by her parents Mortimer and Annie (Moores) Pike, sister: Louise Garner and brother: Clifford. Estelle leaves to mourn her husband of 62 years, Lorenzo, children: Sharon Babb, Harbour Grace, Gail (Tom) Lynch, Mount Pearl, John (Genevieve), Carbonear and Joanne (Glenn) Dwyer, Lower Sackville, NS; grandchildren, Meghan (John) Mills, Campbell River, BC, Victoria and Luke Penney, Harbour Grace, Deirdre Lynch, Calgary, AB, Ian (Nicole) Lynch, St. John's, Andrew and Jessica Babb, Carbonear, Emily and Anna Dwyer, Lower Sackville, NS; great-grandsons, Ian and Alex Mills, Campbell River, BC and Cole Penney, Harbour Grace. Also left to mourn, a large circle of other family members, dear friends and a loyal group of lifelong companions, affectionately known as "The Big Six", Georgianna Slade (deceased), Maxine Taylor (deceased), Lillian Babb, Kathleen Parsons and Shirley Sharpe. Estelle was a lifelong volunteer. She was an honorary, life member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Health Care Auxiliaries, member of the Carbonear General Hospital Auxiliary, volunteer with the Girl Guides of Canada, St. Paul's Anglican Church, Harbour Grace and an inductee into the Harbour Grace Sports Hall of Fame. Above everything else, she was a devoted, loving mother, giving tremendous support to all her children's endeavors. She will always be endeared in our hearts as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, community volunteer, friend and a caring generous soul to those less fortunate. Estelle's home was always a welcoming and warm haven to all. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Chris Peddle for his exceptional care. "Thank you" is also extended to the dedicated caregivers who helped fulfill Estelle's wishes for her final days. Archdeacon John Dinn conducted the Funeral service on Wednesday, July 25 from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Harbour Grace. A private family inurnment at St. Paul's Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Grace. Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, Catherine 'Katie' Clarke of Carbonear, age 80 years. Predeceased by infant daughter: Holly; parents: John and Dinah Skeard; seven brothers and three sisters. Left to mourn, husband: John S.; three daughters: Gloria (Keith), Carbonear, June, Edmonton, AB and Catherine (Darrell), Carbonear; one son: John N. (Gertie), Carbonear; seven grandchildren: Mark (Judy), Holly (Michael), Jennifer, Mitchell, Nicole, Matthew and Michael; one great-grandchild: Max; one sister: Rhoda Laforme, Mississauga, ON; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at his residence on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, Patrick J. Layman Sr. of Ochre Pit Cove, age 74 years. Predeceased by son: Patrick James Jr.; parents: Mike Joe and Angela; brother: Paul. Pat was a well known fisherman on the Avalon Peninsula, retired Police Officer, member of the Newfoundland Constabulary, member of the Brandon Police Force, involved in Politics all his life, member of the Military Police, good neighbor and friend to all. Left to mourn, wife: June of 54 years; three sons: John (Michelle), Old Perlican, Dan (Trina), Woodstock, ON and Bruce (Jen), Ochre Pit Cove; one daughter: Patricia (Mike) Cavasin, Alberta; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister: Mary (Jim) Babstock, Scarborough, ON; five brothers: Peter (Betty), Ochre Pit Cove, Mike (Yvonne), St. John's, Ted (Claire) and Joe (Marie), both of Gull Island and Ron (Ellen), Cambridge, ON; brother-in-law: Ray (Joan) Park, ON; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. , age 75, passed away July 9, 2012, in Carbonear Hospital after battling cancer. He is survived by his wife, Anita Joan (Osmond), children: Karen (Craig Gosse); Paula (Gord Hynes); Tina (Emmanuel Jones), David (Sharon Anthony); and Denise (Cory Fradsham), 10 grandchildren, a special aunt and uncle, William and Mabel Bickford, brothers and sister and their families in Ontario and British Columbia, and a wide range of family and friends in Mahers, Bell Island, Bay Roberts, and Florida. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be for immediate family.

PYE, Wesley

Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion on July 4, 2012, Wesley Pye, aged 87 years, Merchant Marine. Leaving to mourn son, David (Teresa); grandsons: Nicholas and Aaron; sister, Jean Brown as well as nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. At Wesley's request, cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion for the care and compassion shown to Wesley during his stay there.
