BARRETT, William Thomas - Passed peacefully away enroute to Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday, July 11, 2010. William Thomas Barrett of Spaniard's Bay aged 88 years. Predeceased by sisters; Janet, Joyce. and Emily, brothers; Isaac and Isaac Edward. Left with fond and loving memories, his wife Jacqueline Alice Barrett (Compagnon) of 60 years; daughter Linda (Art); sons: Bill (Shirley), Jack (Christina), and Robert; Seven grandchild and three great grandchildren; sisters; Lydia Gosse (Ontario) and Jean Froude (Ontario); brother Walter (Grand Falls). and a large circle of family and friends. Rested at Young's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay. Funeral service took place on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at the Anglican Church with interment at United Cemetery Spaniard's Bay. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for the staff of Collingwood Downs of Clarke's Beach who provided stellar care and support for William Barrett in his final months. Donations in his memory may be made to Coughlan United Church Harbour Grace or a charity of one's choice.

BURSEY, Sandy - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, July 15, 2010, Sandy Bursey of Burnt Point, age 77 years. Predeceased by wife: Alma Joyce; brother: Edison James; sister: Stella Warfield; step-son: Frank Drodge. Left to mourn, one brother: Lorenzo (Nellie), Burnt Point; step-daughters: Nola (Randy) Field, Mount Pearl, Wanda Drodge and Gail Drodge, both of St. John's; step-son: Darrell (Wanda) Drodge, Mount Pearl; step-daughter-in-law: Charmaine Drodge, St. John's; step-grandchildren; also a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Rev. Roscoe Cole conducted the funeral service on Sunday, July 18 at Memorial United Church, Burnt Point. Inurnment took place on Tuesday, July 20 at the United Cemetery, Burnt Point. BUTLER, Thomas - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, July 6, 2010, Thomas Butler of Bristol's Hope, age 75 years. Predeceased by his parents: Thomas & Sadie; brother: Jim and sister-in-law: Carol Anne 'Kay'. Left to mourn, two brothers: Patrick (Dorothy) and Richard, both of Carbonear; nieces and nephews: Bernadette (Scott), Harbour Grace, Jim (Sharon), Brian (Stacy), and Chris (Sherry), all of Bristol's Hope, Kayla (Adam), Lori (Justin), Joanne (Jeff), Michael (Shelly), all of Carbonear; close friends: Darroch Vokey, Carbonear, Walter Welsh, Harbour Grace, Pat McCormick, St. John's and Anne Moriarty and family, Harbour Grace; also a large number of other family and friends. COLLINS, Gerard - Passed peacefully away at his residence, Harbour Grace on Saturday, July 10, 2010, Gerard Collins, age 53 years. Predeceased by parents: Bernard and Eleanor. Left to mourn: two brothers: Aiden (Paulette), Carbonear, and Paul (Debbie), Harbour Grace: four sisters: Bernice (Donald) Dawe, Catherine (Dennis) King and Deidre (Wade) Hynes, all of Halifax. NS, and Paulette (Bill) Pilgrim, Goose Bay; nieces: Cindy, Tiffany, Krista, Alyson, Jennifer, Sarah and Mary; nephews: Christopher, Bernie, Ian, Neal and Liam; caregivers: Paulette and Maxine; very special friends: Clifford Kennedy and Shirley Barnes, also a large number of other relatives and friends. COOMBS, Terrance - of Carbonear, who passed away peacefully at the Carbonear General Hospital, Friday, July 30, 2010. Mr. Coombs was 82 years old. He leaves to mourn his loving family; special cousins Georgina and Rodney Parsons and Daphne and Richard Parsons; cousins William and Catherine Coombs and Gerald and Betty Coombs; home care worker Patsy Dunphy, and other family members, relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents John and Anastasia; brothers and sisters Cyril, Arthur, Ann and Lena; and Uncle Thomas and Aunt Hanora Coombs. The funeral mass took place at Sacred Heart Church and Cemetery, Heart's Desire, on Monday, Aug. 2, 2010 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Terrance Coombs Memorial Fund. CRANE, Kathleen - Passed away after a lengthy illness at the HarbourLodge Nursing Home in Carbonear on July 22, 2010., Kathleen C. Crane of Upper Island Cove in her 63 year. She is predeceased by her husband: Walter; parents: Anthony nd Susie Galway andher birth mother: Margaret Dobbin. Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Judy (Cam), Edmonton, AB, Linda (Paul) Carbonear, NL, Clayton (Carolyn) Edmonton, AB; brothers: Anthony, Reg, Brendon, Hayward, Andrew, Johnny; three grandchildren: JohnRoss, Brooke, Aiden and a large circle of friends and relatives. The funeral service took place on July 24, 2010 at 11:00 am from St. Peters Anglican Church In Upper Island Cove followed by interment at the Anglican cemetery, Upper Island Cove. In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the family.

MERCER. James W: - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital in Carbonear or Friday, July 30, 2010, Mr. James W. Mercer of Upper Island Cove in his 83 year. He is predeceased by his parents Arch and Edna, sisters Mary, Doris, Annie and bother Nathaniel, parents-in-law Herb and May Pynn. Left with fond and loving memories are his wife Rose of 49 years, Daughters: Diane (Jack Cleary) River Head, Harbour Grace, Brenda (Danny) Crane) River Head, Harbour Grace, Son Barry of Upper Island Cove. Six grandchildren, Barry, Brent, Steven, Adam, Vaniessa and Caitlyn. One great granddaughter Brooke and a large circle of friends and relatives. The funeral service took place on Tuesday August 3, 2010 at St. Peters Anglican Church in Upper Island Cove, interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery Upper Island Cove.

MURPHY, David - Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family and friends at the Carbonear General Hospital on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, David Murphy of Carbonear, 61 years. Predeceased by parents: William and Margaret: step-father: William Kennedy; brother; Bernard; sister-in-law; Patricia Murphy; special friend; Edwand Saunders. Leaving to mourn, wife: Donna; three daughters: Margaret (Garry) Martell, Halifax, NS. Lisa (Les) Murphy, Aylesford, NS and Amanda (Lyndon) Pike, Carbonear: six grandchildren; Colton, Spencer, Kaitiyn, Jordan, Brittany and Dylan: two brothers; William Murphy, Carbonear and Gerard (Shirley) Murphy, Salmon Cove; one sister; Gloria Kennedy, St. John's; as well as his special friends of Bill W.; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Left to mourn husband:James; three daughters: Donna Power and Mona Power, both of Toronto, ON, and Sharon (Gerald) Budden, Sop's Arm; four sons: Bruce (Anastatia) and Barry (Jenny), both of Toronto, ON, Chris (Dianne), Corner Brook, and Wayne (Winnie), Bay de Verde; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Joe (Irene) Power, Clarke's Beach, and Ben (Anne) Power, Toronto, ON; three sisters: Lillian McCarthy, Toronto, ON, Marie (Anthony) Pinsent, Bellevue, Trinity Bay, and Theresa (Will) Power, Lower Island Cove; also a large number of other relatives and friends. SALTMAN, Kenneth Dr. - Passed peacefully away at home at the age of 84 on Sunday, July 4, 2010 in the loving presence of his family. Left with fond memories are his wife: Peggy; sons: William, David and Peter; daughter: Jane; sisters: Irene and Rea; grandchildren: Jennifer, Ben, Evan, Angela and Michael; along with a large number of friends. Kenneth was born in Ebbw Vale, Wales, on October 18, 1925 but moved at an early age to Edinburgh where he attended the Royal High School, and later the University of Edinburgh where he received his medical degree in 1947. One of his first jobs was as a ship's doctor aboard a whaling supply vessell out of Port of Leith. Ken travelled the long voyage back and forth to the company's base in the Antarctic on the island of South Georgia before taking up a position with Cable and Wireless on transoceanic cable repair ships, working in the North Atlantic and off the coast of Africa. It was a chance conversation with a radio operator in Aden, Yemen that eventually led to Ken and Peggy immigrating to Newfoundland in 1954. They initially settled in Adam's Cove but in the late 1950's moved to Harbour Grace, where they have lived for many years. Ken provided medical, obstetrical and anesthesia services to the people of Trinity Bay and Conception Bay North for over 40 years but always found time for his family. He was a talented artist, donating many of his works to the Hospital Auxiliary fundraisers and aid reader and a prolific gardener. At Kenneth's request a cremation has taken place. A gathering for the celebration of Ken's life is to be annnounccd. A special thanks to the staff of the Carbonear General Hospital for their compassion and care, Dr. LeFeuvre and Dr. Gerry Power for all their help and kindness. In loving memory of Dr. Saltman donations may be made to the Salvation Army or to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Hr. Grace. Seymour of Harbour Grace, age 80 years. Former CN Employee. Predeceased by parents Robert and Elizabeth; brothers Solomon and Bert; sister Violet and infant baby sister Dot. Left to mourn his loving wife of 45 years, Maxine; daughter Laura (Lamonte) Stagg of Bareneed; son Robert (Glenda) of Coley's Point; two precious grandchildren: Megan and Aaron; two sisters: Freda Mercer, Harbour Grace and Mary (Jack) Mercer, Spaniard's Bay: sisters-in-law: Charlotte Seymour and Jessie Seymour, both of St. John's; special friend: sister Rosaline Hynes; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Rested Noel's Funeral Home, Harvey Street, Harbour Grace. Rev. Shirley Noseworthy conducted the funeral service on Monday, Aug. 2 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Harbour Grace. SMITH, Mary Lillian - After an extended decline in health, but not in Spirit! Mary Lillian Smith (nee Andrews) passed away peacefully in Burlington, Ontario on July 9th, 2010 at the age of 93. Born in Port-de-Grave, Newfoundland in 1916 and predeceased by her husband Clarence, son Roy and brothers George and Edgar Andrews. Lil or Aunt Lil (as she was known by her family and friends) will be missed by her son Melvin, grandsons Geoffrey & Jeremy and daughter-in-law Brenda, as well as her nieces and nephews: Mary, Ethel, Rosalyn, Karen, Charlotte, Gerald and David as well as her extended family and friends. Lil will be missed by all who knew and loved her feisty spirit and big laugh! Interment will take place in Port-de-Grave at a later date. Her many memorable stories of her life in Newfoundland and Labrador will be forever cherished by her family
