Gerry moved to Vermont in 1942 to work on a farm in Jeffersonville owned by Milo and Nettie Porter. This farm most would know as the "1829 House". This is where he met and married the farmer's daughter, Marion Porter, on September 9, 1962. Gerry and Marion dairy farmed for a number of years before selling the farm and building their home on the hill on Route 15 in Jeffersonville. Crystal and Gerry loved to travel to Newfoundland and attended Fryeburg Fair on a regular basis. Gerry was very close to Crystal's siblings and her three children who continued to visit Gerry after their mother's death on April 7, 2007.
Following this time, Gerry remained at his home until he required some day-to-day help. He then moved to Hyde Park and was cared for by his stepdaughters and step granddaughters. Gerry had a wonderful sense of humor and was always singing a little "ditty".
