BURDEN, George Gilbert

Passed peacefully away after a brief battle with cancer in Red Deer, AB, on Dec 31st, 2014, George Gilbert Burden, formerly of Carbonear, in his 81st year. Predeceased by his first wife Betty (Sainsbury) and second wife Carrie (Banfield), his parents James and Elizabeth Burden, his mother Doris Burden King, sister Elizabeth Kelsey, and brother Calvin Powell. Leaving to mourn: devoted partner Barbara Hawthorne and her three adult children. Children Donna (Patrick) Schlachter, Denver, CO; Karen (John) Comerford, Carbonear, NL; Linda (John) Boland, Cambridge, ON; Paul (Tina) Mississauga, ON; and David (Margie) Red Deer, AB; grandchildren, Adam (Holly), Andrew (Cayla), Makayla, Alex, Mathew, Danielle, Elizabeth, and James: 2 Granddaughters and 9 Great grandchildren in the US. Brother Bert (Paula) Powell, Cambodia; sisters Sheila (Gordon) Anderson, Hantsport, NS; and Marilyn (Ralph) Montgomery, Halifax, NS. Also a large circle of other family and friends. George was a long-time member of the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland and Labrador (AETTNL), the Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA), and the Masonic Lodge. He made a huge impact on his family and his community through his various affiliations including as a Master Locksmith, a Pinkerton Agent, and a local businessman. Cremation has taken place and private family inurnments will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers. donations can be made to Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Ave., Red Deer, AB, T4R 3S6

CLARKE, Martha Marie (nee Wells)

Born: July 8th, 1949
Passed in: Red Deer, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: December 25th, 2014

Passed peacefully away December 25, 2014 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital in Red Deer, Alberta, Martha Marie Clarke (nee Wells). Born July 8, 1949 in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Martha is predeceased by her husband Andrew, her parents Alice and Wallace Wells, and sisters Mary (Brendan) Clarke, and Doreen Langer. She leaves to mourn her son Andrew (Patricia), her daughter Julie, and granddaughter Darrah; sisters Madonna (Gord) Tulk, Hilda (Joe) Tobin, Alice (Eric) Bridger, Sandra, Inez, and Brother David (Joan) Wells; many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Martha lived in Heart's Desire, NL. for 35 years, and was employed by Green's Sea Foods in Winterton for much of that time. She will be lovingly remembered by a large circle of friends. Interment will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Heart's Desire, at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to The Canadian Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.

EARLE, Elizabeth Dawe

We are saddened to announce the passing of Elizabeth Dawe Earle formerly of Bay Roberts, NL. She was the wife of the late Captain Guy Earle, of Carbonear. She passed away suddenly while sleeping, in Montreal, on Christmas Eve. Born on Sept 12th, 1926, she lived an interesting and exciting life. She loved to travel with her daughter, and lived many years in her favorite city, New York. She returned home to St John's in her later years, only to return to Montreal on December 13, 2014. Montreal is where God came for her. She is predeceased by parents Edward and Naomi Dawe, her brother Victor, sister Patricia Lemon and twin Irene Williamson. Left to mourn, her daughter, Elizabeth Earle DePiero and son-in-law, Brian M. DePiero. Special cousins Eric Dawe, Ruth Dawe (husband Pat Flynn) Maxine Dawe Rombout, Christopher Pratt as well as other cousins, nieces and family members. Special friends mourn also, Maureen, Iwona and Dianna. May she rest in peace and feel the warmth of God's hands. I miss you Mom. Funeral service will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church, Coley's Point at 11a.m, Saturday Jan 3, 2014. Resting at Moores Funeral Home, Bay Roberts from 2-5 and 7-9. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the SPCA.

HURLEY, John Joseph

Passed peacefully away in the presence of his loving family at the Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, John Joseph Hurley of Kingston, age 83 years. Predeceased by wife: Elizabeth 'Betty'; parents: Frank and Sarah; sisters: Margaret (William) Merrigan and Mary Hurley. Left to mourn, one daughter: Mary (JR) Fagan, Carbonear; one son: Philip (Susan), Carbonear; three grandchildren: Sarah, Emma and Noah; three brothers: Edmund and Frankie, both of Kingston and Mike (Alverna), Buchans; four sisters: Cecily, Loretta and Alice, all of Kingston and Julie (Pat) Doyle, Gull Island; brothers-in-law: Dan (Patsy) Delaney and Joe (Bev) Delaney, both of Gull Island, Francis (Maisie) Delaney and Phil Delaney, both of Carbonear and Cyril Delaney, Ontario; sister-in-law: Christine (Harvey) Button, Old Perlican and little buddy: Skip; also a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Rested at Noel's Funeral Home, Carbonear. Fr. Michael Barker conducted the Funeral Mass on Saturday, December 20 from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kingston. HUTCHINGS, Mary E.

Passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Carbonear General Hospital, Mrs. Mary E. Hutchings of Tilton (recently resided at the Bay Roberts Retirement Centre), aged 82 years. Predeceased by her husband Leonard, parents Annie and Norman Pike, and brothers Bill (Mildred) and David (Doris) Pike. Left to mourn are her daughter Marlene (Wayne Woodford), sons Don (Mary) and Reg (Marilyn), grandsons John (Courtney) and Jamie Tobin, granddaughters Kelly Hutchings and McKenzie Hutchings, great-granddaughter Bridget Tobin, sister and brother-in-law May and Selby Hutchings, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Lynch's Funeral Home, Spaniard's Bay. Visitation was Sunday, December 7 from 2- 5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral took place from Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Spaniard's Bay on Monday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation and inurnment have taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

SHEPPARD, Carmella Elizabeth

Passed peacefully away surrounded by family and friends at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, December 4, 2014, Carmella Elizabeth Sheppard of Broad Cove; formerly of Goose Bay, age 64 years. Predeceased by father: Harold Hutchings and brother: Fred. Left to mourn, husband: Richard; three sons: Bryan (Gillian) Hutchings, Tyrone (Christine) Blake and Darrell Blake; five grandchildren: Curtis, Cody, Cruise, Delphinia and Ocean; great-grandson: Julian; step-daughter: Laurie (Keith) King; three step-grandchildren: Cody, Jessica and Kelsey; mother: Dora Hutchings; three sisters: Janet, Debbie and Rose (Mike); eight brothers: John (Shirley), Thomas, Robert (Sharon), Perry, Tony, Paul, William and Keith (Katherine); sister-in-law: Mary; special friend: Marilyn Cassell; also a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. STOCKWOOD, Mary Blanche

Passed away peacefully at the age of 101 at the Interfaith Long-term care Home in Carbonear on December 22nd, 2014, Mary Blanche Stockwood of Gull Island. Predeceased by her loving husband Gideon, and son Robert. Blanche was a devoted homemaker and an avid gardener of flowers and vegetables. She was a faithful church goer who played church organ for over 50 years. She was the rock of the family and assisted our Dad by working beside him in the fishery. She was told many times that she could salt fish better than any man in Gull Island! We'll miss her deeply. Left to mourn, sons, Leslie (Shirley), Ray (Beverly), Harold (Rose-Marie), daughters Jean Mansbridge (Jim-deceased), Marie Whalen (Boyd), Carol Villemaire (Yves); grandchildren Gary, Terry, Gail, Kim, Bonnie, Blaine, Brad, Melissa, Marc and Natalie; 17 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by infant daughter: Linda; parents: Reuben and Carrie Squibb; sisters: Mildred and Linda.
