BUTT, John A. - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, John A Butt of Carbonear, age 87 years. Predeceased by wife: Miriam P. 'Minnie'; son: Harold; daughter: Karen; sons-in-law: Maurice Curran and John Carpenter; sisters: Florence, Margaret, Annie and Jean; brother: Edward. Left to mourn: five daughters: Annie Curran, Carbonear, Marion (Donald) Sheppard, Spaniard's Bay; Shirley (Cyril) Griffin and Myrtle Carpenter, both of Carbonear and Gail Spracklin, Shearstown; five sons: John (Ann Reardon), St. John's, Graham (Shirley) and Leslie (Diane), both of Carbonear, Cyril (Sherri), St. John's and Gary (Carol), Carbonear; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; six brothers: Steve (Gertrude) and Harold, both of St. John's, Jerry, Vermont, USA, Les (Myrtle), Gander, Bill (Pauline), Corner Brook and Graham (Joan), New Harbour; one sister: Gladys (Ron) Osbourne, Stephenville; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Rev. Morley Boutcher conducted the funeral service on Saturday, December 6 at St. James Anglican Church, Carbonear. Interment took place in the interfaith Cemetery, Carbonear. Donations in his memory may be made to the Interfaith Cemetery Fund, Carbonear. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Noel's Funeral Home, Carbonear. CHIPMAN, Violet - Passed away at the Carbonear General Hospital in Carbonear on December 2, 2008. Violet Chipman of Coley's Point (formally from Spaniard's Bay, age 91 years. Predeceased by parent's: John Holmes and Mary Smith (nee Newel); husband: Albert Chipman; brothers: John (Elizabeth) Smith; Azariah (Daphne), James (Sarah), Joseph (Violet), Jesse (Fannie); sister: Annie (George) Crane. Left with fond and loving memories are daughters: Shirley (Gerald) Snow, Coley's Point, Mary (Wallace) Clarke, Spaniard's Bay; son: Levi (Gwen) Chipman, Spaniard's Bay; 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Young's Funeral Home in Spaniard's Bay. The funeral service took place on Thursday, December 4, at Holy Redeemer Church with interment to follow at Maul Tree Hill Cemetery, Spaniard's Bay. In her memory flowers accepted or donations may be made to the Janeway Children's Hospital.

DOBBIN, Dennis James - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital in Carbonear on December 15, 2008. Dennis Dobbin of Upper Island Cove, age 82 years. Predeceased by parents: Vincent and Mary Dobbin of Upper Island Cove; brother: Reginald Dobbin, Upper Island Cove; sister: Kathleen Parsons, Harbour Grace; daughter: Mary McCarthy, Harbour Grace; granddaughter: Tina Janes, Spaniard's Bay. Left with fond and loving memories Wife: Irene Dobbin of 64 years; daughters: Irene (John) Drover, Spaniard's Bay, Shirley (Ernest) Clarke, Bishop's Cove, Florence Janes, Spaniard's Bay, Margaret (Randolph) Clarke, Bishop's Cove; sons: Wade Dobbin, Upper Island Cove, Dennis Dobbin, Upper Island Cove; brother: William John Dobbin, Upper Island Cove; 14 Grandchildren and 21 Great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Resting at Hussey's Funeral Home in Upper Island Cove. The funeral Service was held on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m., at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Spaniard's Bay with interment to follow at Roman Catholic Cemetery, Upper Island Cove. In his memory flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

GREELEY, Mr. Leslie Maxwell - Passed peacefully away at the Pentecostal Senior Citizens Home on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, Mr. Leslie Maxwell Greeley, aged 76 years, of Spaniard's Bay. Predeceased by his parents: William and Laura {nee Atkins) Greeley; brother: Richard (deceased in infancy); brother-in-law: George Seymour. Leaving to mourn: 2 sisters: Ena (George - deceased) Seymour, Elizabeth "Lizzie" (James) Seymour; 1 brother: James "Jim" (Melina) Greeley, residing in Toronto; also nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. Reverend Marilyn Moore conducted the funeral service at Holy Redeemer Anglican Church, Spaniard's Bay on Tuesday, December 30 2008. Inurnment was at The Anglican Cemetery, Tilton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Moore's Funeral Home, Bay Roberts.

GREEN, Wm. Lawrence - Passed peacefully away at the Harbour Lodge Nursing Home, Carbonear on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, Wm. Lawrence Green of Carbonear; formerly of Hant's Harbour, age 93 years. Predeceased by brothers: Harold, Walter, Gordon and Raymond; sister: Lillian. Left to mourn, wife: Lillian Barbara; one brother: Melvin (Eleanor), Hant's Harbour; one sister: Ethel Green, Hant's Harbour; also a number of other relatives and friends. Captain Leigh and Major Vida Ryan conducted the funeral service on Friday; January 2 at the Salvation Army Citadel, Winterton. Interment was in the Salvation Army Cemetery, Hant's Harbour. Predeceased by parents: Nicholas and Mary (Finn) Kennedy; brothers: Jack, Billy and Jim; sisters: Gertrude and Genevieve. Left to mourn, nieces: Gertie Connolly, Margie Connolly, Ellen Connolly and Ellen Kennedy; nephews: Daniel Connolly, Nicholas Connolly, Jerry Connolly and Ed Connolly and other relatives and friends. Monsignor E. T Bromley conducted the funeral mass on Saturday, December 27 at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church and Cemetery, Carbonear. Leaving to mourn wife Barbara (nee Quinton); brother Hollis, St. John's; sister Marjorie Swain, Happy Valley-Goose Bay; nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. Retired civil servant (Dept. Of Forestry), 51 year member of the Masonic Order and Past Master Clarenville Lodge, Past President Clarenville Shrine Club, Past Grand Junior Deacon, Masonic Grand Lodge of Newfoundland, Past Noble Grand and Past District Deputy President of Caribou Lodge #148 of the Independent Order of Oddfellows and former member of Canadian Rangers. Rested at Fewer's Funeral Home, Clarenville. Funeral service held on Friday, December 12, 2008 from Memorial United Church, Clarenville.

PIKE, Tracey Lee - Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital in Carbonear on December 16, 2008. Tracey Lee Pike of Spaniard's Bay, age 32 years. Predeceased by grand-parents David and Doris Pike and grandmother Dorothy Peddle. Left with fond and loving memories parents: Ron & Elaine Pike of Spaniard's Bay; sisters: Karen and Jill of Spaniard's Bay; partner: Ian Chipman; grandfather: Az Peddle, Bishop's Cove; Uncles, Aunts, Cousins; Special friends: Naida, Rod, Edna, Ashley, Steven, Deanne, Brendan and Alex Chipman of Spaniard's Bay, and a large circle of relatives and friends. PYNN, Eric Frank - Passed peacefully away at his residence on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, Eric Frank Pynn of Harbour Grace, age 70 years. Predeceased by parents: John and Lillian; brothers: Clarence, Willard, Lloyd and Harold; sisters: Doris and Margaret; special friend: Gwen Caines. Left to mourn: two daughters: Erica Pynn Boha (Steven) and Lillian Catherwood, both of Nova Scotia; one son: Walter, Conception Bay South; six grandchildren: Lindsay, Nathan, Gina, Jehrod, Alexander and Zachary; two great grandchildren: Tyson and Callie; three sisters: Olive Abbott, Harbour Grace, Jean (Selby) Singleton, Tilton and Shirley Reinhardt, Carbonear; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents: George and Eva (Sparkes) Steele and brother-in-law: Robert Johnson. Lovingly remembered and saddened by his passing are his wife: Vema V. (Gillespie), two loving and much loved daughters: Elizabeth (David) Clark, Ottawa, ON and Virginia Steele, Carbonear; two grandsons: Steven Clark and Christopher Sweetland; survived by sister: Florence Johnson, Harbour Lodge, Carbonear; two nieces: Marie (Stan) Parsons, Bristol's Hope and Louise (Frank) Norris, Job's Cove; nephew: David (Roxanne) Johnson, Carbonear; special friends: Irving and Clara Wareham, Carbonear, Joe and Sharon Snooks, Victoria, Guy and Margaret Rose Penney; Topsail; kind neighbours: Don and Murley Gillespie, Carbonear; former colleagues and students especially those of the Salmon Cove area.
