WHELAN, Annie
THE COMPASS, 13 November 1969

COLLIERS - The little community of Colliers was saddened on August 8th to hear of the passing of one of the oldest and best respected citizens, Mrs. Annie Whelan. She was in her 85th year.
Truly her long lifetime of kindly deeds, genial companionship and patient resignation was a continual preparation for the eternal day to which our faith bids us all to direct our lives. As we make prayerful commemoration for a devoted mother, companion and friend, we feel that her rest is indeed in the dwelling of the saints and that is indeed everlasting. Annie Whelan spent her later years confined to her home by lengthy and painful illness. During those last long days that test the human spirit so exactingly, she never failed to impress and edify us by her great spirit of faith, her unselfish concern for others, and her innate sweetness of disposition that endeared her to everybody. To the very last she was truly the centre of the home. She continued to enter into their interests and concerns. To their joys, she brought an infectious gaity (sic); to their problems, motherly concern; and to their ills, delicate sympathy, the consoling glance and the ever cheerful word. She was always so much one with her family that it is not possible to gauge the degree of loss or the pain of separation, which her passing entailed.
She is survived by four sons: Samuel in Philadelphia; Timothy in New Mexico, John and George in Colliers; one daughter, Annie, also in Colliers, two brothers, Norman Kelly in Brooklyn, New York; Bernard Kelly, Camden, N.J., fourteen grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Her husband predeceased her three years ago.
To her grieving family we offer heartfelt sympathy in a loss we all know. May the love we have shared for her in life follow her, so that our prayers may help to lead her.
