Passed away suddenly at the Carbonear General Hospital on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, Mr. Badcock of Bay Roberts, 83 years old. He leaves to mourn his loving family: sons Rodney Badcock and Kenneth (Dawn) Badcock, daughter Laurie (Philip) Sharpe and Joanne Badcock, grandchildren Jordan Badcock, Melissa Badcock, Melanie Badcock, Courtney Sharpe and Holly Sharpe. Predeceased by: wife Annie Badcock, parents Ella and William Badcock, and brother Harold Badcock. The Funeral Service was on Saturday, August 31, 2013 from St. Matthew's Anglican Church and Cemetery, Bay Roberts. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mr. William Badcock Memorial Fund. BARTER, Ruby

BARTER, Ruby
-68, of Dartmouth passed away August 30, 2013 at home with her family by her side. Born in Bay de Verde, NL she was a daughter of the late William and Augusta (Blunden) Barter. Ruby's career began with three years in the Royal Canadian Navy, but she later followed her mother's footsteps with a long and rewarding career as a Registered Nurse. Following her graduation from Hammersmith Hospital in London, England she returned to Canada and worked as a staff nurse, until becoming the head nurse at the Dartmouth General Emergency Department. She went on to become the director of Nursing at the Highland View Hospital in Amherst, NS and Colchester Regional Hospital in Truro. A lifelong learner, Ruby later earned her master's degree in Health Services Administration from Dalhousie University and subsequently worked as a health care consultant in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick until her retirement. She loved good food and was an accomplished and adventurous cook. She enjoyed preparing wonderful meals for her family and friends at her home in Dartmouth and the cottage in Chester, where she and her husband George shared many happy times. She was always happy to provide nourishing, delicious "comfort food" to anyone who was ill, bereaved or otherwise needed a little cheering up. She also loved animals, especially her feline pets and strays who were pampered with lots of love. Ruby is survived by her sisters, Caroline (Lewis) Potter, Bay de Verde, NL, Catherine (George) Eddy, Sibley's Cove, NL and Gloria Barter (Dr. David Andrews), Oakfield, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews and a devoted circle of friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. George MacDonald; sisters, Anne Lockyer and Elsie Gourley. Cremation has taken place under the care of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS. There will be a private memorial service at a later date, according to Ruby's wishes. No flowers by request. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society for pancreatic cancer research. Passed away suddenly on August 13, 2013, Mrs. Mina Clarke in her 68th year, in Oshawa, Ontario, born in Newfoundland. Left to mourn are four daughters, three sons, four sisters: Jean (Gerald), Pickering Ontario, Myrtle, Carbonear, Darlene (Curtis), St. John's, Grace (Winterton), four brothers: Harry, St John's, Roy (Marie), Shearstown, Gus (Heather), Bay Roberts, Gerald, Bay Roberts, also a large family of nieces and nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place in Ontario.

Passed peacefully away at the Carbonear General Hospital on Thursday, August 29, 2013, Jessie E. Earle of Carbonear, age 95 years. Predeceased by husband: Ronald W.; sons: Dr. Hunter Earle and Gary Earle; special friend: Mildred Churchill. Left to mourn, two daughters: Ada (Jim) Penney and Janice (George) Penney, both of Carbonear; daughters-in-law: Elizabeth Earle, Mount Pearl and Marilyn (Jerry) Pasternak, USA; nine grandchildren: Craig, Grant, Janice, Susanne, Michelle, Christopher, Stephen, Brian and Trevor; nineteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law: Walter (Frances) Earle, Carbonear; sisters-in-law: Mary (George) Saunders, St. John's and Nina Garland, Harbour Grace; also a large number of other relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizens Home in Carbonear on Sunday, August 11, 2013 in her 99th year. Predeceased by her husband Hans, her daughter Christiane, her sister Anne and her brother Karl. Left to mourn her son-in-law John Joy and her close friends Doris and Ted Murphy, as well as a number of nieces and nephews in Germany and friends in Newfoundland. Special thanks to the staff at the Interfaith Citizens Home. Cremation has taken place. Rev. Brian Colbourne conducted the funeral service at Bethany United Church, Carbonear on Thursday, August 15. Passed peacefully away at the Interfaith Citizens Home, Carbonear on Friday, August 16, 2013, Winifred Maud Meadus (Scarles) of Grates Cove, age 90 years. She was born in Great Yarmouth, England on November 13, 1922 and arrived in Newfoundland in 1946 as a British War Bride. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil (Ronald) Meadus; her parents, Annie and William Scarles; one sister Annie; one brother William and special daughter-in-law Marilyn. Left to mourn with beautiful memories that they will cherish forever are her nine children Pat (Bill Savage), Bob (Linda), Melvin (Cheryl), Bill (Lynne), Cec (Heather), Valerie (Duncan Avery), Pamela (Larry Hatch), Barry (Ellie) and Paul (Daniela); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her dearest friend Dorothy Meadus, as well as other family and friends. Predeceased by parents: George and Eliza Ann Mercer; husbands: Malcolm Ralph and Raymond Ralph; sisters: Helen (Graham) French, Elizabeth (William) Norman; brothers: George (Olive), Walter (Alfreda), James (Mabel); step-daughter: Ruby Bowering. Leaving to mourn: son William (Muriel) Ralph, stepsons: Calvin (Gwen), Charles (Sandra), Lorne (Linda), daughter : Frances Ann (Raymond) Petten, stepdaughter Violet(Philip George) Peckham, son-in-law Herber Bowering, 26 grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband: Herbert C; brothers: Augustus and Roland; sisters: Grace, Neta and Constance; three infant siblings; brothers-in-law: Ralph, Chesley, Thomas and John; sisters-in-law: Gertrude, Cecily, Ascenith, Lillian and Mildred.
