BROWN, Adah Doris - Passes peacefully away at the Carmelite House, Grand Falls-Windsor, on Sunday, June 1, 1997, aged 92 years. Predeceased by her husband Ernest Brown and son Robert. Leaving to mourn loving daughters: Blanche (Brownie Peet), Cynthia (Robin Jones); much loved grandchildren: Chris, Karl, Cathy, Bev, Ken, Peter, Ron, Kim and Darren; great-grandchildren: Sean, Jared, and Heather; a number of sisters, nieces and nephews in the United States. BROWN, Alice Mary (nee Butler) - Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, St. Clare's Mercy Hospital on November 23, 1990, Alice Mary Brown in her 73rd year. Predeceased by her husband Stanley, October 31, 1985. BROWN, Alphonso Whitfield (Al) - 150 Caribou Rd., Corner Brook Nfld. (Formerly of St. John's). It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mr. Alphonso Whitfield Brown announce his passing at the Western memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 18th 1993 in his 82nd year. He will be sadly missed by his two sons: Tomas and wife Florence and David and wife Sylvia, all residing at Corner Brook; one daughter Deirdre residing at Toronto; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Douglas, and Linda Brown and Joanne McCarthy, all residing at Corner Brook; two sisters: Olga Hodder residing at St. John's and Ruby Perry, residing at Harbour Grace. He will be also missed by a large circle of relatives and friends. The Funeral Service will take place on Monday at 3 pm from the Salvation Army Temple on O'Connell Drive, Corner Brook with interment at the Salvation Army section of Mt. Patricia Cemetery. BROWN, Bertha L. (nee Best) - Passed peacefully away at home in Lewisporte on November 16, 1992, formerly of Tacks Beach, Placentia Bay, aged 86 years. Predeceased by husband John F. BROWN, Catherine A. - 56, of Central Caribou, N.S. and a former resident of St. John's, died Saturday, January 4th at her home. She is survived by her husband Joseph; two daughters: Nancy and Cathy of St. John's; four sons: Joseph, Central Caribou, Gerald, Paul and Christopher of St. John's. BROWN, Dorothy H. - South China and Limestone, Maine. Dorothy Hynes Brown, 70, of Chadwick Hill Drive, died August 20, 1997, Wednesday at Inland Hospital in Waterville. Born in Shearstown, Newfoundland, Canada on October 24, 1926, she was the daughter of John and Catherine (Downey) Hynes. Dorothy was educated in local schools and attended Littledale College and Memorial University in St. John's, Newfoundland. She received her teacher's certificate. On September 27, 1949 she married John Patrick Brown in Shearstown, Newfoundland. She was employed by the Army Audit Agency at Harmon Air Force Base in Stephenville, Newfoundland. She travelled with her husband while he was in the U.S. Air Force. In 1966 she was employed at the NCO Club at Ellsworth AFB South Dakota. In 1972 she and her family moved to Limestone. Dorothy worked at the NCO Club at Loring AFB, retiring in 1991 as office manager. She and her husband moved to South China in 1993. She was communicant of St. Bridget's Catholic Church in North Vassalboro. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, John F. Brown of South China; six daughters: Patricia Harms of Eagen, Minnesota, Maureen Brown of Brunswick, L/Col. Sheila Brocki of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Geralyn Sidders of Mansfield, Ohio, Martha McCarthy of Sidney and Mary Mahowald of Navarre, Florida; three brothers: James Hynes and Leonard Hynes of Newfoundland and Bernard Hynes of Oromocto, New Brunswick; two sisters: Teresa McDonald of Nova Scotia and Patricia Shields of Newfoundland; 10 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Her granddaughter, Candace Harms, died previously as did two brothers: Leo and Gerard Hynes and two sisters: Mary Stella Hynes and Eileen Upton. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 21 at Gray & Pratt Funeral Home, Windsor Neck Road, Windsor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 22, 1997 at St. Peter's Chapel, Route 202, Lakeview Drive, China, with Rev. Donald Daigle officiating. She is survived by her children: Bert and his wife Florence of Fort Erie, Ontario, Dorothy Montgomery of Carlsbad, California, Ernie and his wife Anne of Sherwood Park, Alberta, Gerald and his wife Rosanne of Stoneham, Massachusetts, Shirley Simpson of Brampton, Ontario, Margorie and her husband Tom Collins of Vernal, Utah, Mary and her husband John Schmidt of Brantford, Ontario and Judy and her husband John Stephenson of Belleville, Ontario; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Hilda Bond and Blanche Stewart of Ontario, Alice Hydukovitch of Minnesota; and one brother Ernest Rose of Ontario; also numerous other relatives and friends. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Bell Island and Galt, a Major in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets and ran the Cadet program at St. Kevin's School, Bell Island. An employee of Dosco Mines, Bell Island, Nfld., until the mines closure in 1966 and latterly was employed for many years as a crossing guard at Glamis and Northview Heights. BYRNE, Nicholas - Passed peacefully away at the Central Nfld. Regional Health Centre, March 7, 1990, Nicholas (Nick) Joseph Byrne in his 74th year. Born August 26, 1915, he was the third son of Mary Ann and Joseph Byrne of Fortune Harbour, Nfld. He moved to Bishop's Falls in 1927 and began work with the Reid Nfld. Railway in 1935 and continued on with the Canadian National Railway until he retired in 1978 at the age of 62. Throughout his career, Nicholas' work carried him from one end of the province to the other, developing many friendships that lasted to this day. He joined the Knights of Columbus in Grand Falls, but transferred to the Monsignor Finn Council, Bishop's Falls as a Charter Member when it was formed. In 1989, he was granted a Honorary Life Membership and to his death remained a devoted 4th degree member. Nicholas will be remembered dearly by his wife Loretta; his children, Ann (fiance, Jeff James), Gander; Roy (wife, Debbie), Grand Falls; Iris (Mrs. Sean Walsh), Grand Falls; Vince (wife, Allison), Bedford, N.S.; Gerald and Goretti, Bishop's Falls, Christine (Mrs. Barry Budgen), Clarenville; Clyde (wife, Julie), Grand Falls; Anthony (wife, Roxanne), Halifax, N.S.; Arlene, Moose Jaw, Sask., and Sean (wife, Denise), Dartmouth, N.S.
