BARNES, John Randall, Sydney Mines - 84 YRS

It is with great sadness that we, the family of John Randall Barnes, 84, announce his passing on Monday, November 23, 2020, at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Newfoundland on October 11, 1936, he was the son of the late James and Francis Barnes. Rannie worked for Marine Atlantic for 38 years before retiring in 1992. He is survived by his loving wife Gloria (Matthews) Barnes; sons, Todd and Paul (Sandi) and daughter, Brenda (Ed) Clarke. Also left to mourn are his grandchildren; Jordan, Courtney, Hallie and Brady; great-grandson, Kingston; brother, George and sister, Barbara. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Clayton, Ernest and Dermoth and sisters, Melita and Elizabeth. His family would like to thank Dr. Wawer, the Palliative Care Team, Northside Homecare and EMS. Rannie was a private man and as per his wishes, there will be no visitation. DAY, William - 74yrs, Florence, Cape Breton

We, the family, sadly announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, William Day of Florence, C.B; on November 6, 2020 at home. Born in Harbour Breton, NL, on June 5, 1946, he was a son of the late Harry P and Edith (Neil) Day. He spent his life as a deep sea fisherman and enjoyed watching ball games and hockey; especially when the Montreal Canadians played.

He was married for 54 years to the love of his life, the former Marilyn Devoe and they raised 4 children together; daughter, Edith (Norm) Troock; sons, John (Dorothy), Allan (Melanie) and Vince (Phylis), all residing in Fort McMurray. Besides his wife and children, he is also survived by grandchildren, Dylon (Savana), Ocean, Fort McMurray; Justin and Jordan, North Sydney; sisters, Blanche (Fred), Marie (Lorne), Mildred (Jim), Marg (Eric); brother, Allan, all of Newfoundland; as well as a sister-in-law, Jean; step grandchildren, Carrie (Shaun); Jessica (James); Jenny (Weston), all of Fort McMurray. Also left to mourn are his friends George Pink, Dave Seaward & Wilson Plowman. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Darren Troy; brother, John; sisters, Gladys and Lydia as well as a sister-in-law, Margaret. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Bobbie York for her friendship and care as well as nieces Kim and Shauna for their care and compassion.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forest Haven and there will be no visitation. The family will plan a service of remembrance at a later date. McLellan, Florence M. (Rideout) - 94yrs

Florence M. McLellan
94, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 2, 2020 at Northside General Hospital. The daughter of the late Bond and Myrtle Rideout, she was born on Belle Island, Newfoundland, August 30, 1926 but lived most of her life in Sydney Mines. Besides her parents, Florence was predeceased by her husband, Ellsworth McLellan; sisters, Loretta MacKinnon and Margaret Ford; brothers, Fred, Kay, Val and Don Rideout. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Laureen Jenkins; best friend, Dorothy Mouland and several nieces and nephews. Florence was a devoted mother to her three daughters, Eleanor (David Wilson) Truro, Wendy, Kathy (John Scott) Sydney Mines. She was a loving grandmother/great-grandmother to Sarah, Jamie, Abby and Jay Thornham, Erin, Dwayne, Madelyn and Lauren Wilson-Fanning, and Katie, Cameron, Piper and Lauchie Morrison. She will also be missed by her sister, Bernice Rideout; sisters-in-law, Dolores Rideout and Theresa Aylward, numerous nieces and nephews including special nieces: Sherry MacNeil and Pam Carter. Our Mom loved gatherings with family and friends, music, nature and all creatures great and small. She maintained a keen sense of humor, interest in current events and unwavering loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leaf's. She was a gifted storyteller with an amazing memory and attention to detail. Mom was our world and we will love and miss her forever. God sees the little sparrows fall, They meet his tender view. Because God loves the little birds, I know he loves me too If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Carman United Church or the SPCA. There will be no visitation. A private funeral service will be held at Carman United Church, Sydney Mines with COVID-19 restrictions in place. Interment in Brookside Cemetery.
