COLES, Ignatius "Nish"

Born in Port Saunders, Newfoundland and Labrador, on June 8th, 1932
Passed in Springdale, Newfoundland and Labrador, on November 9th, 2017

It is with great loss and sadness that the family of Ignatius 'Nish' Coles announces his sudden passing at his home in Springdale on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at the age of 85 years.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife, Leah; daughter, Della (Wilson) Galliott of Fort McMurray, AB; step-children, Cathy (Darrin) Penney of Springdale, NL, Valerie (Sterling) Fowlow of South Brook, NL and Michael (Rhonda) House of Hawkes Bay, NL; grandchildren, Christina (Braeden) McDonald, Melissa, Danielle, Chantelle (Trevor), Jessica, Jenelle, Kelsey and Kolby; great grandchildren, Devon, Logan and Zoey; brothers and sisters, Rita Gould of Sydney, NS, Louise (Clarence) Ryan of Port Saunders, Josie (Kaz) Savitzski of Sydney, Helena (Bob) Phillipo of Sydney, Stella (Harry) Tighe of Port Hawkesbury and Gertie Campbell (Clayton Dickson) of Sydney, Jean Reid (Dan) of Sydney, Jenny Dornagic of Sydney, Anthony (Marie) Coles of Sydney and Deloris Coles of Sydney. He was predeceased by parents, Billy and Rachael Coles; brothers, York Coles and George Coles; sister-in-law, Loretta Coles, and brothers-in-law, Jim Gould and Hal Dornagic.

The family invites friends to visit at St. Joseph's RC Church Port Saunders, Saturday 7-9 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 13 at 11 a.m. with Father Joe officiating, followed by cremation as per his wishes. Friends may sign the guestbook or leave messages of condolence by visiting the website at www.fillatre.ca    Arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre Funeral Homes Ltd., Port au Choix, NL.


COSTIGAN, Thomas 'Tom' Joseph

Born on November 13, 1934
Passed on November 15th, 2017

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas 'Tom' Joseph Costigan, age 83, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.

Born on November 13, 1934, in Colliers, Newfoundland, Tom was the son of late Michael and Bride (Keating) and step-mother, Agnes (Whalen) Costigan. Tom was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer parish. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces in his younger years. Tom later was employed with Sydney Steel plant and CN Railway before retiring due to health.

Tom had a passion for the outdoors and enjoyed his large vegetable garden which he generously shared with family and friends. He will be remembered by family and friends for being very thoughtful and appreciative towards others. Tom is survived by his sister, Martha with whom he resided; other siblings, Joe (Cookie), Lorraine, Linda (Murdock), Michael (Pat), Helen (George), Marie, Brian (Debbie), Mary, Nancy (Wayne), Peggy (Arno) and John Glenn (Meredith); brother-in-law, Gary, and sister-in-law, Lorraine; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Tom was predeceased by his siblings, Sam, Mary and Beatrice and Brenda; in-laws, Phil, Jimmy, Chalmers and Charlie, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for the late Thomas 'Tom' Costigan will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating. A reception following the Mass will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home. A private family interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks at a later date. Donations in memory of Tom may be made the Holy Redeemer Building Fund. Family gives a big thank you to all the doctors and nurses in the palliative care unit for the care given to Tom during his time of need.
