PARDOE, Linda Kent PPROSSER, Samuel Sam was born in New Harbour, Nfld., the son of Samuel and Lillian Prosser. He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney. He is survived by his daughter, Shirley (Alec) Curtis; two grandchildren, Michael (Carmen) and Heather (Andrew) and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Olivia, Alexander Samuel and Charlotte Lillianne. Sam is also survived by nephews, Max (Monica) Prosser, Richard (Gertie) Prosser and niece, Donna (Doug) MacDonald as well as two sisters-in-law, Lena James and Dorothy Prosser. Sam was predeceased by his wife, Olive and brothers, Enoch, Charles, Canon Wallace, Frank, Jack and Bernard. Sam spent his life on the sea, a fisherman, a captain on the Englishtown ferries and a mate on the Great Lakes. He enjoyed woodworking and hooking rugs, showing great imagination and skill in the crafts he created. Sam was a folk artist before folk art became popular. Most of these special works became treasured gifts for others. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 12th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. A service celebrating his life will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. John's Anglican Church, King St., North Sydney with Rev. Debbie Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to St. John's Anglican Church Fund, Miners' Memorial Manor or to a charity of choice.
