Leslie Jones
, 95, of Sydney passed away at the Cove Guest Home on Friday, June 22, 2012, surrounded by his family. Born in Millertown, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Jessie and Emma (Sharp) Jones. Leslie was a steelworker at Sydney Steel for 44 years. He was a member of St. Albans Church, Lingan Golf Club and the Fisherman's Lodge. He was an avid skater, bowler and was Maritime horseshoe champion. He is survived by his wife of 75 years Mary (MacKinnon); sons, Robert 'Bob' (Moyra), Vancouver, William 'Bill' (Joan), Vancouver, and Frederick 'Fred' (Sally), Amherst; grandchildren, Kent (Stephanie), Dean and Marc (Kelly) Jones and great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Nathan Jones. Leslie was predeceased by a son, Donald, sister, Elizabeth, and a brother, Jack. Visitation will take place Monday, June 25 from 1-3 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Karen Quirk officiating. KENT, Mary "Betty"

Betty Kent
died peacefully, after a brief illness, on June 25, 2012, at Thomas Hall, Shannex Parkland, in Fredericton, N.B., in the presence of family members. She was born on Aug. 16 in Colliers, Nfld., the daughter of the late James and Cecilia (Rotchford) Burke. Betty was predeceased, in 1994, by her husband, Len Kent, of Westmount, Cape Breton, N.S. She is survived by daughters, Diane Kent Gillis (Greg Gillis), Fredericton, N.B., Linda Kent (Stephen Pardoe), Hinchinbrooke, Que., Allison Boudreau (Raymond), Spruce Grove, Alta., Claire Kent (Michael McDonald), London, England, Ruth Kent (David Porcellato), Port Elgin, Ont., Cynthia Kent (Kevin West), Carleton Place, Ont.; two sisters, Catherine Coady (Bill), St. John's, Nfld., and Anne Hutchinson (Hutch), Fairfield, California; and two brothers, James Burke, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Nick Burke, Toronto, Ont.; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Patrick Burke of St. John's, Nfld.

Betty deeply loved her grandchildren and treasured the time spent with each of them. Her grandchildren include; Kristine Moore (Cliff Van Kempen), Barrie, Ont., Cara Gillis (Jeff Lawler), Los Angeles, California, Kaitlyn Gillis (Tom Joyce), Fredericton, N.B., Catherine Boudreau, Edmonton, Alta., Adrian Boudreau, Spruce Grove, Alta., Ellen and Rachael McDonald, London, England, and Hannah Kent, Port Elgin, Ont.

Following cremation, a visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 28. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 noon on Friday, June 29, 2012 at St. Dunstan's Parish Church, Fredericton, followed by a reception in the Monsignor Boyd Family Centre. For those who wish, charitable donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.mcadamsfh.com

Alma Peach
, 93, of Glace Bay, passed away Monday, June 25, 2012, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Harbour Le Cou, N.L., she was the daughter of the late James and Videt (Harnum) Horwood. She was a member of the Newsom United Church and knitted for the Glace Bay Hospital Auxiliary. She is survived by her children, Anderine (David) Gillard, Corner Brook, N.L., Madonna (Hector) Leonard, Corner Brook, N.L., and Jimmy Peach (Sheila); grandchildren, Billy, Kevin, Glenn, Tawnya, Shauna, Bruce, Jenell, Jaime and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Enid Warner. Alma was predeceased by her husband, Harold, sister, Rita, brothers, Harry, Clyde and Albert.

Visitation for Elma will be held at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today (Tuesday, June 26) with a funeral service on Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Newsom United Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. Interment in the Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Donations can be made to the Newsom United Church or to a charity of choice. It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Clyde Sheppard on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, in the An Cala Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a brief illness. Clyde was born in Lark Harbour, Nfld. on Oct. 21, 1931. He is survived by his seven children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and his best friend, Mae Mollon. Besides his parents, Clyde was predeceased by his wife, Ruby, in 1991. Cremation has take place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will take place in Lark Harbour, Nfld. Memorials may be made to St. Alban's Anglican Church Building Fund or a charity of one's choice. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Evelyn Stroud, our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Evelyn passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012, at the Northside Community Guest Home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Harbour Le Cou, N.L., she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Harriet (Taylor) Graham.

Evelyn was a strong health food advocate for most of her life. She educated herself in the practices of holistic living over the years, and was very dedicated, even though it was not common or popular at the time. She instilled the values and importance of healthy eating and living in her children and grandchildren, and became well known in the community for helping anyone who came asking for her help and guidance. Evelyn was an active member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, where she and her husband Norman, had many fond memories as members of the Married Couples Group.

Evelyn is survived by her five children, Norma (Gordon) Patterson, Boularderie, Harriett Patey, Trenton, Ont., Glen (Winnie) Stroud, St. Catharines, Ont., Wanda (Harry) Harbin, Sydney Mines, Alvin (Karen) Stroud, North Sydney; her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Shirley Bell, Hackey Peters and brother, Cyrus Graham, all of Ontario. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Stroud, sister, Rachel Foxwell and brothers, Russell, Sam and Leslie Graham.

Visitation for Evelyn will be 7-9 p.m. Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church North Sydney, with Rev. Carl Fraser, officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Lakeside Cemetery. WOODFINE, Augustine "Gus"

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gus Woodfine on Sunday, June 10, 2012, at Taigh Na Mara Veterans Wing in Glace Bay. Born in Conception Bay, Nfld., he was the son of the late Thomas and Jane (O'Flaherty) Woodfine. He was a veteran of WWII serving overseas with the Medical Corps, aboard hospital ships. Gus had been a long time resident of Ross Avenue in North Sydney. He was employed as a tractor trailer operator for Eastern Transport in Sydney until his retirement.

He is survived by his sons, Brian (Barb) Sydney, Albert, NB, Terry; his daughters, Maralyn Napier, Lower Sackville, Peggy Carey, Sydney, Judy Woodfine, and Glynis (Blair) Ivey, both of North Sydney; by his nine grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren; brothers, Bernie Woodfine and Tommy (Lorraine) Woodfine, both of Sydney Mines; sisters, Cecilia, Annie Mae and Nell. Gus was predeceased by his wife Margie (Bryan) Woodfine; his son Bruce and infant son, Martin; brother, William and sister, Josephine. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff of Taigh Na Mara in Glace Bay for the love and care given to Gus for the past nine years.

Visitation for Gus Woodfine will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Wednesday from the Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Fraser, officiating. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of NS. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com
