LAKE, William "Bill", 84 Born in Oderin, Placentia Bay, Nfld., on July 6, 1921, he was the son of the late William Lake and Angela (Mulrooney) Lake. Bill spent his early years in the Atlantic fishery and was a retired CN Marine Atlantic employee. Bill leaves to mourn, his wife of 30 years, Hilda (Pafford-Gabriel), her children and their families, Reginald (Helen) Gabriel, Bill Gabriel, Harold (Pat) Gabriel, Linda (Ib) Lauritsen, David (Sandra) Gabriel, Gordon (Bev) Gabriel; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews in the Lake family. He was predeceased by his brothers, Patrick, Cecil and John. Visitation for the late Mr. Lake will take place Wednesday, Nov. 23 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral service will take place Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel with Rev. Sandy MacNeil officiating. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Grand Lake Road, Sydney. Donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit (Cape Breton Regional Hospital Health Care Complex), Salvation Army (Parkdale House) or a charity of choice. On line condolences may be sent to twcurryparkviewchapel@ns.sympatico.ca MAY, Frances (Rose) Frances will be sadly missed by her brothers, Kenneth, Enos (Margaret), Alton (Annelise), Bob(Levina) and Tom (Pat); sisters, Sarah Caines, Ada Grant and Charity (Tom) Pope; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30. Funeral service will be held 11a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, at St. Mark's Anglican Church, Coxheath, Rev. Fred Rhymes officiating, assisted by Rev.Weldon Smith. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. In memory of Frances, donations to the Dr. V.A. Snow Center's Garden of Hope project, the Alzheimer's Society or charity of choice would be appreciated. There will be a reception with family following the service. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydmemchapel@ns.sympatico.ca PENNY, Catherine "Kitty", 94 Born in Western Bay, Nfld., on Oct. 23, 1911, moving to New Waterford at the age of four years. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Deliah (Kennedy-MacDonald) McCarthy. Mom was a well-known local seamstress, having worked with Koolex Cleaners for many years. She was a longtime devoted member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney, and a member of the Children of Mary. She is survived by two
daughters, Jean MacLean, North Sydney, Sharon (Ron Wrathall), Mississauga;
one son,Albert, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; daughter-in-law, Gail Penny, Kingston,N.S.;
one sister, Elizabeth Dickson, Marion Bridge; half-sister, Agnes (Marie)
Mac- Donald, New Waterford. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband,Albert Penny, one son,
Robert, daughter, Lois Serry, son-in-law, Norman MacLean, two sisters, Mary
Lewis and Martha Mac- Neil, three brothers, James, Jerry and John, three brothers
in infancy, William, Charles and Patrick, infant sister, Elizabeth and stepfather,
Andrew MacDonald. Visitation for the late Catherine will be held from 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3 in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant
St., North Sydney. Funeral mass to be celebrated 2 p.m. Friday in St. Joseph
Church, with Rev. Tom MacNeil officiating. Burial to follow in Holy Cross
Cemetery, North Sydney. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made
to St. Joseph Church Improvement Fund or charity of choice. Online condolences
