Violet Bartlett
, 91, wife of the late Jacob Bartlett, passed away peacefully Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003, at the Bay St. Georges Complex in Stephenville, Nfld. Born in Rose Blanche on Sept. 24, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Maria (Currie) and John Strickland. She resided in North Sydney, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, and former member of the ACW and MCA and Altar Guild of the church. She was also a member of the LOBA and LTBA of the Orange Lodge. She was a member of the North Sydney Senior Citizens Club for many years.

She is survived by her two sons, Lewis (Ann) Jeffreys, Newfoundland, John (Susie), Millville, N.S. Also by five grandchildren, who were her shining stars, Rick and Jacob Todd, Moncton, N.B., Violet, Yellowknife, N.W.T., Andrew (Drew), Millville, N.S. and Rita, Baddeck, N.S. Ten great-grandchildren, Meaghan, Aaron, Jenna, Kashena, Niven, Callie, Ashlyn, Kayla, Ryleigh and Cassidy; one sister, Blanche Rose, Port aux Basques; brother, Ralph Strickland, Cambridge, Ont. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob (Gyp) and son, Lloyd. Also by brothers, Tom and Will; foster brother, James Payne and sisters, Mary-Ann Dolomount and Phoebe Dawe. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Friday) at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held Saturday, 2 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Reception to follow in the church hall. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to St. John Anglican Church Fund or charity of one's choice.


ROLFE, Vera 82,
GLACE BAY/SYDNEY

Vera Rolfe
, 82, of Victoria Haven Nursing Home and formerly of Sydney, passed away Monday, Sept. 8, 2003, at the nursing home. Born in Newfoundland, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mable (Reynolds) Rolfe. Vera was adherent to the Salvation Army. Vera is survived by a sister, Olga, brother, Raymond (Annie) Rolfe, Sydney; also by a number of nieces and nephews and by her friends at Victoria Haven Nursing Home. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Aubrey. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. Friends are invited to join the family for graveside service Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, with Capt. Jamie Hillier officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay.
