Georgina Florence Froude
, 55, Mapleridge Drive, Sydney, (formerly Westmount), passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Thursday, Aug. 21, 2003. Born in St. John's, Nfld., she was the daughter of the late Peter and Mildred (Follett) Noftle. Georgie was a member of Westmount United Church, where she was the organist for the past 25 years. She was also a former organist at Buchans United Church, Nfld. At one time, Georgie was a cook at the Wandlyn Motel and Keddy's Motor Inn, Sydney. She loved to sing and was always ready with a big smile.

Surviving is her husband, Harvey; stepsons, Lonnie (Gail) and Shawn (Alicia), Toronto; sister, Marguerite Noftle and special niece, Rachael, Portage; brothers, Harris (Valda), Bloomfield, Nfld. and Edwin (Edith), Campbellton, Nfld.; step-grandchildren, Tammy, Tawnya, Matthew and Marcus; step-great-grandchildren, Laurissa and Nathanial; aunt, Sadie Moore, Harbourstone Enhanced Care, and several nieces and nephews. Georgie was predeceased by a brother in infancy. Visitation will be held at Westmount United Church from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday with a memorial service held in the church 2 p.m. Tuesday, Rev. David Hann and Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Interment in Conception Bay, Nfld. No flowers by request. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydmemchaple@ns.sympatico.ca

Terrence Leander "Ta" Vaters
, 73, of 3 Newton St., Glace Bay, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2003, in the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex. Born Dec. 17, 1929, in Victoria Village, Nfld., son of the late Robert and Mary Ann (Little) Vaters. He resided in Glace Bay most of his life. He was employed in the coal industry in Broughton, retiring from No. 26 Colliery after a lengthy service. He was a member of Epworth United Church. Survivors include companion, Cleo Shea; sons, Wally, Winnipeg, Robert, Roy, Vancouver; stepson, Ronnie Ashe, Winnipeg; stepdaughter, Vivian Berkley, Kitchener; sister, Ruby Mada Drinkwater, Mississauga; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Jean, stepdaughter, Dorothy, brother, Roy, sisters, Rose and Laura. Cremation has taken place. Visitation Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Patten Funeral Home and Chapel, Union Street, Glace Bay. Funeral service, with Nancy Whitney officiating, will be Thursday, Aug. 7, 2003, at 2 p.m. in the chapel. The cremains will be interred in Greenwood Cemetery. No flowers by request. "Terrence will be forever missed and fondly remembered by his very close friend, Will MacLean of Dominion and Kelly and Iris Sparrow who had longtime family ties." Donations in Terrence's memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association.
