78, North Sydney
Effie Blanche Freeborne, Gannon Road, North Sydney, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family she loved. Born in Harbour Mille, Nfld., she was a daughter of the late George and Josephine (Pardy) Vardy. She was the beloved wife of William Freeborne who predeceased her in 1990. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, North Sydney. Mom was a very loving and devoted mother and she left behind a family who will forever hold her close in their hearts. She is survived by one daughter, Linda (Mrs. Harris Jackson), North Sydney; three sons, George (companion, Loretta Habicht ), Florence, Eric (Anne), St. John's, William (Debi), Shenacadie; five sisters; four brothers; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Especially close to her heart and who brought special joy to her life everyday was her granddaughter, Tanya Cuzner (husband David) and her grandson, Sean Freeborne. She was also very close to her brother, Berkley Vardy (wife Betty) and his family. She was predeceased by one brother, William.It was in Mom's nature to be loving and caring to everyone she came to know and she will be greatly missed by her family, close friends, and neighbours. Because she gave so freely of her time and her love held no limits, she has passed a wonderful legacy on to those who loved her so much. Visitation will be today (Thursday) 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2- 4 and 7-9 p.m. at the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Anglican Church, North Sydney with Archdeacon Reg MacDonald officiating. Burial at Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
