James Butts
, 80, of Florence died Tuesday night in Spring  Garden Villa, Sydney. Born in Freshwater, Nfld. he was a son of the late  Mr. and Mrs. Moses Butts. Mr. Butts was a retired miner having worked at  Florence Colliery for many years. He lived in the Florence-Bras d'Or  area for 52 years. A member of Wilson United Church, he is survived by  his wife, the former Mary Esther Gear, two sons James at home and Ernest  in Sydney Mines; 11 daughters, (Lily) Mrs. Louis Jesso, South Haven; (Violet) Mrs. Henry Osborne, Angus, Ont.; (Janie) Mrs. Kenneth MacAskill, Millville; (Ada) Mrs. Russelll Manzuk, Big Bras d'Or; (Alice) Mrs. John Devoe; (Dora) Ella) Mrs. Sid Vickers, (Esther) Mrs. William Tremblett, (Irene) Mrs. Albert Rice, (Ruby) Mrs. Carl Brooks, all of Sydney Mines; Gety Tremblett in Toronto; and (Doris) Mrs. Delbert MacLean, Point Aconi. Also a sister, Mrs. Louise Snow in Birch Grove; a brother Jack in Glace Bay; 100 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. The body is resting at the Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Funeral arrangements are to be announced.

COOPER, Frank

- 74 - died 20 Nov 1973. Born in Clarenville, Nfld, he resided in Sydney for 30 years. Predeceased by his wife Elizabeth Vardy in 1969. He is survived by his children Harold, Roy, Lawrence, Sadie (Douglas) Rolfe, Shirley (Nelson) Gray, Alice (Duncan) Gillis, all in Sydney and Olive (Harold ) Kelgar, Dartmouth. Survived by a brother Harold in Somerville Mass. Predeceased by sisters Mrs Walter White, Mrs John James, and brothers George and Absolom.

- 86 - died 22 Nov 1973. Mr Janes died 18 years ago. She is survived by a daughter Evelyn (William) Ingram, Westmount, and sons Bernard and Henry of Burgeo. Funeral will be 24 Nov 1973 in Burgeo.

Michael Thistle
- Sydney - 85 - died 13 Nov 1973 at McGillivary Guest Home in Sydney, NS. He was born in Fogo, Nfld. Michael and his wife  Minnie celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on the 5th of Nov 1973. He is survived by sons - Edward, Sydney River; William, Sydney; daughters - Ellen living at home, Delores (Ira) Buckland, Sydney; Theresa (Tom) Elder,  Dartmouth ; and a brother Patrick, Fogo. Funeral service will be Thurs 15 Nov 1973; with interment to follow in Reserrection Cemetery.
