John F Driscoll
- Glace Bay - 77 - 191 Walllace Road died Sunday 9 Dec 1973 in St Joseph's Hospital. Born (?Morris or Toris - Newspaper copy illegible) Cove, Newfoundland. he worked as a fireman at # 20 colliery when he retired in 1961. Employed with the coal company for 37 years. Mr Driscoll was a long time member of the AOH. When he was active in the area he belonged to the St John's Parish.

He is survived by his wife the former Josephine Deveaux of Grand Etang and sons Albert, Montreal; Michael and George, Kitchener; Tom, Glace Bay; daughters, Mary and Tilley (Joseph) Mercer, both of Glace  Bay  Catherine (Nick) Dawson, Sydney; Josephine (Kenneth) Wolstonhome, Camp Borden, Ont; Theresa (James) MacSavaney; Sophie (John) Peters, both of Kitchener; 31 Grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren. A son George killed in the second world war & 3 brothers predeceased him and he was the last surviving member of his family. The body is resting at Currie's Funeral Home, King Edward Street, Sydney and the Funeral will take place Wednesday Morning at 10 o'clock.

EVANS, Len

Len Evans
of 192 East James Street died Thursday night in City Hospital after a long illness. He was 80 years old. He was born in English Harbour Nfld son of the late Mr & Mrs Alfred G Evans and resided in Sydney most of his life. Employed  as a machinist at the Steel Plant for over 50 years, he retired 13 years ago. He was member of Holy Redemer Parish.

He is survived by 7 sons; Lemule, New Glasgow; Robert, Truro; Brace, Borden, Ont.; Alfred Toronto; James Leo & Paul Sydney and two daughters Aileen ( Harold) MacDonald, Judic and Thelma (Frank) Murphy Sydney; and 20 grandchildren. Survived by sisters - Rev Sister Maria Vincent - Sisters of Charity,  Mount Saint Vincent, Halifax and Mrs Bessie (BJ) Carol. His wife Blanche died in 1971 and he was predeceased by a Sister - Rev Sister Madeline. The body is resting at Currie Parkview Chapel George Street Sydney. Further arrangements will be announced later.

MORRIS, W. M. (Frank)

W. M. (Frank) Morris
63 - GlaceBay - 44 School Street died at the General Hospital where he had been a patient for the past two months. Mr Morris was a retired coal miner, working in No 4 and No 20 collieries, retiring from # 20 in 1972. A native of Nfld he came here 45 years ago. He was an adherent of St Mary's Church and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, son, Melvin, Port Hawksbury; daughters Phyllis (Clifford) MacLeod Glace Bay and Shirley (Gordon) Stewart Glace Bay; seven grandchildren and brothers Arthur, Newfoundland; George, England and Piercey, Ont sisters Laura (Wesley) Legg, Nfld; Lena (William) Faradey, Ont; Predeceased by his parents George & Harriett Morris and by a brother Jack in 1973. The body will rest at Patten's Funeral Home York Street, service to take place at St. Mary's Church Saturday 2 pm. Interment to follow at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens with Rev Gordon Pike to officiate.

PADDOCK, John

News of the death of her brother John Paddock 89 on Tuesday  25 Dec 1973 in Grand Falls, Nfld  has been received here by Mrs Pheobe Mortimer of 46 Vulcan Avenue. Mr Paddock is survived by two sisters Mrs Mortimer of Sydney and Mrs Emma Cross in Grand Falls and one brother Sid, Grand Falls also a number of neices and nephews in Sydney and Grand Falls. The Funeral took place Thursday afternoon in Grand Falls.

STRICKLAND, Mrs. Annie

Mrs Olive Tonary New Waterford has received word of the death of her grandmother, Mrs Anne Strickland, 98, at her home in Burgeo, Nfld. Mrs Strickland was predeceased by her husband Thomas and a daughter Ada (Charles) MacKinnon, Wilson Ave., New Waterford.

She is survived by a son with whom she resided and two daughters Mrs Hilda MacDonald, Burgeo and Mrs Olive Cawlishaw, Montreal. She is survived by a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Three of her grandchildren reside in New Waterford. Funeral took place in Burgeo.

- 61 - Death occured on Monday 24 Dec 1973 at Harbour Grace Nfld where he resided for the greater part of his life . Born in Sydney the son of the late James and Mary Kate Sweetland, besides his wife the former Alice Sterling of Harbour Grace he is survived by two sons Llewellyn, Goose Bay  and  Clarence, St John's. Several grandchildren also five sisters. Mrs Tom Harrett and Isabel (Dan) Burton Sydney; Violet (Garlen) Barnes & Mrs Collis Hookey, Toronto Helen (Tom) Martin Harbour Grace and two Brothers Edward Harbour Grace and Roland Halifax. Funeral took place Wed at Harbour Grace

- 19 yrs - died 21 Dec 1973 in a car accident. The son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Fricker) Symes. Survived by brothers & sisters: Andrew, Neil's Harbour; Luella (George) Thomas, North Sydney; Oliver, North Sydney; Patricia (Miles) MacLeod, Ingonish; Phyllis (Larry) Burnell, Manitoba; Nelda, Della, Linda, Nichole at home. Predeceased by a brother. Interment will be 23 Dec 1973. [Grandson of Theodore Fricker b. 19 Jun 1881 Harbour Le Cou, Newfoundland]
