Marie Baker
of Calgary passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital July 28, 2009. She was 49 years old. Marie was born in Jersey Harbour, Newfoundland. She is survived by her loving partner Verle, sisters Joyce, Joan, Beverley, Rhonda, Ruth, Pauline, brother Gordon, their spouses and her many nieces and nephews. She had many good friends, especially her close friends Brenda and Shelly. Predeceased by parents Stephen and Eileen Baker and two brothers-in-law. In lieu of flowers, donations for a Memorial Bench would be appreciated (c/o Verle). Boyd "Thomas" Boone
of Calgary passed away at his home, early Saturday morning, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Tom leaves to mourn his spouse of twenty-eight years, Lila Campbell; his two children, Tom Jr. (Jillian) and Kathy, both of Nova Scotia; his four step-children, Jim (Cindy), Jamie (Steve), Genevieve, and Angelita; and three step-grandchildren, Nikki, Chantelle and Garnet. He also leaves behind seven brothers and sisters, Sylvia Bugden, Rita (Terry) Poulton and Ernest (Linda), all of Newfoundland, Bill (Jean) of St. Albert, Andrew (Teri) of Calgary, Shirley Grandy of Fort McMurray, and June (Stephen) Cooper of Calgary. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Julia Boone of Bareneed, Newfoundland. Tom's easygoing and fun-loving nature resulted in a multitude of friends that will also feel his loss. Among these are his close friends at Schanks and Stampede Park. Megan Gammack and Les Chafe are thrilled to announce the birth of their second child, Molly Anne, born October 13, 2009. Big brother Sammy is looking forward to having a new playmate. Proud grandparents are Naomi Pencer and Don Seidle of Calgary, Flo Penney and Don Bailey of Labrador, and Sherry and Rick Chafe of St. John's, Nfld. Molly will get lots of extra love from her Great-Grandma Judy Pencer, and special Papa Larry Rosen. Jessica Mill and Kris Fagan are proud to introduce their baby boy Oliver Patrick Fagan born on February 7, 2009, at 6:37 a.m., weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces. Oliver is welcomed into the family by his grandfather Barrie Mill (Jean), and uncle Allan and uncle Kevin in Calgary, and uncle Jason, aunt Elaine and cousin Noah in St. John's, Newfoundland along with a large circle of family and friends. Guardian Angels, Grandma Rene MacDonnell and Nan and Pop Sandra and Pat are watching over Oliver. Special thanks to the caring and supportive staff at the Foothills Hospital.

Alberta lost one of its kindest residents on Friday, when Jack Gellately passed away. He will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty-eight years - Gertrude, his eight children, twelve grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many, many friends. He was our rock. Jack was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, where he proudly became a Boilermaker by trade. He married Gertrude Walsh, and later moved to Calgary where they raised their family. They spent several years in Redcliff and Medicine Hat before returning to Calgary and settling in Cochrane. Jack loved the mountains, and they enjoyed many summers in Canmore. He also loved his family, anything Scottish, and the friendly people of Alberta. An Open House will be held on Saturday, April 11 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the common room of Mountainview Terrance, 72 Quigley Drive, Cochrane. Please wear his favorite colour - plaid. Special thanks to Cochrane Home Care Nurses, as well as the many doctors and health care professionals who lovingly cared for Jack for the past few years. A very special thanks goes to the FMC Special Services Ward 36 staff for their outstanding care and compassion. passed peacefully away on Saturday July 18, 2009 at the age of 62 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of forty-two years, Sadie Genge; children, Paul (Kimberly) Genge and Sheri (Travis) Genge; grandson Kieran Genge; sisters Pearl Dowden and Constance McLean, both of St. John's; brothers Samuel (Aggie) Genge of St. John's and Steven Genge of Anchor Point. Porter was born in Newfoundland and lived most of his life there. His family will remember him mostly for his love of golf and his sense of humor that put everyone at ease. Following his wishes, his cremated remains will be scattered back home in Newfoundland. of Calgary, born September 2, 1918 at Fox Island River, Newfoundland, passed away at the Foothills Medical Centre on Friday, November 13, 2009 at the age of 91 years. Margaret is survived by her son Michael; her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Bruce Kennedy, and Judith and Britton Mockridge; and brother Gerald Hynes. She is also survived by eight grandchildren; Alex Hackett (Jaci); Tracy Colville (Kevin); eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband Ignatius; and her sons, Howard and David, as well as her daughter-in-law Margaret, wife of her son Michael. George Hynes
, beloved husband of Anne-Marie, passed away in the presence of his family on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the age of 61 years. George was born in Terrenceville, NL. George and his loving wife Anne-Marie were married and moved to Alberta in 1978. They were married for thirty-one wonderful years.

George will be remembered for his strength of character, his quirky sense of humour, and his golf game. He was our constant, our anchor, and the rock of our family. He was well-respected for his great work ethic and was highly esteemed by his coworkers. He will be forever in our hearts.

Besides his wife Anne-Marie, George is also survived by his children, Jenna, Gillian, and Michael; parents, Joseph and Theresa Hynes; three brothers, Pius (Isabel), Joseph (Melita), Stan (Rhona); and four sisters, Rebecca (Gus Hickey), Mary (Peter Blum), Theresa Power (Max Rodway), and Christina Hynes (Clarence Banfield). George was predeceased by his brother Norman. LEGROW, Gwenllian (Gwen) Decil

Gwenllian (Gwen) Decil LeGrow
of Calgary passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Gwen was born in South Wales on December 10, 1912. She served as a radio operator during World War II. After the war, she became a nurse in London, England. Gwen loved adventure and in 1949 went to Newfoundland to serve as a nurse in the outports. It was there she met and married the love of her life Reg to whom she was married for fifty-three wonderful years before his passing in 2005. Gwen lived in Newfoundland until 2002, when she and Reg moved to Alberta to be closer to family. Gwen made friends wherever she went and has many wonderful friends in Newfoundland, across Canada and in Britain. Gwen is survived by her son John; daughter-in-law, Anna and her family; grandsons, Christopher and Shane; brother, Alun in England; sister-in-law, Betty in Ontario and nieces and nephews in Britain and Ontario. MACKEY, John-Michael

"My Beloved Son, my Little Prince, let your spirit's journey begin"On Tuesday, December 1, 2009 John-Michael William Mackey, born Thursday, August 22, 1991 in St. John's, Newfoundland to his loving mother Ann Marie Mackey, unexpectedly but peacefully passed away at his father's home in Calgary, Alberta at the young age of eighteen. With huge tears of sorrow and the fondest of memories, we remember a life cut tragically short but lived to the fullest and cherished by many. John-Michael will be desperately missed and affectionately remembered by his adoring mother and biggest advocate Ann Marie; stepdad Brad Sears; father Gary Brown; his loving and devoted grandparents Rose and Bill (nanny and poppy) Mackey; grandparents Alice and Pius Brown; Uncle Doug and Aunt Michelle and cousins Ben and Peter; Aunt Darlene (Emre) and cousins: Samantha, Roman, and Emre; Paul and Bev, Andrew (Annie) and Jiselle (Bill) Sears. John-Michael will be eternally remembered by his girlfriend Emily Matthews and best friend James Mutch, as well as numerous other loving friends and extended family.

John-Michael was a loving and caring son, grandson, stepson, nephew, cousin and friend. He was an intelligent and articulate young man who positively touched many people on his short but significant journey in life. He will be remembered for, among other things, his charismatic and contagious personality, tolerance, relaxed and polite nature, generosity, kindness and the indiscriminate love and goodwill he so freely offered family and friends alike. From the time he was a little boy, John-Michael was open to every possibility life might offer him an, infectious spirit and easy smile was an inspiration and joy to those who knew him. Words cannot express how much he will be missed. He will always be a part of our hearts and we were so happy to have known you.

Franklin Robinson MacKenzie
, beloved husband of Marg of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Frank was born and raised in Campbelton, NB and graduated from Mount Allison University and Nova Scotia Technical College with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He spent most of his working career in Alberta in the oil and gas industry. Frank especially loved the mountains and he and his wife Marg spent a great deal of time hiking and skiing in them. He was a lifetime member of the Norseman Ski Club and was active in the Prairie Mountaineers Hiking Club. In later years, he and Marg travelled extensively to many parts of the world and enjoyed their retirement together. In addition to his loving wife, Marg, Frank is also survived by three sons, Scott (Karen) of Corner Brook, NL, Ken (Renee) of Calgary, and Bruce (Jay) of Vancouver, BC; and one sister, Marion (Lloyd) Hinton of Aurora, ON. Frank was very proud of his three grandchildren, Brian, Douglas and Anna MacKenzie, and he particularly enjoyed getting together with them during the summer in Nova Scotia. A private family gathering will be held. MARTIN, John (Jack) William [with photo]

Born February 1, 1923 in St. John's, Newfoundland, and proud of it, Jack passed away in Calgary on Monday, November 2, 2009, peacefully in the arms of Lillian (nee Huband), his one true love and best friend for sixty-five years. Besides his loving wife Lillian, Jack is also survived by his daughters, Janet (Jim), Karen (Tom) and Sheilah (Hersh); grandchildren, Andrea, Jody, Greg, Ashley, Rory, Sean, Shauna, Andrea Cori, Amanda, Eden, Glynnis, Shana, and Gavin; and fourteen great-grandchildren. All grieve the loss of this greatly loved man. Never one to complain, Dad found only the best in us all. With sisters, Mary, Nell and Gabe, and their families in St. John's, we will all miss Jack's sense of humour, love of family and quiet gentle patience. Jack enlisted and served in the RCAF and graduated from McGill University after the war. He spent his working years in Montreal, retiring first to White Rock, B.C., for sea air, and later to Calgary to be near those he loved. He lived a full and loving life and battled Alzheimer's and illness with his characteristic grace and tenacity. He touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. A Private Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at a later date. TAYLOR , Mabel Evelyn

A shooting star passed over the sky last night signalling Mabel's final journey home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Born March 3, 1918 in Spout Cove, Nfld. Mabel passed away peacefully at the Carewest George Boyack Care Centre, Calgary on Monday, December 7, 2009. Mabel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Joan (Hayward) Slade of Nfld. and daughter-in-law Dairdre Taylor of Calgary, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. WATERHOUSE, Wilfred Glen

Glen Waterhouse
passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Wilfred Glen Rhodes was born May 18, 1916 near Carberry, MB and grew up on farms in the Pleasant Point and Melbourne districts, attending a country one-roomed school with his sisters and brother. Although having had ambitions of joining the R.C.M.P., he chose the R.C.A.F. during WWII and that became his life's work. In July 1946, Glen married Marjorie Snow of St. John's, NL. After being posted to various Eastern and Western Canadian Airfields, he retired from the R.C.A.F. and they settled permanently in Calgary, AB. He then worked a few years for Canada Post and the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (S.A.I.T.).

Although he had his share of life's problems, Glen remained positive and enjoyed life. He had lived in his own home until October 2008. Glen is survived by his granddaughter Miranda; daughter-in-law Diane Waterhouse; two sisters and brother-in-law, Margaret and Robert Mitchell, and Agnes Dickson; sister-in-law Thelma Waterhouse, all of Carberry, MB; and step-granddaughters, Melanie and Megan. Many dearly loved nieces and nephews also survive Glen, and well as his wife, Marjorie's sister and nieces and nephews of her five deceased sisters and two deceased brothers. Glen was predeceased by his life partner Marjorie in March 2003 and by their only son Bruce in September 1990. He was also predeceased by his younger brother Lyle, of Carberry, MB in 1997; younger sister and her husband, Catherine and Jack Hutchings of Kelowna, BC, in 2008; as well as his father Harold in 1950 and his mother Bertha (nee Creller) in 1988.

A Celebration of Glen's Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com .
