MOULTON, MABEL
Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care centre on September 20, 2024 Mabel Moulton of Epworth, NL at the age of 78. Leaving to mourn with wonderful memories are her treasured husband Gerald Moulton of Epworth, her children Lana (Dave), Steven (Patricia), Sonya (Rick), and Lyndon (Jessica), grandchildren Leah (Jordan), Sarah, Sofie and Brennan, Joel and Joanna, and the sweetest little great grandchild, Blair. Sisters Bonnie (Brian), Lillian, Pauline (Dave), brother Joe (Paula), sister in law Sharon, brothers in law Calvin (Pat), Ted, Richard and Fred and so many nieces and nephews that I can't list them all (but you know who you are and how much she loved each of you and your babies), a host of cousins and their families, and her nursing and Burin hospital family. I would be amiss to leave out Oliver, the coolest tabby in Epworth who she dearly loved and called "the best cat ever". Nurse Mabel was predeceased by her parents Flo and Joe Manning of Epworth, parents in law Lena and George Moulton of Epworth, brother John, sister Karen, brothers in law Dale and Jack, and sisters in law Joyce and Brenda.
Mabel Annie Moulton (Manning) was born on September 20, 1946, the oldest of 7 children. From birth she was a caregiver. She taught school on Woody Island for one year before entering nursing school where she would find the love of her life (second only to Gerald). She married our dad in 1968 and they raised a family of 4 while both of them still cared for their parents. She nursed part time when we were small, doing ambulance escorts to town, and shifts at the St. Lawrence and the Burin Cottage hospitals. When the new Burin hospital opened in '92, she was among the initial clan of nurses that established and ran the Obstetrical unit and she never looked back. Working as an OBS nurse was her true calling and she touched the lives of countless colleagues, mothers, fathers and their families over the next two decades.
In the last several years, dementia infiltrated my mother's life and our families experiences. It was nothing less than heart wrenching to watch this powerhouse of a human being become degraded by an awful disease that robbed us of her strengths and took away the joys in her life. But she is at peace now and we will remember her only as the smart, kind, caring, tireless, and compassionate lady that she was. Nurse Mabel will live on in the work of the nurses she mentored and inspired, some of whom call her Nanny and Aunt Mabel. The entire Moulton family send special thanks to the staff of the Burin Peninsula Hospital for the exceptional care she received during her stay there and the many special family members, friends and coworkers who came to see her during her final days.
Donations in Mabel's memory can be made to the Burin Health Care Foundation. Family only on Sunday September 22, 2024 from 4-6PM at Serenity Funeral Home Burin. Family will be receiving friends on Sunday September 22, 2024 7-9PM & Monday September 23, 2024 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 2PM from Serenity Chapel Burin will interment following at Epworth United cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home We listen, we learn, we walk with you.

SPERRY, DAVID RUSSELL
It is with great sorrow, that our family announces the passing of David Russell Sperry at the age of 74. On September 26, 2024, David peacefully passed at the U.S. Memorial Health Centre in St. Lawrence, NL. As a pilot and RCMP member, he intrepidly, skillfully, and selflessly worked to aid and assist wherever and whenever called upon. As a friend, he was supportive, loyal and always generous with his time, knowledge and advice. As a father, brother, uncle, and grandpa, he loved unconditionally, listened attentively, gently guided and spoke with much wisdom and wit. But as a husband, he was everything that is wonderful. Leah was his Sun, Moon and Stars. He praised and protected her; honoured and loved her without reservation. God, rest his dauntless soul.
Dave served his country proudly and with distinction as a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. His career spanned more than thirty years during which he lived and worked in Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Ontario, Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Alberta. Early in his life, Dave developed a passion for aviation which he was able to pursue for the majority of his time in the Force. Before joining the RCMP Air Services, Dave saw service in General Duty and Marine Services, a career path which is rather unique. As a pilot, Dave saw almost every corner of the country from urban to remote and, in the process, rose through the ranks. Ultimately, he was promoted to the rank of Superintendent and was the Officer In charge of Air Services in Ottawa until his retirement.
After retiring to Frenchman's Cove, Dave became an integral part of the local shooting community. He was a long time member of the Northwest Arm Rod and Gun club and spent eleven years as its president. He oversaw many improvements in the gun club during this time and recently the club house was named in his honour. He enjoyed trap, sporting clays, and target shooting, and was next to impossible to beat on the target range. He enjoyed hunting with his many friends across the country, and had a wealth of knowledge about outdoor life and life in general.
Dave was also an avid reader. He was a lover of realistic fiction in particular. This drew him to volunteering on the Garnish Library board in 2010, and became Chairperson in 2012 until resigning due to illness this year. Through appealing to regional government, fundraising efforts and the librarian, the tiny community library is still open. Dave's designer homemade bird houses were a much sought after door prize at the Bakeapple Festival Tea Parties.
David is survived by his wife, Leah; their girls, Shannon (Gustaf) & Michelle (Miles); son, Jonathan; grandsons, Ian and Brennan; sisters, Althea (Casey) and Rosalind (William); several nieces, nephews and two great-grandsons. He is predeceased by his parents, Everett and Mary Sperry.
Special thanks to Elaine Nolan for the friendship and care she gave David, and continues to give Leah, during their health journeys.
Thank you to St. Lawrence US Memorial Health Centre. Our loved one passed with grace and dignity because of the knowledge and compassion of the whole team who cared for him, and in turn, cared for his family and friends during a sad time. God bless. In honouring David's wishes, there will not be a church service. An inurnment will be held during the spring at Frenchman's Cove, NL. In David's memory, in lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Frenchman's Cove Anglican Church Cemetery Fund. His daughter Shannon will collect donations by e-transfer to s_goldsberry@hotmail.com (or other means). Funeral Arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes, Marystown.
