Burin Peninsula Obituaries
September 2008

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

Passed peacefully away at her residence on Sunday, September 14, 2008 Vida Cheeseman of Burin in her 79th year. Leaving to mourn husband Thomas Gordon Cheeseman; daughters Donna and husband Keith Warren of CBS, Eleanor and husband Don Penney of Mount Pearl and Mary and husband Keith Lundrigan of Burin; 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Mollie Loing, Donna Brake and husband George, Theresa McGurk; brothers Heber McGurk and wife Harriet, Paul McGurk and wife Angela plus a large circle of other family and friends. Rev. Robert Peddle officiated Funeral service from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ship Cove on Thursday, September 18, 2008 with interment following at Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Hodder’s Point. Donations in her memory may be made to the Daffodil Place or flowers gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin “WE CARE.”

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Monday, September 22, 2008 Albert Cleal of Creston South in his 85th year. Leaving to mourn wife Eileen; son Junior Albert and wife Nora of Creston South; daughter Betty and husband Grant Smith of Gander; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brothers Hector and wife Mabel of Marystown, Jim and wife Millicent of Sackville, NS; sister-in-law Irene Cleal of Marystown and Marie Cleal of Lewin’s Cove plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by parents William and Elizabeth Cleal; brothers Joe, John and Gordon Cleal. Hubert F. Tucker and Rev’d Robert Peddle officiated Funeral service from Calvary United Church, Creston South on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 with interment following at Calvary United Cemetery, Creston South. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Saturday, September 27th, Charlotte Follett of Grand Bank age 84 years. Predeceased by parents Morgan and Annie Francis; sisters Eleanor and Bertha; brothers Tommy, Bennie and Earl. Leaving to mourn: Vera Follett of Grand Bank, Eleanor Hagan (Eddie) at Markham, Ontario, Mildred Bennett (Bob) of Grand Bank, Charlie Follett (Audrey) of Grand Bank, Paul Follett of St. John's, Anne Evans (Wayne) of Grand Bank, and Linda Noseworthy (Dan) of Mount Pearl; 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; brothers Reuben Francis (Hazel) of Garnish and Melvin Francis (Dorothy) of Garnish; sister Mildred Saunders of Toronto; sisters-in-law Jane and Gladys Francis of Grand Bank and Jean Francis of Markham, Ontario. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warenn's Funeral Home Grand Bank on Saturday from 2pm - 5pm (FAMILY ONLY); public viewing from 7pm - 9pm; Sunday 10am - 12noon; 2pm - 5pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Monday at 2pm from Grand Bank United Church. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery Grand Bank.
