The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BAKER, LEROY
It is with great sadness that the family of Leroy Baker of Epworth, NL announces his peaceful passing on Monday, October 28, 2024 at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center at the age of 83 years. Leaving to mourn with precious and loving memories his wife Phyllis of 60 years; son Scott (Paula); daughters Joan (John) and Anita(Jobrey); grandchildren Dustin (Gabrielle), Michelle, Kayla, Karen, Dylan (Kathleen), Darryl; great-granddaughter Emmie; sister Suzanne (Austin); brothers-in-law Nelson (Leta) & Sam; sisters-in-law Frances Collier, Edna Inkpen, Gertie Baker and many nephews and nieces plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Scott & Margaret Baker, brothers John, Carlson; sister Sylvia Moulton; parents-in-law Frank & Udavilla Inkpen, brothers-in-law Peter Collier, David Inkpen, Frank Inkpen, Donald Hodder, sisters-in-law Lorna Moulton, Joan Hodder, Rebecca Inkpen.
Leroy was a humble man with a giant heart and a gentle soul whose kindness was unmatched. He was a man of deep faith, finding strength and devotion in God throughout his life. Leroy was married to the love of his life for 60 years, they enjoyed doing many things together. He loved the nature and being outside and having quiet time reading his western novels. When he was cutting wood the bigger the tree the better or using his wood working skills on his cabin where he loved spending time with his family, going for rides with Phyllis on the four-wheeler and walking in the woods was a few of his pastime activities. He was truly in his happy place always eager to share his love for the outdoors with his family. Above all Leroy cherished his family, a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. He found great happiness in spending time with his family and sharing the simple pleasures of life.
In keeping with Leroy's wishes cremation has taken place. Family will be receiving relatives & friends from Serenity Funeral Home, Burin on Tuesday November 5, 2024 and on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM. Funeral service will be held at Serenity Chapel, Burin on Thursday November 7, 2024 at 2PM with inurnment following at the United Cemetery, Epworth. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Alvin Cluett of Garnish announces his sudden passing on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at the age of 67. Leaving to mourn are his partner, Dorothy Plante; daughters, Renee Cluett (Ray Tremblay) of Labrador City and Chanelle Alstad (Benjamin) of Edmonton, AB; son, Ryan Cluett of Labrador City; grandchildren, Brianna, Ciara, Alex, Lincoln, Gemma, Noelle and William; brothers, Jim Cluett (Jessie), Ron Cluett and Albert Cluett (Marina); sister, Betty Parsons (Harold); plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Since his retirement from Wabush Mines he moved to Garnish and became a member of the Garnish Lions Club for the past ten years. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Myra Drake of Lawn announces her passing. Myra passed away at the St. Lawrence Retirement Living in St. Lawrence on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at the age of 82. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her children, Ex (Connie) of Lawn, Joy (Paul) of Lawn, Janet (Stephen) of Abbortsford, BC, Rhonda of St. John's, Trent (Khrista) of Paradise, Tina (Lloyd) of Lawn and Natasha (Jimmy) of Lord's Cove; 16 grandchildren, Savannah, Krystle, Paula, Cassandra, Violet, Christina, Taylor, Michelle, Ryan, Jenna-Mary, Coady, Roy, MacKenzie, Chan, Adrianna and Riley; 2 great grandsons, Logan and Grayson; sisters & brothers, Phyllis, Ken (Kate), Marina (Kevin), Wayne, Clyde (Sylvia), Pearl (Henry), Lloyd, Heather, Karen (Dan) and Claudia (Darren); plus a large circle of extended family and friends. FITZPATRICK, RANDY JOSEPH
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of Randy Joseph Fitzpatrick at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Wednesday October 23rd, 2024, at the young age of 49. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Helen, daughters Cathy (Francis), Christa (Terry), Connie (Bob), Grandchildren Tristan, Matthew, Michaella, Terrance, Cameron, William, Jennifer, Great Grandchildren Emilia, Noralie, Stella, Matilda, parents Loyola and Blanche, sisters Daphne (Chris), Melissa (Ian), nieces and nephews Joshua, Allison, Tiffany, Hunter, Trevor and a large extended circle of family and friends. Predeceased by his brother Stephen Fitzpatrick, grandfather Loyola Fitzpatrick Sr, grandparents William (Will John) and Edna Slaney, mother-in-law, father-in-law Verna and Albert Brown.
Randy was a devoted and loving husband; Helen was his ray of sunshine. He was a hard-working man who had one of the biggest hearts that we have ever seen. He was the kindest man, who always put others before himself and was there to help whenever anyone needed it. He had a deep love for the open sea and fishing was his passion. He spent many years fishing with his dad and mom, and he was never happier then when he was steaming out over the horizon with the sun glistening on the water as it rose. He would often say I am in my happy place now.
When he wasn't fishing, he and Helen could be found at their cabin in Main Brook where they created many fond and cherished memories. He loved spending time with his family and friends, singing and playing his guitar, The Little Boats of Newfoundland was one of his favourite tunes. The more family and friends around the bigger his smile got. He loved his girls, grandchildren (pop), great grandchildren (pop pop), nieces, and nephews (Uncle Bub) beyond measure; especially "Pop's Boys" Tristan and Matthew who had a special place in his heart. He will be forever loved and missed.
Visitation for family on Thursday October 24, 2024 from 4-9PM from Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. Family will be receiving friends on Friday October 25, 2024 from 10AM-4PM & 6-9PM from Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. Funeral service time will be announced at a later date. FIZZARD, JOHN A.
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late John A. Fizzard of Marystown announces his passing. John passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank, NL on October 5, 2024 at the age of 75. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his brother, Wilbert (Marjorie) Fizzard of Creston North; sister, Pearl Hufffman of Trenton, ON; sister in law, Beatrice Fizzard of Garnish; his nieces, nephews and their families. A special mention to Geraldine (Albert) Brake and family, whom he loved dearly, the extended Murphy family of Parker`s Cove and all his friends at the Kinsmen Manor, Marystown. A special thanks to Ernest (Tina) Perham who was his best friend and caregiver, with whom he shared many cherished memories. John is predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Amelia (Hodder) Fizzard; brother, Philip Fizzard and brother in law, William Huffman. John had a deep love for the Toronto Blue Jays and was a devoted Montreal Canadiens fan. Music was his passion and he always had a song for every occasion. He had a knack for telling jokes and bringing laughter to others.

HAWCO, DERMOT JOHN
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Dermot John Hawco of Rushoon, NL announces his passing. Dermot passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on October 17, 2024 at the age of 78. The measure of a man is not by his wealth or his belongings but by the love he has for his family, the favours he does for his neighbour and the way he puts a hand out to one in need. It is measured by the laughter he creates in others and the work ethic in his bones. By the legacy he leaves behind in his children, grandchildren and great grand children.
Dermot John Hawco (Derm) was the true measure of a man and that is how he will be remembered by anyone who knew him. His love for the out doors was unmeasurable, from the land to the sea, animals big or small hunting was his passion! A true outdoorsmen in every sense. Known from one end of the country to the other as a master carpenter or some would say jack of all trades, the stories from his friends who could always count on him to be by their side on a home project to building houses from start to finish and his workmanship are many.

HUTCHISON, JAMES "Jim"
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late James 'Jim' Hutchison of Fox Cove-Mortier announces his passing. Jim passed away at the Health Science Centre in St. John's, NL on October 21, 2024 at the age of 69. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his beloved wife, Moria Hutchison, with whom just celebrated their royal 28th anniversary on September 28th; son, Christopher Hutchison (Aimee) and daughter, Amy Hutchison, all of Saskatchewan; grandchildren, Asher, Judah and Abigail; siblings, Helen Paquette (Donald), Shirley Samojlenko, Pauline Lamothe (Roger), Teresa Young (Rocky), Anne Daley (Lynn), Dorothy Young (Danny), Edward Hutchison (Diane), Judy Cruise (Leigh); mother-in-law, Christine McCandlish; sisters-in-law, Mari Smith, Catriona Charlie (Frank), Fiona Clark (Stuart), Grace Kinnaird; fur baby, Princess (Puss Puss); many nieces and nephews; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Jim was a truly remarkable man, known for his unlimited creativity and his infectious zest for life. His passions were as diverse as they were vibrant. Through his music, he conveyed emotions that resonated deeply with anyone who listened. His photography captured the world in ways that only he could see, and his writing was a testament to his profound understanding and appreciation of life's subtleties. Perhaps most memorable was Jim's awesome sense of humour. He had a wonderful ability to make people laugh, to lift spirits, and to find joy in the simplest of moments. His laughter was contagious, his stories superbly entertaining, and his presence a source of light and warmth. His legacy will live on in the countless memories we shared and the deep impact he made upon all who had the honour and privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to inspire us, reminding us to celebrate life with the same passion and joy that he did.

It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Hubert Keeping of Boat Harbour announces his passing. Hubert passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the age of 89. Leaving to mourn are his wife, Myrtle of 65 years; daughters, Hazel Walters (Harvey) of Boat Harbour and Marjorie Keeping (Brian) of Brookside; sons, Ricky Keeping of Boat Harbour, Kenneth Keeping (Susan) of Boat Harbour, Jerry Keeping (Tammy) of Alberta and Terry Keeping (Shelby) of Alberta; 12 grandchildren, Jason (Krista), Jeremy (Britteny), Jacqueline (Michael), Joshua (Sylvia), Justin (Dana), Janelle (Alex), Jerrica (John), Jacob, Wilson, Rory, Logan and Brittny; 14 great-grandchildren, Jordan (Lydia), Jonathan, Jay, Jesse, Jayden, Leland, Oliver, Carter, Cole, Emiy, Grace, Myra, Alora and Makayla; sisters, Myrtle Banfield of Grand Bank and Gladys Dove of Bishops Falls; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Hubert was predeceased by his son, Cecil Saunders; great-grandson, Luca Walters; parents, Marjorie & Ernest Keeping; brothers, Ernest John Keeping and John Manuel Keeping; sisters, Rose Mary Keeping and Annie Pearl Baker (Jim); and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Dove and Jim Banfield.
Hubert began his journey as a hardworking logger at a young age, laying the foundation for a remarkable career that spanned decades. Throughout his life, Hubert showcased his exceptional skills as a master carpenter and an accomplished boat builder. His expertise extended to operating heavy equipment and driving trucks, where he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His hands were always busy, creating beautiful and functional pieces that reflected his dedication to his craft. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Hubert had a profound love for music. He was a talented musician, able to play a range of instruments, with the accordion being his favourite. Music was not only a passion but a way for him to connect with those around him.
Together with his beloved wife, Myrtle, Hubert raised their children to be strong, kind-hearted individuals. Their family was a source of joy and pride, and he cherished every moment spent with them. After an industrial accident left him disabled, Hubert faced challenges with grace and resilience. Myrtle and his oldest surviving son, Ricky, became his selfless and dedicated caregivers, allowing him to remain active and creative in his pursuits. The compassion and support from all those who cared for him brought Hubert peace, comfort, and dignity in his final days. Hubert was immensely grateful for the help and support he received, particularly from his nephew, Stanley Baker, and his long-time physician, Dr. Acharya, whose dedication ensured he never felt alone.

KENWAY, LORNE
Lorne Kenway
...the man...the myth...the legend, with a heart of gold. After a short battle with illness, the family of the late Lorne Kenway announces his passing on October 23, 2024 at the age of 89. Lorne passed peacefully away at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 53 years, June. His brother Chris (Karen), who was like a son; stepdaughter Lori; grandson TJ (Chantal) and great-grandson Logan. Siblings: Nellie (Herb); Melvin (Marie) and Joan. In-laws: Mabel; Clarissa (Ches) and John. Lorne also leaves behind a wide circle of nieces and nephews; a very close friend and berry-picking buddy, Wilson; his special care worker, Charlene (who was like a granddaughter to him); and his special pet budgie, Tweety. Predeceased by his parents Leslie and Esther; parents-in-law Matilda and John; sisters Sandra and Flora; brothers-in-law Ed, Jim, Alfred, Clyde, Tom and Frank; sisters-in-law Winnie and Sue; niece Doreen and nephew Allan.
Lorne was a loving and devoted husband, who was a caregiver for his wife, June, until his own health failed. He had a passion for berry-picking and spent hours picking bakeapples, blueberries, partridge berries and cranberries. He loved to fish and spent a lot of time on the rivers and in his younger years, in the country hunting with his brothers and friends. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the doctors and nurses at the BPHCC, and the Provincial Homecare workers for their exceptional care during Lorne's illness. Also, to Sharon Fewer for her support in making Lorne comfortable at home and honoring his final wishes. It's with great sadness, that the family of the late Miriam Jane Matthews of Grand Bank, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 1st, 2024 at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, at the age of 80. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of love and memories, are her husband of 63 years, Leonard Matthews, children Pearl, Gail (Rob), Reg (Tracey) and Jamie (Crystal); Grandchildren, Santana (Dwight), Kayla, Brittany (Brud), Katera (Johnny), Danette (Mark) and Aaron (Emma); Great grandchildren Hailey, Kylie, Kate, Liv and Isla; sisters Almeda (Ugene), Alice, Phyllis and Brenda (Mike) plus a large circle of family and friends. Miriam was predeceased by her parents Pearl and Thomas Hiscock, step mother Greta Hiscock, brother David Hiscock; and special friends Joan and John Foote.

MELENDY, JOYCE
With broken hearts we announce the passing of our dear sweet mother, Joyce Melendy at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank at the age of 90 years on October 11, 2024. Predeceased by her husband, Clarence (2010); grandson, Jason Masters (2003); and son-in-law, Keith Thorne (2006). Our mother was the epitome of goodness, kindness, grace & faith. She loved her family profoundly & she so loved to hear the words "Mom, we're coming home, be there soon"
She will be dearly missed by her children, John Melendy (Susan), Terry Melendy (Frances), Wayne Melendy (Ruby), Marilyn Masters (Bruce), Sandra Waterfield (Gordon). She was a loving Nan to her 14 grandchildren & 16 great-grandchildren. Very special nieces, who were a gift to her, Cherry Hounsell, Daphne Collins & Doreen Feltham; many extended family members who were dear to her heart. Also, numerous loved friends, whom she adored.

Passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 91, Thomas James Rose of Grand Bank. Leaving with fond memories his loving wife of 65 years Maxine. His daughter; Stephanie and son-in-law; Gary Dyer, grandchildren; Patrick (Susan) and Rebecca (Jorden), sisters; Lily Bartlett and Winnie Purdy, brother-in-law; Eli Patten and "sister-in-law"; Anne (Keith). Many nieces, nephews and other extended family & friends. Predeceased by his parents William and Tryphena Rose. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. SAUNDERS, WINSTON
It is with much sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Winston Saunders at the Blue Crest Interfaith Home, Grand Bank on Sunday October 6, 2024 at the age of 65 years. He leaves to mourn his sons Charles (Frances), John (Terri); stepson Kevin Strowbridge; special granddaughter Tamara; brothers Cyril (Greta), Sam (Martha), sisters Viola Smith (Austin), Cynthia Clarke, brother-in-law Arch Penny (Louise), sisters-in-law Audrey Penny, Lorraine Saunders and a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by wife Shirley, parents Mary & John, parents-in-law Charles & Marion, brothers Baxter, Arthur ( Brenda), sister Jessie Smith, brothers-in-law Shawn Penny, Jim Penny (Yvonne).
Winston married Shirley in 1980 they had two wonderful sons Charles and John. Shirley passed away in 1995 and Winston was left to raise his sons on his own. He was both mom and dad to his boys. His love for his granddaughter was tremendous he loved her with his whole heart. She was his sunshine. Winston provided a good life for his boys and loved life. He was a lover of the outdoors, fishing or hunting was where he loved to be. He suffered a terrible brain trauma accident in 2018 that he never fully recovered so he spent his remaining days at Blue Crest Retirement Center. He will be forever remembered and loved. He leaves behind a legacy of love. Finally, he is reunited with the love of his life Shirley.. Together forever. Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 from Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. In keeping with Winston's wishes, cremation will follow the visitation on Wednesday October 9, 2024. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family. Leaving to mourn with precious and loving memories sons Sandy (Frances) of Lewin's Cove, David of Ontario; Dorothy Davis (David) of Ontario, Phyllis Cotterhill (Ken) of Alberta; sister Gwen Hollett of Epworth; 4 grandchildren Jamie (Gina), Jennifer, Amanda, Daniel; 8 great-grandchildren Dana, Alex, Liam, Jayden, Jessica, Jaxon, Morgan, Greyson; homecare workers Alvina Noseworthy, Bertha Withers, Linda White also a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by husband Harvey, siblings Rebecca Foote, Oliver Parsons, Viola Hollett, Whelman Parsons, Dorothy Porter, John Lou Parsons, Jessie Stone.
Mom's Life: Born on June 18, 1940 to James & Lillian Parsons. She was working in Argentia and met the love of her life Harvey. They were married December 9, 1958, she has 4 children Dorothy, Phyllis, Sandy & David, 4 grandchildren Jamie (Gina), Jennifer, Amanda, Daniel and 8 great-grandchildren Dana, Alex, Liam, Jayden, Jessica, Jaxon, Morgan, Greyson whom she cherished. She dedicated most of her life as a caregiver and mother.
She and Harvey spend many years at their cabin up in Fresh Pond making lots of beautiful memories. There was always food to share and she was an amazing cook. She loved to fish in her little dory and she had a passion for quilting, sewing and hooking mats. Unfortunately she lost her husband Harvey to dementia December 1, 2015 and now she is gone to be with him. Forever loved and missed.
Family will be receiving friends at Serenity Funeral Home Burin on Monday October 21. 2024 from 10AM-2PM and 4PM-9PM. A celebration of life funeral service will be held on Tuesday October 22, 2024 at 11AM from Serenity Chapel, Burin with interment following at Hope United Cemetery, Lewin's Cove.
