GRANDY, LAURA
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Laura Grandy at the age of 101. Ever meet a woman who's truly strong and been through it all? Let me paint you a picture of her world. She found comfort in her own company and enjoyed her meals in solitude, didn't need a crowd to feel complete. This woman entertained herself, she was self-sufficient and selective about where she invested her energy. Aware of her worth, she carried an air of strength that will be missed. Forged through strength, pain and trials, she learned to value herself deeply. She knew what she brought to the table. If she opened the door of life to you, know it was a sign of trust and respect. She didn't look for completion, she was complete on her own. If you were lucky enough to be in her presence, don't take it lightly, respect her independence, mirror her energy. She was like a teabag, her true strength came out in the hot water. Encountering such a woman was a privilege. Cherish her strength, respect her space and most important to celebrate her resilience and strengths in her life.
Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her children, Fred Grandy, Beverley Freeborn (Aubrey), Garry Grandy (Jean) and Ross Grandy (Lisa); grandchildren, Rhonda, Lisa, Jackie, Tom, Allison, Albert, Junior, Michelle, Duane, Roben, Alexandria, Kristina and their spouses; large number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; staff and family members of the Marystown Retirement Centre; church family of the Faith & Hope Corps and Grand Bank Salvation Army; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Laura was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Grandy; daughter, Shirley Murphy (Arthur); parents, William & Matilda Moulton; daughter-in-law, Viola Cluett Grandy; and siblings, Victor Moulton (Janet) and Shirley Taylor (Clarence).
The Grandy Family will be accepting visitors at Wiseman's Funeral Homes, Grand Bank on Wednesday, November 6th, 2pm - 4pm, 7pm - 9pm. Thursday, November 7th, 2pm - 4pm, 7pm - 9pm. MOULTON, MARY M.
After 97 1/2 years Mom has reached her eternal resting place. 2 Corinthians: 5:8.. Absent from the body to be present with the Lord." Mary M Moulton of Burin Bay passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Saturday November 16, 2024. Devoted wife of 53 years to the late Frank Moulton. Forever remembered by her loving daughter Karen and husband Peter Newton of Sault Ste Marie, ON and sons Derek and Irving. Caring grandmother and great grandmother to Michael (Heather, Matthew and Ella) of Ottawa, ON and Dwight (Suzette and Alexander) of Mississauga, ON. She leaves behind wonderful family friends who helped Mary continue to stay in her home until 97. Pearl Adams (late Winston Hollett), Judy and Freeman Collins, Cyril and Dianne Beasley and Agnes and Winston Pitcher plus a large circle of family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her husband Frank, infant son and brothers George and Joseph.
Mary was the first born to Theresa (Dunne) and James Crews of Point Crewe, NL. She was followed by George (d.2023) and Joseph (d.1949). Mom was educated in a one room school and moved to Burin to begin her nursing aid training at the cottage hospital. She truly loved being a nurse and the highlight was attending the birth of the Edward's triplets in 1947. Mary met Frank and they married on June 12, 1951. She stayed at home to raise her family. She became involved in her church and held the fort as Frank travelled for his work. Their happiest years or golden years were enjoying their cabin on Old Mill Road.
Tragically, after Frank retired he suffered two devastating strokes and her nursing skills were once again put into action to help Frank. She was an amazing wife and caregiver for the remaining 12 years. Driving them to places, meeting new friends and travelling to Ontario. After Frank's passing it was time for Mom to do the things she had more time for. Longer visits to Sault Ste Marie meant extensive shopping trips with Karen and making new friends. She was delighted in attending her two grandsons university graduations and weddings. Celebrating her 90th birthday just as her youngest grandson was getting married. She loved to dress up! Her circle was complete this Thanksgiving when she met her youngest great grandson, Alexander. Four generations complete. A life truly well lived.Rest in heavenly peace.
The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nursing staff on Medicine and the other health professionals especially the SLP. Your care to Mary and kindness shown to her and her family are so greatly appreciated. Also, to her part homecare workers and to the exceptional staff at Marystown Retirement Center where Mary lived since April. She loved every day spent there.

Mom was a woman of quiet strength and deep love, and she had an unwavering commitment to those who meant the most to her. Her determination and resilience gave her the courage to persevere despite her health battles. What truly defined mom was her love for family and her ability to find joy in life's simple pleasures. One of mom's greatest joys was becoming a grandmother to her beloved grand daughter, Maggie. Watching her grow up and sharing in all her life's activities created some of the happiest moments of mom's life. Sharing a special bond with Maggie filled her with immense pride and joy.
Though mom was a soft-spoken woman, her presence spoke volumes. Her gentleness, humility and kindness made her a friend to many. She always enjoyed the company of her friends whether it was playing bingo or a good game of cards. She found happiness in her and I watching her favourite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, play on Saturday nights.
Mom's compassionate nature was not only evident in how she treated others, but also in how much she loved animals. My world as I knew it, has ceased to exist and life as I know it, will never be the same. She was my world and taking care of her was my greatest honour. I was her protector and guardian and I so wish I could still wrap her in my arms. Although mom is no longer with us physically, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. We will miss her deeply, but will find comfort in knowing that she will forever remain a part of us. She is loved beyond measure and will never be forgotten.
There will be a Family viewing Friday Night from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM. Family will be receiving friends on Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-4:00PM and 7:00-9:00PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday December 2, 2024 at 11:00 AM from Sacred Heart RC Church Marystown with interment to follow at Sacred Heart RC Cemetery, Fox Cove. Donations in Margaret's memory may be made to the Mortier-Fox Cove Community Centre or the Burin SPCA, which was near to Margaret's heart or flowers gratefully accepted. The family would like to thank the wonderful and kind nurses of the medicine floor who treated mom with so much dignity and respect and took so much gentle care with her. A special thank you to the social workers, occupational and speech therapist, who helped to make certain that mom was so well taken care of. I could not have wished for any better. A very special thank you to Dr. Fitzpatrick, Dr. McCarthy, Dr. Tarasov and Dr. Le, who did everything they could for both mom and us throughout her last few months. The compassion, respect, and kindness shown has meant so much to our family. Arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home. We listen, we learn, we walk with you.
