BUFFETT, WILFRED BRUCE
(1937-2016)
Passed peacefully away on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Blue Crest Home in Grand Bank, the hometown he loved, WILFRED BRUCE BUFFETT, in his 80 year. Leaving beautiful memories to his loving wife of 57 years, Judy (Pike), daughters Shelley and Jeanne (John Brookbank), cherished grandchildren Bruce (Leah) and Niki as well as Tyler, Brandon and Paige Brookbank and great grandchildren Kevicia, Maleah, and Malik. Bruce treasured the love of brothers George (Mary Lou), Tom (Karin), Al (Elsie), Bill (Lil), and sister/friend Bea (Allan) Stoodley, and Peggy (Dave) Bradbury as well as very dearly loved and cherished nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Wilfred Marcus Buffett and Sybil Eloise (Hollett) and great grandson, Marcus Joshua Buffett as well as sister-in-law 'Abigail Elaine' Piercey. Bruce was privileged to have many dear and wonderful friends and relatives bless his lifetime. Bruce was the managing director of Buffett's Clothing Store in Grand Bank from 1955 until 1984. He lived life to the fullest. Whether he was serving the community through his involvement in the Lions Club and the town council, playing soccer as a proud GeeBee, taking part in diving adventures with the scuba club, hunting, fishing, or teaching the kids to waterski on his beloved Stern Pond, Bruce brought energy and humour to all his pursuits. In 1984, his health took a turn. Against the odds, Bruce survived to enjoy a quieter lifestyle until his passing. He will forever bring a smile to the faces of those whose lives he touched. The Buffett Family will be accepting visitors at Wiseman's Funeral Home in Grand Bank on Tuesday, November 22, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at the United Church in Grand Bank on Wednesday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow at the United Church Cemetery in Grand Bank. BURKE, Henry Sr.
It is with great sadness that the family of Henry Burke Sr. of Little St. Lawrence announces his passing at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on November 2, 2016 at the age of 75 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Maud; children Antony Burke of Little St. Lawrence, Henrietta Burke of Little St. Lawrence, Gertrude Ann Burke of Little St. Lawrence, Linda Moulton (John) of Cambridge,ON, Henry Burke (Elaine) of Little St. Lawrence, Margaret Rideout (Jamie) of Garnish and Paula Tarrant of Grand Bank; grandchildren Brandon Burke, Katelynn Rideout, Gavin Burke, Connor Rideout and Liam Moulton; brother John Burke (Bridget) plus a large circle of other family and friends. Passed peacefully away at Grand Bank Health Care Centre, Grand Bank, NL, on Friday, Nov. 04, 2016, MICHAEL JAMES COOMBS, of Terrenceville, NL, in his 77th year. Leaving to mourn his special nephew Earl McCarthy (Sheila), Medicine Hat, AB, and niece Pauline Dominaux (Ches), Medicine Hat, AB., and a number of other nieces and nephews: and a large circle of other relatives and friends. EDWARDS of Lawn announces his peaceful passing after a short battle with cancer at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre in St. Lawrence on Friday, November 11th, 2016 at the age of 79. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sisters, Martha Edwards of Lawn, and Blanche Billard of Port Au Choix; brother, Andy Edwards; plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Sylvester & Ellen Mary Edwards; sisters, Susan, Evelyn, Lena & Ellen Mary; and brothers, Urvin, Peter, Sylvester & Christopher. GRANDY, Helen Barbara
age 79 of Halifax passed away on November 3, 2016 at Northwood Center, Halifax. She was one of 12 children born to the late Sydney Leone and Priscilla (Smith) Walker. Helen is survived by her siblings; Elizabeth Martin, Dorothy Isaacs (George), Harold Walker (Joan Bower), Donald Walker (Dale), Robert Walker (Karen) and Gladys Moore (Ken) as well as her God children, Jason, Sharon and Tracy. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert Grandy of Garnish, Fortune Bay, NL and her siblings; Ella Hennigar, Douglas Walker, Jean Jack, Sydney L. Walker and Roy Walker. Helen worked for Dominion Stores in Halifax then operated a Texaco station with her husband, Albert in Timberlea. She purchased and operated Siesta Motel in Digby which she retired due to Albert's ill health. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home. Helen's family will have a private committal beside her late husband in Garnish, NL.

GRANDY, Lewis
(April 27, 1922 - November 11, 2016)

94 of Halifax passed away peacefully on November 11, 2016 at Camphill Memorial after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers. Lewis was born April 27, 1922 in Garnish Newfoundland to the late Clifford and Alice Grandy and was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Upon discharge from the Army, Lewis was a proud graduate of culinary school in Antigonish. After graduation, he he worked at various locations, but, was proud of the time he spent working at the Carleton and Lord Nelson hotels in Halifax. He also worked for DND retiring in 1987. Lewis was a proud Newfoundlander and although he moved to Halifax, his heart always remained at home in Garnish. He loved playing golf with his friends and family and was an avid walker. Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Phyllis (Meade); son, Brian (Gloria); daughter, Cindy (Hughie); grandchildren, Neil (Stephanie), Bradley (Cara), Leigh-Ann (Ian); step grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Morrison; great grandchildren, Claire, Fraser and Evan, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins. Lewis was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Sharon; granddaughter, Nicole; sisters, Molly, Prudy; brothers, Norm and Enos. The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to all the staff at 6 west Camphill Memorial. The comfort and care that you provided to Lewis will always be remembered. Cremation has taken place under the care of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Road, Halifax. In keeping with Lewis' wishes there will be no visitation. INKPEN, EUGENE RUSSELL
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Eugene Russell Inkpen, of Lewin's Cove, announces his death on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the Burin Peninsula Hospital at the age of 75 years after a year long battle with cancer. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 48 years Sharon (Oliver), sons Todd (Michelle Johnson), St. John's; Brad (Michlyn), Casselman, Ont; daughters Tracey (Tom Pouch), Embrun, Ont; Doris (Terry) Clarke, Hants Harbour. Grandchildren Trent (Laura) Clarke, Travis Clarke (Megan Pynn), Travis Inkpen (Angela Sutherland), Zachary, Emma, Caitlyn, and Raina Inkpen, and Rachel and Hannah Pouch; step-grandsons James and Eric Johnson, and great-granddaughter Ava Clarke. Also left to mourn are brothers Arnold (Valetta,) Grand Beach; Bill, Winterland; Roy, Tumbler Ridge, BC, Fraser (Elaine), Kingston, Ont.; Earl, Burin; sisters Sue (Alvin) Powell, Lethbridge, NL; Ella Appleby, Burin; sisters-in-law Mary Inkpen, Dorothy Inkpen, and Linda Marcoux. Also mourning their only brother-in-law the Oliver family of Cape Breton, N.S.; Bart (Bernadette), Cyril (Becky), Wayne (Ethel), Cotter (Margie), Dwight (Nadine), Jack (Flo), Brad (Coleen), and sister-in-law Michele Oliver. Numerous nieces & nephews from the Inkpen and Oliver families will miss their Uncle Russ. Predeceased by infant grandson Ben Pouch; parents Leonard and Reta Inkpen; stepmother Grace Inkpen; parents-in-law John and Margaret Oliver; brother-in-law Jerry Appleby; sisters-in-law Shirley Inkpen and Ada Inkpen; and nephews Jason Inkpen and Adrian Oliver.
Russ served in the Canadian Armed Forces for twenty years, retiring in 1981 with the rank of Sergeant. Upon returning to his hometown of Lewin's Cove, he was employed as security at the Marystown Shipyard and Cowhead facilities from which he retired in 2004. Both before and following his retirement he took great pleasure in working on his land. Russ was a lifelong lover of the outdoors and cherished the hours spent with family and friends hunting and fishing. He was also a great curling fan, particularly in his later years, travelling to many events with his co-fans Sharon and Marilyn. As per Russ's request, there will be no wake or funeral service. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are invited to a reception to celebrate his life at the Lewin's Cove Community Centre from 2:00 - 4:00 on Monday, November 21, 2016. Passed away suddenly at Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin, NL, on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, LESTER BOYD STONE, of Creston South, NL, in his 66th year. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Elizabeth of 48 years, Daughter Yvonne Clements (Paul Sawyer), Owen Sound, ON, 3 precious grandchildren Noah and Colby Power and Mitchell Clements; son in law Eric Power, Barrie, ON,; brothers Jerry (Peggy), Lewins Cove, Alfred, Lewins Cove, Randy, St. Lawrence, Nick, Brooks, AB, sisters Geri Stone (Leo), Richmond Hill, ON, Wanda Farrell (Aubrey), St. Lawrence, Audrey Stone , Lewins Cove, Laura Candow (Rev. Brian), Gander, brothers in law Wallace Withers, Creston South, George Withers (Pauline), Portugal Cove, sister in law Ann Wagg, Lewins Cove; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Lester is predeceased by his daughter Karen Ann, parents Boyd and Jessie Stone, brothers Whelman and John Lewis, Parents in law Nicholas and Mary Withers, brothers in law William and John Withers and Keith Wagg, and a very special aunt Bertha Stone. Resting at Peninsula Funeral Home, on Friday, Nov. 11, from 1 pm - 9 pm, and Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 am - noon. Entered into her eternal rest in the presence of her family on Friday, November 11, 2016, Rita Pearl Strowbridge, in her 97th year. Leaving to celebrate her wonderful life are her loving sons, Charlie (Clara) and Jim (Edie), as well as 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Rita is predeceased by her husband Tom, parents John and Annie Monk, brothers Donald, Jack, Tom, and Charles Monk, and sisters Hattie and Laura Maye. A special thanks to the staff of the Blue Crest Interfaith Home in Grand Bank, NL, for providing care for her in her final days. It is with great sadness that the family of the late MARTIN WALSH of Lloydminster, AB, formerly of Lawn, announces his passing at his home in Lloydminster on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the age of 53. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his mother, Anita Edwards of Lawn; daughter, Kelsey Walsh (Josh Grassl) of Lloydminster, AB, and her sister Makenna Ryan of Lloydminister, AB; sisters, Barbara Webber (Leroy) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Lucy Slaney (Alex) of St. Lawrence and Beth Rice of Flin Flon, MB; brothers, Patrick Walsh (Colleen) of Oshawa, ON and John Walsh (Nancy) of Barrie, ON; plus a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his dad, Martin Walsh; step-father, Charlie Edwards; brothers, Alfred Walsh and James Walsh. Cremation has taken place.
