Burin Peninsula Obituaries
November 2012

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BRAKE, WILLIAM J. (BILL)
1941-2012

It is with great sadness that the family of the late BILL BRAKE of Marystown, NL announces his passing at his home in Marystown on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the age of 71. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Alice of 47 years; 1 son Ernie (Dawn) of Paradise; 1 daughter Donna (Randy) Brockerville of Marystown; 5 grandchildren - Hilary, Michael, Owen, Liam and Drew; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by parents Ernest and Sarah Brake, sister Sadie Ballard, brother-in-law Bill Ballard and special cousin Sister Margaret Rose. Resting and visitation to take place from Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Marystown on Thursday, November 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, November 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Marystown on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Cemetery in Marystown. It is with great sadness that the family of the late KENNETH ALLEN BUNGAY of Fortune, NL announces his passing at the Health Science Centre in St. John's on Monday, November 26, 2012 at the age of 67. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Gladys of 47 years; 3 sons - Thomas (Vanessa) of Grand Bank, Kenneth Darren of Fortune and Jason of St. John's; 2 daughters - Ada (Dave) Warren of Grand Bank and Janine Bungay (B.J. Roberts) of Fortune; 4 sisters - Elizabeth (Mario) McGraw of Grande Prairie, AB, Una (Ken) Stacey of Point May, Emily (Jo) McCuthan of Grande Prairie, AB, Lillian (George) Keeping of Grand Bank; 2 brothers - Harry Bungay of Fortune and David Bungay of Fortune; 5 grandchildren - Tara (Todd) Mavin, Nigel (Chelsea) Warren, Zander, Caleb and Danta; 2 great-grandchildren - Nicole and Natalie Mavin; plus a large circle of family and friends. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin, NL, on Wednesday, November 7, 2012, MELVIN WESLEY CLARKE of Creston South, NL, in his 70th year. Leaving to mourn his loving brothers Walter (Alene), Creston South, Harvey (Betty), Creston South, Austin (Rose), Creston South, Les (Debbie) Creston South, Sam, Creston South, Merrill (Audrey), Creston South, sisters Greta Beck (Winston), Ajax, ON, Judy Hotton (Bruce), Lewin's Cove, Ruby Crocker (Calvin), Ottawa, ON; special uncle Almer Hodder, Creston South; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Melvin is predeceased by his parents Stephen and Rebecca Clarke. Resting at the Peninsula Funeral Home, Creston South, on Wednesday, November 7th, 7 - 9 PM, Thursday, November 8th, 10 AM - 9 PM. HARTSON Sr., Mary
(May 13, 1921 - November 18, 2012)

It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Hartson Sr. of Salt Pond announces her passing on November 18, 2012, at the Blue Crest Interfaith Home, Grand Bank at the age of 91 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories son James (Mary) ; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 Great Great Grandchild plus a large circle of other family friends. Predeceased by daughter Daphne Hiscock; son-in-law Arch Hiscock; son William; parents William and Francis; brothers James and Pius and sisters Mary Ellen and Sarah. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin today from 2-9 PM , Tuesday from 10 AM to 9 PM. Funeral Mass to take place from St. Patrick's RC Church, Burin on Wednesday, November 21st at a time to be announced with interment following at RC Cemetery, Salt Pond. KEARLEY, Helen Melita
(July 27, 1927 - November 30, 2012)

It is with great sadness the family of the late Helen Melita Kearley of Terrenceville announces her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on November 30, 2012 at the age of 85. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons Randell (Rita) of AB, Thomas (Maureen) of Terrenceville, Aloyuisis (Gloria) of Terrenceville, Stan (Julie) of Terrenceville, Eric (Coreena) of Swift Current and Jim (Claudia) of Harbour Brenton; daughters Christine Hunt of NS, Joyce Edwards (Lud) of NS and Mary Kearley (Carl) of Terrenceville; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother Henry Lavhey (Catherine) plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by husband Randell; son in law Roger; brother John Joe and sisters Marion and Mary Jane. Resting at RC Church, Terrenceville at 2 PM Saturday, December 1 and all day Sunday. Passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank, on Wednesday, November 28, 2012, Montford Piercey of Grand Bank, age 90 years. Predeceased by parents: William and Carolyn Piercey, adopted parents: James and Minnie Piercey, brothers: Wilson, Bill and Frank, sisters: Rosie and Carrie. Leaving to mourn: loving wife of 64 years Georgina (Parsons), daughters: Carolyn Veerassamy (Raj), Glenda Piercey( Pat Cleary), son Jim Piercey (Gertie), grandchildren: Ranee Veerassamy (James Wilson), Krishnan Veerassamy, Alex Dawe, Hilary Dawe, Philip Piercey and Susan Piercey, great grandchildren: Jadra and Gitanjali Wilson, brothers: Jim and John, sisters: Mary, Esther and Ruby. Also a large circle of nephews, nieces, and other relatives and friends. Passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank on Monday, November 19, 2012, Susie Walters of Grand Bank, age 63 years. Predeceased by parents Richard & Susie Newport, sister Mahala, brothers Frankie, Obediah and Reuben; sons Frank and Craig. Leaving to mourn: husband William Almer; daughters Judy (Philip) at Saskatoon, Donna (Weldon) at Lower Island Cove, son Adrian (Troy) at Calgary; sisters Meta (Tom) Cumben, Julia (Jacob) Lee, Edna (Ernest) Drake, Phyllis (Ray) Walsh,brother Lorne (Anne); 7 grandchildren, Joshua, Andrew, Mahala, William, Jonathan, Noah and Kali; also her dear best friends Bernice and Everett Forsey. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Monday from 7 pm - 9 pm for FAMILY ONLY. Then on Tuesday from 10 am - 12 pm; 2 pm - 4 pm. Tuesday evening from 7 pm - 9 pm for children and grandchildren only. Then on Wednesday for public visitation from 10 am - 12 pm; 2 pm - 4 pm; 7 pm - 9 pm. Funeral Service will take place from the Salvation Army Citadel at 2 pm on Thursday. Interment to follow at Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory to Salvation Cemetery Fund.
