Burin Peninsula Obituaries
November 2011

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

HILLIER, Maud
(April 20, 1932 - November 8, 2011)

Passed peacefully away at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, Maud Hillier of Grand Bank, age 79 years. Predeceased by parents Philip & Clara Price; husband Angus,sisters Eileen & Lydia, brothers Stewart & Phonce, daughter-in-law Ann Hillier, brother-in-law Theodore Snook. Leaving to mourn: sons Sam Hillier, Angus Hillier (Clara), Perry Hillier; daughters Sadie Baker (Reginald), Doreen Baker (Alvin), Helen Baker (Glen), Alvina Hillier (Bruce); sisters Clara Snook, Joyce Cooper (Bill), Georgina Billard (Mike); 15 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Thursday & Friday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm; Funeral service will take place on Saturday at 2pm from St. Albans Anglican Church, Grand Bank. Interment to follow at St. Albans Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory may be made to St. Albans Anglican Cemetery Fund, Grand Bank. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

HODGE, Prosper
(March 19, 1940 - November 4, 2011
Passed peacefully away at St.Patrick's Mercey Home, St. John's, on Friday, November 4, 2011 Prosper Hodge of Lord's Cove in his 72nd year. Predeceased by parents James & Winnifred Hodge: brother Maurice, 3 brother-in laws, Leo Pace, Patrick Tarrant, & Joseph Edwards. Leaving to mourn: One brother John Hodge (Violet) of Mount Pearl. 6 sisters Cecilia (Stu) Sheppard of St. John's, Anne (Tom) Kirby of Lord's Cove, Winnifred Pace of Ottawa, Lucy Edwards of Halifax, Veronica Tarrant of Marystown, Priscilla Tarrant (Otto) of Lawn. Also a large circle of other relatives & friends. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 11th from 10am - 2pm at St. Elizabeth's Church, Lord's Cove where Memorial Mass will take place. Inurnment will follow at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Lord's Cove. No flowers by request. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

KEEPING, Mary
(September 29, 1945 - November 13, 2011)
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Sunday, November 13, 2011, Mary Keeping of Grand Bank, age 66 years. Predeceased by parents Edward & Roseanne Howse, grandparents Charles & Sarah Bullen, and sister Aggie. Leaving to mourn: husband Edwin, daughter Rosemary (Wallace) Halleran at Grand Bank, son Eddie at Garnish, sisters Jessie Savoury at Grand Bank, Gladys (Jim) Warren at Cape Ray, Carson (Len) at Pickering, Ont., brothers John (Joanne) Howse at Grand Bank,& Charles at Gaultois; Grandchildren Ashley, Alicia, Madison & Mackenzie. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home on Sunday from 7PM - 9PM.(FAMILY ONLY). Public visitation on Monday & Tuesday from 10AM - 12PM; 2PM - 4PM; 7PM - 9PM. Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, November 16th at 2pm from St. Albans Anglican Church, Grand Bank. Interment to follow at St. Albans Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory to the Family toward Funeral Expenses will be gratefully accepted. PIKE, BRIDGET MARY
1920-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late BRIDGET MARY PIKE of Spanish Room, announces her passing at The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Monday November 7, 2011 at the age of 90. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Sons Nish (friend Sarah) of Spanish Room, Bern (friend Patricia) of Salmonier, Joe (Martha) of Spanish Room, Bob (Jane) of Mooring Cove, and John of Spanish Room; Daughter Laura (friend Jerry Power) of Burin; Sisters Marion Dober (Thomas) of Spanish Room, and Loretta Ortiz (Armando) of Texas; Brother Joe Coady (Helen) of St. John's; 6 Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by husband Robert (1969), sisters Lucy Brown and Mary Hanrahan, and brothers Ignatius and John Tom. Resting and Visitation to take place at Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Marystown on Tuesday November 8th from 10am - 9pm. Funeral Mass will take place on Wednesday November 9, 2011 at 10:30pm from Sacred Heart RC Church in Marystown. Interment to follow at St. John Bosco RC Cemetery in Spanish Room. Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Tuesday, November 1, 2011, William A. Pittman of Grand Bank, age 70 years. Predeceased by parents Albert & Margaret Pittman. Leaving to mourn: brothers, Ian (Patsy) & Keith (Louise), nephews Sheldon & Kristin, Gregory (Theresa) Emily & Elaina; nieces Lori (Johnathan) Logan & Max, and Dianne. It is with great sadness that the family of the late LYDIA STEWART of Jacques Fountaine, announces her passing at Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on Tuesday November 8, 2011 at the age of 90. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Sons Charley Barnes (Marcie) of Labrador, Edwin Stewart (Anne) of Petite De Grau, Clarence Stewart (Josephine) of Jacques Fountaine, Bill Stewart of Labrador, Leo Stewart (Shirley) of Bay L'Argent, and Eric Stewart of Medicine Hat, AB.; Daughters Hilda (Stan Drake) of Chester, NS., Verena (Gus Fanning) of Colinet, Carrie (Bob Cliff) of Toronto, Maisie (Tom Bonnell) of Fortune, and Ida of Brandon; Sisters Emma Sexton of Bay L'Argent and Rhoda Thornhill of St. John's; Brother James Bungay (Lillian) of Bay L'Argent; Sisters-in-law Verna Bungay and Marjorie Bungay; a large number of Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by first husband Charlie Barnes, second husband Earl Stewart, Parents James and Sarah Bungay, sisters Sylvia, Frances and Alice, Brothers Max, Norman and Russell. Resting and Visitation to take place at St. Paul's Anglican Church in Jacques Fountaine on Wednesday November 9th All Day and Thursday November 10th until noon, where Funeral Service will take place on Thursday November 10, 2011 at 2:00pm. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Jacques Fountaine. In Lydia's memory, donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church-Jacques Fountaine or flowers gratefully accepted.
