The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BARTER, Melissa
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melissa Barter announces her passing at the age of 30 after courageously fighting metastatic breast cancer.
Melissa grew up in Grand Bank, NL and graduated from John Burke High School in 2008. She went on to complete Medical Office Administration in St. John's, NL where she lived for ten years before moving back to her hometown of Grand Bank in 2019. Melissa will forever be remembered by her husband and best friend, Christopher Barter, and their greatest joy in life, daughter Alexa; parents, Sheldon and Lisa Trimm; parents-in-law, Hughie and Marie Barter; brothers-in-law, Paul Barter (Angela Newport) and Shawn Barter (Tatum Barter); grandparents, Stanley & Phoebe Trimm and Robert & Margaret Henebury; nieces, Taylor Barter and Finley Barter; and a wide circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Melissa wanted to thank her wonderful medical team, including Dr. Kara Laing at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre, Dr. Donna Rowlands and the nurses at the Chemotherapy Unit at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for their treatment, compassion and friendship during her illness. Private visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Wiseman's Funeral Home in Grand Bank for family and close friends. As per COVID 19 regulations, only 20 people can be in the funeral home at a time and everyone is asked to sign the contact tracing sheet upon entering the building and masks are required. Please note that there is no food or beverages permitted in the funeral home during COVID. There will be no funeral service as per Melissa's wishes. Cremation to follow. BECK, Shirely
It is with great sadness the family of Shirley Beck of Burin announces her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on May 29, 2021 at the age of 81 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her son Tony Beck (Jackie) of NS; daughter Verlie Smith (William) of Burin; special friend Edgar Fancey; grandchildren Holly Labour (Peter) of Lewin's Cove and Robert (Nicole) of NS; great grandchilden Peter John, Jackson and Savannah; brother Eleazer Martin; her kindred friend Judi Peddle plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by husband Chesley; 3 brothers and 5 sisters. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home on Monday and Tuesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Funeral service to take place from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ship Cove on Wednesday, June 2nd at 2PM with interment following at Anglican Cemetery, Hodder's Point. Anyone wishing to attend the funeral please notify the family. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory can be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ship Cove. Shirley was devoted to her church and served as lay reader for many years. She was an active member of the ACW, lady Shriner and helped out with the breakfast program. If there was a need for help Shirley could be counted on. She had a tremendous talent in making everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her ability to carry a conversation with a complete stranger was remarkable and she always made sure to get a chuckle and laugh out of them. She loved to embroidery, reading, trouting, outdoors at the cabin, dancing and her love of laughter. Shirley had the amazing ability to bring her laughter and humor in any situation. She will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and the sound of her laugh. Also her dedication and strong faith will always be remembered. Last night as Shirley was taking her last breath the sky was lit up with the welcoming lights of heaven guiding her home. Anyone who knew and loved Shirley will be certain that she entered through the gates of heaven with a big smile on her face knowing that she left a beautiful sunset for her family. Her love and care for her family was there even as she was leaving them. Her last gift to them was the beautiful sunset which she knew would give them comfort and peace.

BRENTON, Dave
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Brenton of Marystown on May 21, 2021 at the age of 69.
Left with loving memories are his beloved wife of 46 years Anne (Singleton), and his three beautiful children Angie (Darren Murphy), Richard (Kim) and Margaret (Kris Dickson) and his son-in-law Jeff Burke. Dave was an adoring poppy to his six grandchildren Anna, Patrick, Vincent, Liam, Jack and Leo. Dave also leaves behind his brothers Gary (Barbara Ann), Kevin (Bernice), Bob (Violet) and Jerry (Leona), his sister Kathleen (Pitsy) (Randy Martin), brother-in-law Paul Greene and all of the Singleton Family; Rudy (Alma), Lucille (Gordon Gambin), Rick (Donna), Theresa (Dave Greene), Mike (Gail), Ab (Mary), Pat (Joanne), Mary Singleton (Peter Devereaux) and Bernice (Greg Nolan). Dave will also be lovingly missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins and his wide circle of friends.
Dave is predeceased by his parents Vincent and Kathleen Brenton, his sister Donna (Elaine) Brenton and his parents-in-law Richard and Clo Singleton.
Dave will be remembered as a dedicated educator of over 30 years, a tireless volunteer in the local community, an accomplished athlete, and a builder of sport at both the local and provincial level. Dave loved his home town. Those who were fortunate enough to know Dave loved his sense of humor, his ability to make everyone around him feel welcomed and his special gift of putting people at ease. The door was always open at "North Side Dave's".

CHEESEMAN, Ella Mary
Ella Mary Cheeseman
, 87, passed on May 9, 2021 after a brief illness at G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital, Clarenville . Mom, Nan, Aunt Ellie is survived by her children, Lewis Cheeseman of Bridgetown, N.S., Nancy Chan (John) of Winnipeg, MB, Sister Barbara Warenchuk (Paul) of Edmonton, AB, sister in law Eleanor Stoyles of St John's, grandchildren, Kris (Melissa), Nick, Dan, Mike, and Sarah, great grandchildren Josh, Chase, Phoenix, Serenity, and Justice, and many extended family and friends. Ellie was pre deceased by her husband Reginald Cheeseman of Burin in 2006. Ellie was born December 21st, 1933 in Burgeo, NF to Ted and Netta Banfield. She was the 4th of 6 girls and 1 brother. She grew up in a large lively household in Burgeo where she attended school, spent time at the family cabin in Grandy's Brook and developed her love of dance. Ellie will be remembered as a strong petite lady with an enormous amount of energy, love of life and family. She never was one to give up a chance to dance and laugh. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and bake and always willing to share her talents. Her biggest passion besides her family was her garden. She turned her rocky coastal home into an oasis of rose bushes and blooms. She wore many hats in her 87 years: postal worker, bakery owner, seamstress, night school instructor, grocery store clerk, and in her later years a craft fair vendor selling her homemade teddy bears and children's clothes. An active member of the Anglican Women's Association and Hospital Auxiliary, Ellie never shied away from any chance to volunteer.
Ellie was a dotting grandmother and spent much time with her 5 grandchildren. She was always there to participate in their fun, and support them in their interests. Christmas packages from Nan were always an exciting time filled with extra goodies and new mitts for the winter. To all those whose lives were touch by Mom; wishing you fond memories and look forward to hearing your stories. Thanks to the Staff of Marystown Retirement Centre for all their loving care, where Mom called home for the past 11 years. A special note of thanks to Mary Lundrigan (niece) for all the support and care given to Mom over the years. Cremation has taken place and funeral services will be planned at a time when family can safely travel and celebrate Ellie's long and full life. It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Margaret Crocker of Grand Bank announces her peaceful passing at the Dr. S. Jay passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at the age of 61. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Adrian "Ed" Fitzpatrick of Marystown announces his passing. Ed passed away at the U.S Memorial Health Center in St. Lawrence on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the age of 62. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his daughters, Kayla Hertz (Greg) and Keisha Marlow (Bradley) both living in Calgary, AB; 2 grandchildren, Ethan and Emma; brothers, Richard Fitzpatrick (Brenda) of Winterland, and Jerry Fitzpatrick (Joanne) of Marystown; sisters, Dolores Aylward (Pius) of Knight's Cove, Ann Francis (Howard) of Burin, Alice Foote (Paul) of Calgary, Jean Paul (Frazer) of Marystown, Margaret Pardy (John) of Marystown, and Brenda Hodder (Terry) of St. Bernard's; brother-in-law, Terry Warren; and special friend, Mercedes Farrell of Marystown; plus a large circle of extended relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends. HISCOCK, William Thomas
It is with great sadness the family of William Thomas Hiscock of Burin Bay announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on May 30, 2021 at the age of 91 years. William known to everyone as Bill was a family man, and a kind and gentle soul. He worked at FPI for 46 years, he was caretaker of Zion United Church after his retirement and could always be counted on to have the furnace on and have the church prepared for any service. He was a choir member and served on several different church boards. He loved his grandchildren and delighted in his great grandchildren. He was a lover of all animals and loved children as they loved him as well. Bill was dedicated to the upkeep and care of Zion United Church, he took great pride in talking about the history of the church and showing everyone the beautiful craftsmanship in the building. He will be remembered for his strong faith and dedication to his family and his church. A wonderful husband and father who will forever be remembered and cherished. We will always have our memories that make us smile as we think of him. MAYO, Edwin "Ross"
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Edwin "Ross" Mayo of Creston North, NL, announces his passing at his home in Creston North, NL, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at the age of 71.
Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 48 years, Sheila, daughter Shelley Doyle (Patrick), Mount Pearl, son Todd (Karen), Burin; grandchildren Brody and Tara, sister Marie Hollett, Burin, sister in law Linda Chatman (Everett), Marystown; nieces Janice Brake (Dale), Edmonton, AB, Tina Farrell (Dwayne), New Brunswick, Uncle Abel Mayo, Creston North; his best friends Violet and Reuben Rogers, Creston South; and a large number of extended family and friends. Ross is predeceased by his parents James Joseph and Melinda Mayo, brothers Alex, Rex, and Baby Mayo; parents in law Gordon and Jenny Pardy, and brother in law Ladner Hollett. A special thank you to Public Health Nurse Lori McCarthy with Eastern Health for her care and compassion for Ross during his illness . McDONALD, Margaret Mary
Passed peacefully away on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, Margaret Mary (Giovannini) McDonald, at the age of 91 years. She was predeceased by her parents Gregory Giovannini and Ethel Pike of St. Lawrence, NL, as well as by her sisters Creusa (Sr. Mary Julian), Ethel Everson and Carmel Harvey, and her brothers Gregory, Celestine, Ferdinand, Julian, Guglielmo, Enrico and Leo. Margaret leaves with treasured and loving memories her husband of 66 years, Vincent, her sons Gerard (Jane), Paul (Lucinda) and Daniel (Kimberley), her seven grandchildren, Mark (Nour), Sarah (Andrew), Christopher (Robyn), Megan, Michael (Jillian), Melissa (Andrew), and Dougal (Erika), her sister Mary Jackman, and her cousin Blanche Slaney, as well as many nieces and nephews of the McDonald and Giovannini families. Margaret was a proud graduate of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital School of Nursing (1951), and worked at St. Clare's until her retirement in 1987. Following retirement, she volunteered for several years with the Canadian Red Cross Blood Clinic, and enjoyed travels with Vincent and the countless happy hours they spent with their grandchildren. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late SUSANNA E. SAUNDERS of Marystown announces her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the age of 72. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her husband Albert of 47 years; sons, John Saunders (Lynn) of Burin, Sidney Saunders (Yolanda) of Grand Bank, and David Saunders of Marystown; daughter, Dorothy Saunders of Stellarton, NS; mother, Frances Fewer of Marystown; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sister, Johanna Fewer of Marystown; brothers, Martin Fewer (Gail) of Rothesay, NB, Rod Fewer of Burin, Robert Fewer of Quebec, and Kevin Fewer (Ellen) of Grand Falls Windsor; sister-in-law, Mary Evans of Marystown; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. Susanna was predeceased by her father, William P. Fewer; parents-in-law, George & Loretta Saunders; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Saunders and Annette Fewer; and brother-in-law, Sidney Evans.

It is with great sadness the family of Hubert Slaney of Point May announces his passing at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on May 29, 2021, at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn his wife of 60 years Shirley; sons Stuart (Emma), Hubert Jr. (Joanne), Danny (Vanessa), Duane (Cynthia), and Greg (Trina); daughters Betty (Edward Boland), Shirley (James Grant), Kim (James Robere), Denise (Jason Walsh), and Theresa (Terry Hillier); loving family pet Happy; 28 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; brother Ron (Jennie); sisters Marion Cousins, Blanche Fitzpatrick (Loyola), and Margaret Hillier (Les); sisters-in-law Bernadette Slaney, Marie Slaney, Emma Best Philomena, Beth Hillier (Aub), Rowena Hillier (Frank), Melinda Collins (Kevin), Darlene Murphy (Charl), Carm Hillier (Les) and Barb Stacey; brothers-in-law Jim Fitzpatrick, John Stacey, William (Norma), Cecil Stacey, Gerald Stacey and Peter (Liz) plus a large circle of other family and friends. In Keeping with Hubert's wishes cremation has take place. A Celebration of Hubert's Life is planned for a later date. Hubert was a fisherman and was a helper at Fortune Light House. He loved music, especially the guitar and to laugh and have fun. One of his great joys was to dress up and make people laugh. When you visited him he always wanted to give you something nobody left empty handed. He always wanted to make sure you had a lunch and left with a full belly. At one point he was Mayor of Point May; he started up the Beaver program and was involved in Cadets. He will always be remembered for his giving ways and he would do without for anyone. His family will hold his memories in their hearts forever. To honor his life the most important thing he left behind was his wonderful family who will continue to follow his traditions and kindness in his memory. Forever loved and remembered. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear dad and pop Patrick Slaney (Pad) of St. Lawrence, on May 6, 2021, at age 89. He was pre-deceased by his wife Isabel (nee Fitzpatrick) in 2005. Left to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories his seven children, Sheri (Loyola), Brian (Blanche), Larry (Karen), Laurene (Gord), Jackie (Mike), Jeanine (Glenn), Paula (Don); 15 grandchildren, Chris (Sheena), Dawn (Tyler), Lila, Trevor (Joanne), Larry Jr. (Tanya), Francine (Logan), Patric (Cassidy), Lynette (Ryan), Megan, Ashley (Matt), Stephen (Krystal), Todd (Nicole), Melissa (Adam), Rebecca (Josh), Gillian (John); 16 great-grandchildren, Hannah, Lane, Julianne, Jennilee, Tyler, Madison, Roman, Sydney, Aedan, Rylan, Danny, Hailey, Corey, Olivia, Jacob and expected baby boy Dean; special sister-in-law Mary Slaney and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Patrick was a proud Laurentian, fun-loving and kind man. He dearly loved a game of crib, especially when he skunked you. He was a grand story-teller and loved telling them over a rum and coke. He treasured his family and never missed an opportunity to tell them he loved them. He is now re-united with the love of his life for eternity. John passed away at the his residence in Creston South on Monday, May 10, 2021, at the age of 54. John was predeceased by parents Michael & Marcella Warren; brother Bill Warren; brother-in-law Dean Mitchelmore.
