Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

CREWE, Verna
(January 27, 1949 - May 23, 2012)
Passed away suddenly at her residence in Fortune on May 23, 2012, Verna (Cake) Crewe in her 63rd year. Predeceased by her husband Curtis Crewe and her parents John & Rhoda Cake, brothers Roy & Johnny and sister Rita. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is her daughter Cathy (Alex) Pickett of Calgary, AB, son John (Darcy) of Medicine Hat, AB and three grandchildren; Shayne, Jonathon and Makayla, brothers George (Irene) - Corner Brook, NL, Cecil (Joan) - Toronto, ON, Albert (Connie) - Toronto, ON, Wayne - Fortune, NL, Lester (Garnita) - Fortune, NL and Paul - Toronto, ON, sisters Eileen - Fortune, NL, Marie (Marvin) - Comox, BC, Lillian - Halifax, NS, Lottie (Johnny) - Toronto, ON, Audrey (Jim) - Fortune, NL and Beverly (Gord) - Grand Bank, NL. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment service will take place at the Anglican Church, Lamaline (more information to follow).

1948-2012

It is with great sadness that the family of the late CHRISTOPHER JOSEPH EDWARDS of Lawn announces his passing in Lawn, NL on Tuesday May 29, 2012 at the age of 63. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Mary of 40 years; daughters Alexandria (Brad) Slaney of St. John's and Krista (Trent) Drake of St. John's; 3 granddaughters Mackenzie, Katie and Lily; grandson Riley; sisters Martha Edwards, Ellen M. Kearney and Blanche Billard; Brothers Michael and Andy Edwards; Plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by Parents Sylvester and Ellen Mary Edwards; brothers Peter, Irvin and Sylvester; sisters Lena, Susanne and Evelyn. Resting and visitation to take place from Holy Name of Jesus RC Church in Lawn on Wednesday May 30th from 1 pm - closing, and Thursday May 31st all day. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday June 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm from the Holy Name of Jesus RC Church. Cremation to follow. Inurnment will take place at the R.C. Cemetery in Lawn at a time and date to be announced. As expressions of sympathy donations in Christopher's memory may be made to Lawn Cemetery Fund. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories sons Robert (Irene) of Harbour Mille, Ward (Nina) of St. John's, Claude (Charlotte) of Dexter, Maine, Alvin (Darlene) of Dartmouth, NS, Leo (Gerri) of St. John's, Wayne (Faye) of Lab City; daughters Shirley (Eli) Skinner of Francois, Irene (Bill) Tucker of St. John's and Norma (Dave) Power of St. Bernard's with whom she resided; 18 grandchildren; 25 Great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband Harold; parents Richard & Lydia Burnes; sisters Elsie Anderson, Edith Rideout and Annie Mae Evans; brothers Maurice and James Barnes. Passed away at the Grand Bank Health Care Centre on Monday, May 21, 2012, Benjamin Hiscock of Fortune, age 85 years. Predeceased by parents John & Hannah Hiscock, wife Margaret, sister Mary; brothers, Hedley, Gordon, George, Sam & William. Leaving to mourn: special friend Blanche Strickland; sisters, Elizabeth Caines at Grand Bank, Gladys Mullins of Fortune, Jennie Bobbett (John) of Grand Bank, Gertie Langdon (Bill Barnes) of Harbour Breton. Also a large circle of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Remains will be resting at All Saint's Anglican Church, Fortune on Tuesday and Wednesday. Predeceased by parents Norman & Theresa Osmond, and sister Annie Skinner. Leaving to mourn, his wife of 58 years Violet (Keeping) Osmond, daughters Ruth (Kevin), Elaine (Jerry) of Grand Bank; sons David (Judy), Keith (Judy) of Grand Bank, and Trent (Connie) of Woodstock, NB; his 6 grandchildren & 8 great grandchildren, along with a large circle of other relatives and friends. A special thank you to the staff at the Cancer Clinic of the Health Science Centre & Grand Bank Health Care, especially Dr. Barbouti. Leaving to mourn his loving son Wallace (Peggy), Lewin's Cove, daughters Mae Lepow (Don), Massachusetts, Elizabeth Parsons, St. John's, Laura Hatcher, St. John's, Beverley Roberts (Barry), St. John's, daughter in law Anne Street, St. John's, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
