APPLEBY, Jerry
(November 4, 1951 - March 7, 2014)

Passed away suddenly on Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Health Science Center in St. John's, Jerry Ralph Appleby at the age of 62 years. Jerry served 27 years as Councillor, Deputy Mayor, and Mayor of the Town of Burin; and he was a former member of the Burin Volunteer Fire Department. He served 41 years with the Masonic Lodge, Burin, and was a founding member of the Boot Shrine Club. He served various years as a vestry member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church. Along with his love of spending time with his family, he enjoyed a game of soccer and salmon fishing. Leaving to mourn his best friend and loving wife of 40 years, Ella; three daughters Trina (Tony), Tanya, and Tammy (Peter); son Trevor (Norma); four precious grandchildren whom he adored: Kathy, Suzanna, Jake, and Simon. Also survived by beloved mother Muriel; sisters Joy (Sandy) and Jill (Jim); brother Jeff (Mary Joy); and a number of nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Sue (Alvin), Dorothy, Mary, Linda; brothers-in-law Arnold (Valetta), William, Russell (Sharon), Fraser (Elaine), Earl, and Roy. Predeceased by his father Fred Appleby, and parents-in-law, Leonard and Reta Inkpen. Visitation at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin, Monday and Tuesday, March 10 -11 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ship Cove, Wednesday, March 12, at 2 p.m. with cremation to follow. BARNES, Rachel Emily Jane
(March 3, 1929 - March 3, 2014)
Rachel Emily Jane Barnes
passed peacefully away during the early morning hours on March 3, 2014 at the Health Sciences Center after a lengthy illness and celebrating her 85th Birthday surrounded by her family. She is predeceased by her husband, our father, Amos (1978), son Lester (2005) and daughter Sandra Pittman (2006). She is survived by her children, Hilda Sheppard (Frank), Betty Ackerman (Edward), Roland (Deborah), Larry (Elizabeth) and Rosaline Ford (Wilfred). Son and daughter in law, Roland Pittman and Margaret Barnes. Sixteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. Two brothers, Raymond (Helen) and Earl (Gertie) Rideout. Sisters in law, Nina West, Shirley Barnes, Gertie Barnes, and Jean Barnes. As well as many other relatives and friends. Mom had made many friends during her earthly journey and was well known and always ready to lend a helping and friendly hand. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Staff of 4 South A of the Health Sciences Center for helping to make Mom's last days comfortable. Appreciation is also being extended to the Staff of the Dialysis Units at both the Waterford and HSC who cared for Mom for the past 3 years. The family would also like to send a sincere appreciation and thanks to the Staff and Residents of Karwood Retirement Retreat where Mom called "home" for the past 3 years for the kindness and friendships that was shown to her. Remains resting at St. Mary's Anglican Church Harbour Mille on Tuesday March 4th at 2 pm (Family Only). Public visitation from 7 pm-9 pm, and all day Wednesday March 5th. FITZPATRICK, PATRICK JOSEPH
(1942-2014)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of PATRICK JOSEPH FITZPATRICK of Creston South on March 30, 2014, age 71, a Stoker (RCN), Deck Hand, Sealer, Fisherman, Mate, Roughneck, Driller, Tool-pusher, Teacher and Woodsman. Patrick spent most of his working life at sea in such places as Brazil, Adriatic Sea, North Sea, Persian Gulf, Bering Sea and the North Atlantic. Leaving to mourn are his loving wife Linda and two sons, Thomas (Melody) and Michael (Danielle); three grandchildren Erin, James, Claire and his furry, faithful little companion, Brandi. Sisters Mary Hickey, Mercedes Cheeseman (Jim), Margarita Power (Walter), Lenora Antle (Wayne), Bernadette Dicks (Bill), Joan Rowlands(Jerome). Brothers Phil (Marion) and Wally. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of relatives and friends, especially Linda's family in Nova Scotia and also his wood cutting and fishing buddy, Heber Frampton. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, nephew Trevor Cheeseman, brothers-in-law Gary Moulton and Graham Cowie. Patrick is resting at Wiseman's Funeral Home. Predeceased by husband Charles Follett, parents Thomas and Dinah Cornish. 3 brothers Thomas, Edwin, and Melvin, and sister Mary. Predeceased by husband Benjamin, sisters Rita, Florence, Gladys, Sophie, Metilda, and Sarah. Leaving to mourn daughter Marion and son-in law Ewan Curtis. Leaving to mourn spouse of 36 years Trudy; sons Earl (Meghan) of Ontario, Derek (Dolly) of Nova Scotia, Jason Paul of St. John's and Matthew Paul (Mondella) of Paradise; daughter Wanda Collier (Jody) of St. Alban's; grandchildren Ethan, Grant, Josh, Carson, Brianna, Isabelle, Alex and Morgan; sister Sadie Popovitch plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by brother Shawn Kilfoy, grandparents Andrew and Roseanna Kilfoy, grandparents Augustine Power and Sarah Falkner, and Infant sister Rosanna Kilfoy. Resting and visitation will take place from Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Marystown on Tuesday, March 11th, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Wednesday March 12th, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, March 13th, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Roman Cemetery in Marystown. William Joseph (Buck) Slaney
of St. Lawrence, NL passed peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2014, with his wife Ann Marie of 32 years by his side as always. Buck is predeceased by his parents Donald and Nellie Slaney, as well as his in-laws, Maurice and Kay Carty of Smiths Falls, ON. Buck is survived by his siblings Alex (Lucy), Vic (Theresa), Terry (Tracy), Jose (Pad), Carm, Ray (Brenda), Donny (Denise), Darlene (Perry) and Todd (Evelyn). Survived also by his brothers-in-law James Carty of Smiths Falls, ON and Stephen Carty of Toronto, ON. Also loved and fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends. Resting and visitation will take place from St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in St. Lawrence on Saturday, March 8th, beginning at 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday, March 9th all day. The Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Mt. Cecilia Roman Catholic Cemetery in St. Lawrence. (October 6, 1920 - March 1, 2014)

Passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home Grand Bank on Saturday March 1, 2014, Elsie M. Stacey of Point May age 93 years. Predeceased by parents Frances and Martha Hewitt (Bonnell), 2 sons Leonard and Marcell, and daughter Isabelle, sons in Law Angus, Cyril, Michael, Roy, and Greg.Daughters-In Law Lucy, and Joan. Leaving to mourn 9 daughters Mary, Shirley (Hubert),Emma, Philomena, Melinda (Kevin), Beth (Aubrey), Carmelita (Les), Darlene (Charles), Rowena (Frank). 5 sons John, Peter (Liz), Gerald, William (Norma), and Cecil. 62 grandchildren, 106 great-grandchildren, and 22 great-great-grandchildren, plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Most Holy Rosary Church Point May on Sunday March 2 at 2 pm (Family Only). Public visitation at 7 pm, and than all day Monday March 3rd. Funeral Mass to take place on Tuesday March 4 at 2 pm from Most Holy Rosary Church Point May. Interment to follow at the Most Holy Rosary Cemetery Point May. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home Grand Bank.
