Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

APPLEBY, Florence
(September 17, 1926 - June 16, 2009)

Passed suddenly away at her home on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 Florence Appleby of Burin in her 82nd year. Leaving to mourn sons Wayne and wife Jessie of Marystown, Denzil and wife Cyndie of Kelligrews; daughter-in-law Corella Appleby of Lewin's Cove; grandchildren Tommy, Rod, Holly, Keith and Tina; great-grandchildren Dante, Chanasie, Courtney and Shelby; sisters Mabel and Marilyn plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by husband Tom; sons Keith and Derek; sister Olive Harnum. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2pm to 10pm and Thursday from 10am to 10pm. Funeral service to take place from Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Ship's Cove at 2PM on Friday with interment following at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Ship Cove. Passed peacefully away at U.S. Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence on June 05, 2009, Ethel (Ettie) Day, of Garnish, in her 97th Year. Leaving to mourn her loving nieces and nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband Fred,and parents John and Esther Marsh, and sister Esther. Resting at St. Gile's Anglican Church, Garnish on Friday (4pm - 9pm), Saturday (All Day), on Sunday (10am - 12pm). Funeral service from St. Gile's Anglican Church, Garnish at 2 PM on Sunday, June 07, 2009, with interment at the Anglican Cemetery in Garnish. No flowers or donations by request of the family. ELFORD, Susie Amelia (Millie) (nee Belbin)
(November 15, 1921 - June 6, 2009)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Amelia Elford announce her passing on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Bonne Bay Health Center in Norris Point at the age of 87. She was Predeceased by her husband Frank Elford in 1997. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Brenda Elford (Nelson Snow), Rocky Harbour, George Elford (Geralyn), Fort McMurray,grandchildren: Dana Pittman (Neil Brophy), Neil Pittman (Candis), Justin Elford (Kelly), Joshua Elford (Charles Kelly), Jordan Elford, Jaleesa Elford, two great grandchildren: Abby Pittman and Gemma Elford. Leaving to mourn with other family members are brother Earl Belbin, and special nieces Phyllis Suttis and Doreen Loveys. Also being remembered by loving caregivers and treasured friends. Predeceased by parents Frank and Martha Hewitt, husband Leo, sons, Maurice, Walter and John, and granddaughter Miranda. Leaving to mourn: 5 daughters Pauline Hillier( Carl) at Brooks, AB, Mary Perron (Lou) at New Brunswick, Seamore Shea at New Brunswick, Margaret Hennebury (Bob) at Point May, and Edith Ayers at Marystown; 3 sons Mike Shea (Madglon) at Point May, Gordon Shea (Cecilia) at Fortune, and Terrence Shea (Geraldine) at Edmonton, AB., sister Elsie Stacey at Point May; also a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. Remains resting at The Church of the Most Holy Rosary, Point May on Sunday and Monday. Family prayers will be on Monday at 7 pm. Passed peacefully away at The Blue Crest Interfaith Home Grand Bank on Saturday June 27, 2009, Gertrude Taylor of Grand Bank, age 87 years. Predeceased by Husband Richard, Father and Mother John and Martha Hardiman, three sisters Ann, Hilda and Theresa, five brothers Cecil, Cyril, Wilson, Charlie and Reginald. Leaving to mourn: Son Ernest, Daughter Sheila (Bud) Boomer, Grandson Richard, Granddaughter Stephanie and three loveable pets, sister Flossie, brother Raymond. Funeral Service was conducted by Rev. Tim Graham from Warren's Funeral Home at 9:30 am on Tuesday, June 30th. Interment followed at St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery. Organist was Tom Cumben. Pallbearers were: Ernest Taylor, Richard Taylor, Bud Boomer and Craig Price. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home Grand Bank. "Where Dedicated People Care."

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center St John's on Saturday June 27, 2009 Isabell Hoskins Warren of Grand Bank, previously from St. Alban's, age 80 yrs. Predeceased by parents Sam and Emma Sealey, sister Mae Brown Drover, brother Gordon Sealey, and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Hoskins. Leaving to mourn; Husband John Ben at Grand Bank, 3 Daughters Sharon (Frank Collier) Saint Alban's, Jeanie Hoskins (Bas) Holyrood, Nora (Edward Baker) Grand Bank,4 Sons Ralph Hoskins (Sharon) Fortune, Donis Hoskins Fortune, Doug Hoskins (Cindy) Gander, Anthony Hoskins (Susie) Head of the bay, son-in-law Tony at Leading Tickles, 3 Step Daughters, Mary (Don) Tapper Frenchman's Cove, Annie (Les) Haskell Grand Bank, Carol (Duke) Hicks Grand Bank, 16 Grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren. Funeral Service was conducted by Majors Lyndon and Lisa Hale from the Salvation Army Grand Bank at 2 pm on Tuesday, June 30th. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Music was provided by the Salvation Army Band. Pallbearers were sons: Don Hoskins, Ralph Hoskins, Anthony Hoskins, Douglas Hoskins, and grandsons Kelsey Hoskins and Todd Haggett. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home Grand Bank. "Where Dedicated People Care."
