He was a friend to many, a great brother to his siblings and always could be counted on to give a helping hand, you only had to ask. He always loved a crowd and music, he came from a family of 19 so I guess he was always use to a crowd. Jim was "a jack of all trades" he could take his hand to anything. He was a very strong and determined man after doing 4 chemo treatments he still was in the woods cutting his winter's wood with his son Jimmy. He fought his battle with cancer for over a year with strength and determination never one to give up but he finally lost the battle but no one can ever say without a good fight. His family will never forget his love for them and will always be remembered for his strength. "The music stopped but the melody never ends." Family will be accepting visitors on Sunday, July 24th from 7-9PM and Monday, July 25th 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Predeceased by her parents Maxwell and Sarah (Young) MacDonald; husband Allan Marshall; children Danny, Elroy and Dolores; grandson Danny; sisters Lydia and Susan; niece Margaret; nephew Darryl.
Our Mom was born in a tiny coastal village called Francois but she always called it Fransway. She always loved to talk about where she came from especially the friar. The most important thing to her was family. She was always there for everyone of us. She was always a storyteller and loved to tell stories about her sisters and brother. She always said her sister Lydia was the Boss but we find that hard to believe. She was babysitter to her other three siblings and she laugh about saying she put them to bed early because she was mad at Nan & Grandpa & Aunt Lydia was gone to someone's house to play cards and she was left babysitting. She loved them dearly though next to it was her children who she doted on. Her grandchildren were always right and the best at everything, they could do no wrong. She loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humour but she wasn't perfect, when she got mad or thought someone was hurting someone belong to her watch out. She was always there for the underdog and always taught her family to pay it forward. We all will miss her goodnight texts and I love you God Bless but now she is our angel. "It's not goodbye but it's until we meet again." There will be a visitation Saturday July 9, 2022 from 2-4PM & 7-9PM. Funeral service from Serenity Chapel at 1PM on Sunday, July 10, 2022 with interment following at the Anglican Cemetery, Arnold's Cove at 4PM. Donations in her memory may be made to the Gathering Place, St. John's or just do a good deed for someone in her memory. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home. MARTIN, Charles George
It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Charles George Martin in his 94thyear on July 8, 2022 of Creston South, formally of Bulls Cove, Burin. Loving memories will be carried on by his wife Ruth, children Derrick (Peggy), Tony (Verna), Judy (Mike), John J. (Pat), Sandra (Den), Barbara (Stephen), John D., sisters' Grace Ross and Joan Mayo, brother-in-law John Winter (Mary), 14 grandchildren & 19 great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of family and friends. Charlie was raised in Bulls Cove by his parents Jack and Violet. He was very fond of passing down the many stories of his days as a youth and the many adventures he had. Life was very different then and he would often tell of the times with his father cutting the ice in the ponds for the fishing boats and of learning to drive in his father's Model A Ford. Charlie was a great carpenter and was known to have many projects over the years but he found the most pride in the portable fibreglass garbage container he made so he could carry out the garbage in style - and this was long before the containers we have today! And of course we can't forget the cabin he built in Tides Brook by re-modelling a tiny camper to a living space for nine! Charlie began his working career at the Cold Storage in Burin and went on to become a Plant Manager in Catalina and Marystown with Fishery Products International. He finished his career as a Research and DevelopmentEngineer with Fishery Products International, St. John's. He also enjoyed his time as an officer with the Marystown Sea-cadets and would often be off on one adventure or another. Charlie and Ruth retired back to Marystown where he was happy to carry on his love for carpentry and to pass on his talents to others in the family. Charlie's other passion was to dance as he and Ruth would often be seen on many a dance floor dancing a two-step, a jig or a waltz. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was always up for a games of cards or a fine family feast. Charlie will be missed by all. He enjoyed a great life and heaven will be a brighter place as he joins the many family and friends waiting to greet him. As per his wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on August 13th from 1 - 6pm at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. Celebration of Life will be held on August 14that 2pm at Serenity Funeral Chapel, Burin with interment to follow at Holy Trinity Church, Burin.
