Burin Peninsula Obituaries
July 2011

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour.
All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

DUNNE, Susannah
(October 3, 1925 - July 25, 2011)
Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank, on Monday, July 25, 2011, Susannah Dunne of Fortune, age 85 years. Predeceased by parents: John W. & Marion Jane Thornhill, Loving husband Claude Dunne (Sr), children; Marjorie, Shelia & Calvin, Grand Child; Cindy Burt; brothers; Percival, Stewart, James, William & Maxwell; sisters; Cora V. Thornhill, Maggie Pinkat Thornhill & Edna B. Slaney. Leaving to mourn are her sons: James & wife Audrey of Fortune, Claude & wife Linda of CBS, David & Darlene at Airdrie, AB, and 4 daughters, all of Fortune: Minnie & husband Charles Monster, Jane & husband Carl Crews, Kay & husband Philip Mavin, Helen & husband Gerald Rolls. 15 grandchildren & their spouses; 21 great grand children, and 1 sister Gertrude Dunne residing in Corner Brook. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Monday from 7PM - 9PM for FAMILY ONLY; and on Tuesday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm. Wednesday 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm. Then resting at the Salvation Army, Fortune on Wednesday at 7pm and Thursday Morning. Date & Time of funeral service to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army Fortune. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

EVANS, Norman
(August 10, 1929 - July 8, 2011)
Passed peacefully away at his residence in Grand Bank, July 8, 2011, Norman Evans, age 81 years. Predeceased by wife, Sarah Ann, parents, Melinda and Joseph (Ada), sister Linda, Leaving to mourn: daughters, Melinda Hillier (Lloyd) of Burin, Marilyn Keeping (Jack) of Grand Bank, sons, Carl (Margaret), Wayne (Anne), both of Grand Bank, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sister, Hannah Jane Barnes (Leo) of Grand Bank, brothers Angus (Selma) of Port Aux Bras, Wilfred (Annie) of Garnish. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Friday from 7pm - 9pm. Then on Saturday from 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm, and on Sunday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, at 2pm from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank. Interment to follow at St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in his memory may be made to Home of Daffodil Place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

FELIX, Melinda Ann
(December 16, 1958 - July 30, 2011)
Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care on Saturday, July 30, 2011, Melinda Ann Felix of Grand Bank, age 52 years. Predeceased by parents: Captain Leo & Mary Prior; aunt Melinda (Clyde) Welsh. Leaving to mourn: husband Ray, sons Leo & Billy, sister Emily (Aubrey) Crews; brothers George (Hazel) Prior Charlie & Ivy, Nieces, Keira, Paula, & Darlene. Nephews Brandon, Leo, Chris, Calvin, Owen, Tomas & Dylan. Uncle Calvin (Jean) Foote; Aunt Martha Douglas; 4 grandchildren.Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Major James Cooper from the Salvation Army, Grand Bank, at 2pm on Tuesday, August 2nd. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by the Salvation Army Band. Pall Bearers were: Ivy Simms Clements, Charlie Prior, George Prior, Dave Warren, Clayton Welsh and Frank Smith. Donations in her memory may be made to the family.

HYNES, JOSEPH A.
1916-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late JOSEPH HYNES of Terrenceville announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Wednesday July 6, 2011 at the age of 94. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Wife Theresa of 72 years; Sons Pius (Isabel) of Terrenceville, Joseph (Melita) of Medicine Hat, and Stan (Rhona) of Mount Pearl; Daughters Rebecca Hickey (Gus) of Terrenceville, Mary Blum (Peter) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Theresa Rodway (Max) of Creston South, and Christina Banfield (Clarence) of Labrador City; Brother George Hynes of Terrenceville; 15 Grandchildren; 17 Great-Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by Sons George and Norman, 5 Brothers and 3 Sisters. Resting and visitation to take place from St. Joseph's RC Church in Terrenceville on Friday July 8th from 2pm - 9pm ; Saturday July 9th All Day until 9pm; and Sunday July 10th from 2pm - 9pm, where Funeral Mass will take place on Monday July 11, 2011 at 10:00am. Predeceased by Son Donald Walsh, Husbands Alfred Walsh and Anthony Lambe, Brothers William, Casmir, Donald and Patrick Isaacs, Sisters Lillian Slaney and Jane Walsh, and Son-in-law William Harnett. Left to mourn Son Clement Walsh (Catherine); Daughter Eileen Harnett; Grandchildren Sean and Chris Walsh, Tracey (Adrian), and Danny Harnett (Nadine); Great Grandchildren Ashley, Krysta, Megan, and Shanen Walsh, Caitlyn and Ava Edwards; Sisters Marion Skanes (Leo), and Geraldine Krespan (Leo); Brothers Robert Isaacs and Herbert Isaacs (Phylis); Sisters-in-law Sarah Isaacs, Alice Isaacs, and Francis Binteau; Brothers-in-law Adrian Slaney, John Walsh, Clement Lambe (Claudia), and Carl Walsh (Eileen); plus a large circle of family and friends. MAYO, WILLIAM (BILL)
1944-2011
Surrounded by the love and care of his family, William (Bill) Mayo joined his family and friends in Heaven on July 28, 2011, at the of age 66 years. Left with saddened hearts, but a lifetime of beautiful memories, are his wife Joan of 40 years; daughters: Dana Farrell (Greg) of Marystown, Deanne Antle (Scott) of Paradise, Dawn Walsh (Steve) of St. John's. Grandchildren: Jacob and Lauren Farrell, Ava and Reece Antle. Brothers: John, Sam (Effie), Charlie Mayo and families; sisters: Margaret Hodder (Clifford), Shirley Hanabusa (Yoshi), Christine Smith (David) and families. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Bernadette Dwyer (Dennis), Patricia Riggs (Roland), Evelyn Brown (Gerry), Gordon Coady, Lorraine Taylor (Gary), Wallace (Anne) Coady, Allan Coady and families, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and close friends. Predeceased by his parents Armena and Sam Mayo, sister Marlene, nephews Larry, Gregory and Christopher Hodder, Mother and Father-in-law Christina and John Coady, brother-in-law John Coady and sister-in-law Sheila Coady. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Children Andrew (Nancy Barrfield) of Bay L'Argent, Ann Myles (Bruce) of Alliston, ON, Sheila Parrott (Bernard) of St. Bernards, and Cathy Rideout (Sam Mitchell) of St. John's; Grandchildren Christine Myles, Katie Fitzpatrick, Jessika Rideout, Gavin Myles, Erin Parrott, Kirk Fitzpatrick, Elizabeth Parrott, Taylor Mitchell and Tyler Banfield; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by Husband Andrew (Dec. 1991). Cremation has taken place.
