Burin Peninsula Obituaries July 2010

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BECK, WAYNE
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin, on July 9, 2010, WAYNE ALBERT BECK, formerly of St. Lawrence, in his 56th year. Leaving to mourn his loving brother Avalon (Dawne), Winnipeg, MB, sisters Ina Crocker (Robert), Topsail, Lena Grandy (Melvin), Garnish, Norma Lilly, Sudbury, ON, Barbara Moore (William), Thompson, MB, Gloria McBride (Donald), Winnepeg, MB, Rosela Loder (Verno), Marystown; caregivers Terry Power and family, Mortier, and Gerard and Rose Bonnell, Marystown; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Lillian Beck and brother in law Charles Lilly.The funeral service was conducted by Rev. Robert Peddle and Rev. John E. K. Nicolle on July 12th, 2010 at 2 PM at St. Matthew's Anglican Church, St. Lawrence. Interment was at the Anglican Church Cemetery, St. Lawrence, NL. Pall bearers were Mark Loder, Terry Grandy, Ryan Courage, Rene Fowler, Roger Pike, and Nelson Inkpen . In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's memory may be made to the St. Matthew's Anglican Church, St. Lawrence.

Passed peacefully away at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre, St. Lawrence, on July 2nd, 2010, ARMENA MAYO, of Creston South, in her 95th year. Leaving to mourn her loving sons Bill (Joan), Creston South, Sam (Effie), Creston North, John, Creston South, Charlie, Salt Pond, daughters Margaret Hodder (Clifford), Nova Scotia, Shirley Hanabusa (Yoshi), Brampton, ON, Christine Smith (Dave), Creston South; 17 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren; sister Emily Marshall (Bert), Winterland, brother Willis Fizzard (Margaret), Creston North; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents George and Elizabeth Fizzard, Husband Samuel W., daughters Marlene Brushett, Effie, Ann, and Betty; grandchildren Larry, Christopher, and Gregory Hodder. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband Eugene; sons Reuben (Leona) of Brooks, AB, Wayne (Gail) of Burin and Roy (Penny) of Sheet Harbour, NS; loyal friend and companion Mary Whalen of Burin; grandchildren Sandra Hodder, Jason Mayo, Gillian Mayo and Zachary Mayo; sister Sadie Snook (George) of Wreck Cove; brother Frederick Blagdon (Nora) of Terrenceville, Onslow Blagdon (Bessie) of Greenwood, NS and Oscar Blagdon of Marysvale plus a large circle of other family and friends. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on July 19, 2010 William Collier Paul aged 55 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Janice; sons Kenny of Ontario and Scott of Nova Scotia; daughters Susan (Craig) and Jennifer (Jerry) both of St. John's; godchildren Jordan, Justin and Zachary; sisters Ruth, Maxine (Randy) and Cindy (Shawn); brothers Don (Ethel), Ralph (Donna), Clyde and Brad (Letta) plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by parents Dorothy and Teddy; brothers George, Wally and Eddie and sister-in-law Darlene. Rev. It is with great sadness that the family of the late WINNIFRED PINCHBECK of Fortune announces her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Sunday July 11, 2010 at the age of 80. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; sons Wayne (Karen) Pinchbeck of Lower Sackville, NS., and Clifford Pinchbeck of St. John's; daughters Clarissa (Ches) Follett of Grand Beach, and Janice Pinchbeck of St. Mary's, ON.; sisters Mabel (Alfred) Hatcher, June (Lorne) Kenway, and Sue (Paul) DeBono; brothers Tom (Florence) Martin, Frank (Mabel) Martin, and Clyde (Barbara) Martin; 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by husband Andrew, daughter Grace, grandson Rodney, brothers and sisters. Resting and Visitation to take place from Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Fortune on Monday July 12th from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm; Tuesday July 13th 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. Funeral Service to take place at Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Fortune on July 14th at 2pm. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Fortune. In Winnifred's memory, donations may be made to the Roman Catholic Cemetery Fund or flowers gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes.

WHALEN, EDNA MAE
Date of Birth: March 23, 1919

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Monday, July 19, 2010, Edna Mae Whalen of Burin Bay Arm in her 91st year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories daughter Julie Hollett (Guy) of Burin Bay Arm; grandchildren Donna (Mike), Diane (JR), Linsey (Heath) and Jillian (Wayne); great-grandchildren Josh, Jennifer, Jillian, Alison, Sean, Maria and Rowan; special family member Hazel McEwan; daughter-in-law Diane Moulton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Marjorie and Clayton Moulton; sisters-in-law Marina Taylor, Jeanette Taylor and Beulah Moulton plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by husbands George Moulton and James Whalen; son Calvin Moulton and three infant children. Rev. Mary Harris officiated Funeral service on Thursday at 2pm from Bethany United Church, Burin Bay Arm with interment following at Bethany United Cemetery, Burin Bay Arm. Pall Bearers were Wayne Antle, Heath Klippert, Scott Croucher, Albert Taylor, Samuel Hollett and Calvin Taylor. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Bethany United Church.

WITHERS, NICHOLAS
Passed away at his home in Frenchman's Cove, NL, on July 5, 2010, NICHOLAS WITHERS, formerly of Rock Harbour, in his 80th year. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Bertha, son Don, Marystown, daughters Shirley Hooper (John), Marystown, Lorraine Withers (Jim Moulton), Garnish, Bertha Withers (Bill Hennebury), Marystown, Stepsons Phonse Power (Miriam), Frenchman's Cove, John Power (Bertha), Frenchman's Cove, Walter Power (Jenny), Fort McMurray, AB., Stepdaughters Veronica Herridge (Lloyd), Frenchman's Cove, Marie Kelly (Norbert), Little Bay, Patsy Hing (Nicholas), North York, ON., Mary Thorne (Joe), King's City, ON., Olive Slaney (Ray), Ontario, Theresa Drake, Marystown; 24 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren; sisters Gertie Hooper, Rock Harbour, and Mary Eliza Withers, Creston South; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by his 1st wife Ethel, daughter Georgina Cross, parents Laura and James Withers, brothers John, John James, and Nicholas, and sisters Elizabeth, Annie, Florence, and Beatrice. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John E. K. Nicolle on July 08th, 2010 at 2 PM. Interment was at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Rock Harbour, NL. Pall bearers were Phonse Power, Johnny Power, William Power, Bill Hennebury, Chad Withers, and John Hooper. Donations in Nicholas's memory may be made to St. Peter's or St. Luke's Anglican Church.
