Together, they raised six children in Port au Bras. In later life, after the death of her first husband, Melinda married Chesley Abbott. All who knew Melinda knew that she was a very strong woman. She dearly loved her children, and she considered them her greatest accomplishment. She always put them first. For them, she was a strong advocate and a fierce defender. She was a marvelous cook, and could put a taste on anything. All were welcomed at her table. If she knew someone needed a meal, she ensured they were fed. She never wanted to see anyone hungry, including any animals that would wander their way up to her house. Melinda had a very kind heart. She was also very witty. Being in her company was always entertaining. She also had a wonderful sense of style and it was important to her that she was properly put together whenever she went through the door. She loved getting dressed in her finest and putting her makeup on. Throughout her life, Melinda gave a lot of her time to community organizations and she thoroughly enjoyed every moment. She was a member of the Burin Peninsula Ladies Auxiliary, Seniors Resource Centre and the Masons and Shriners. She always loved a game of bingo and was later introduced to cards. She enjoyed competing and more importantly she loved winning. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Staff at Pleasant View Towers, Clare Penton NP, Dr. Patel, Dr Essaji, Kristan King RN, BN, Candy Cheung RN, BN, and all the staff at 3SW for their professionalism and kindness. A thank you to special friends Harry and Olive Brown, Emma Kennedy, Mary Dibbon and Connie Heffernan all who gave Melinda support through her difficult times. Mom dearly loved her garden and as such flowers are kindly accepted in her memory. The most beautiful thing about her cannot be seen. It is not found in her measurements or the clothes that she wears. It's in the depth of her thoughts, content of her character, and the serenity of her soul. Morgan Richard Olivier. Born in Grand Bank in 1930, Dad left for Toronto in 1949 and in 1952, met the love of his life, Pearl, whom he married in 1954. In 1974, Mom and Dad moved back to Grand Bank and opened up Frank's Bike Shop which they ran for 10+ years and then he operated Frank's Taxi until he retired. Dad made friends easy and had them for life. He continued to share friendships with his Toronto friends while making new and many new ones every day. Dad loved life and was a fierce defender of his family and friends. A hard worker and provider, he never let adversity get in his way, always finding a way to make ends meet and enjoy life at the same time. He loved his boats and being on the water whenever he could for recreation and sometimes to make a living. Beyond friends and family nothing gave him any more joy than a good game of cards. Be it cribbage or whist he had a photographic memory when it came to cards that were played and left to be played in someone else's hand. Honesty and integrity defined him as did his passions. A Mason and Shriner for almost 50 years he dedicated himself to the craft and making good men better. His charity work through the Boot Shrine club gave him immense pride, joy and happiness. Once retired, he and Mom spent many years traveling with Mom's sister Naomi and her husband Martin. On one of their many adventures, they drove from coast to coast and back and Mom and Dad were fortunate enough to visit Alaska, the Yukon Territory and points in between. Their exploits were legendary and we are not sure what they enjoyed the most, the traveling or the mandatory games of cribbage between Dad and Uncle Mart once they got off the road. Loser pours! A very special thanks to Doctor Beckley for his many years of friendship, fidelity and medical assistance. Thank you for the special care from all of the medical professionals in Grand Bank and St. Johns. Eternal gratitude and love to our friend and angel Loretta Barnes who will always be in our family, our hearts and prayers. Our Dad will be remembered and loved by all who had the great fortune to meet him. Our broken hearts are only eased knowing that he is finally with his sweetheart whom he mourned and worshipped every day. Visitation is to be held at Serenity Funeral Home, Grand Bank on January 6th, 2023, from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 6:00pm - 8:00pm. Church and Masonic Service will be held at Grand Bank United Church at 1:00pm on January 7, 2023. Private family interment at Grand Bank United Church cemetery.
