BAKER, CARTER
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Carter Baker of St. Bernard's announces his passing. Carter passed away at his home in St. Bernard's on Monday, February 6th, 2023, at the age of 71. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his wife of 45 years, Florence; mother Hettie; son Shane of St. Bernard's; daughters, Nicole Clarke of St. Bernard's, Christie Baker (Bobby Hardy) of St. John's; 2 grandchildren, Gracie and Cayden; sisters, Rowena Baker (Darwin), Pearl Walters (Lloyd), Patricia Sheppard (Rupert); sister-in-law Anita Benteau; brothers & sisters-in-law of the Myles Family; fur buddy, Chico; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. BECK, GUS
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Gus Beck of St. Lawrence announces his passing. Gus passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre, Burin on Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, at the age of 67. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his daughter, Dawn Beck (Cliff Moores) of St. Lawrence; sons, Jonathan Beck (Tanya Tucker), Colin Beck, Damymean Stacey-Beck and Daydreian Stacey-Beck of St. Lawrence; grandchildren, Jimmy, Ryder, Jayden, Logan, Tanner and Olivia; sister, Darlene Slaney (Aloysius) of Grand Falls; brothers, Henry Beck (Glenda), Harvey Beck (Christina) and Charlie Beck (Dorinda) of St. Lawrence; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. BREWER, ALICE
Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health care centre on February 14, 2023, Alice Brewer (Pike) at the age of 74 of Lewins cove. Predeceased by husband Frank, Parents Elizabeth & Robert Pike.Parents in law Edward & Rosella Brewer. Her siblings Margaret (Robert) Pike, Beatrice (William) Green, George & Douglas Pike. Sisters in law Jessie Kelly, Nancy Brewer. Brother in law Issac Harding. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, Her children Martha, Ruby ( Fred), Frankie (Crystal) & Eugene. Grandchildren Shane, Candace (Cody), Chad(Bree), Mckenzie (Mike), Logan, Brady & Erika. Great Grandchildren Paige, Aria, Shaye & Caleb. BYRDE, MARY ALICE
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Mary Alice Byrde of Marystown (formerly of Terrenceville) announces her passing. Mary Alice passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 at the age of 91. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her loving sister Edith Hackett (John); daughters, Melinda Hatcher (Emmanuel) of Marystown, Ada Hickey (Charles) of Terrenceville, Daphne Matthews (Robert) of Burin, and Kelly Byrde of Marystown; son, Will Byrde (Carolann) of St. John's; 16 grandchildren, Trina, Sheranda, Krista, Colleen, Darryl, Ada, Charlene, Charles, Nathan, Denika, Terri, Norman, Deon, Danielle, Tyson and Chiara; a number of great-grandchildren; special niece and caregiver, Joan Coombs; plus a large circle of extended family, friends and special neighbours where she lived. It is with profound sadness that the family of Kevin Francis Fitzpatrick announces his passing on February 2nd, 2023 at 76 years of age. Predeceased by his parents: Mary and Victor Fitzpatrick. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Kristen (Michael St-Pierre-Caron) Fitzpatrick and Andrea Fitzpatrick, his furry companion Ginger, and extended family and friends. GRANDY, THOMAS (TOM)
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas (Tom) Grandy of Grand Bank announces his sudden passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on February 16, 2023, at the age of 76 years. Tom went to Seal Cove to teach at an early age of 16. He taught school there for 2 years and met the love of his life Gladie Loveless who he married and brought back to Grand Bank and raised his family and taught for another 29 years. He retired at the age of 48 years. He enjoyed his life with his family and times spent together at his home and cabin. He learned to play the accordion on his own and he and Gladey spent many hours singing together. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, Uncle and friend to many. A very humble man who loved to hear a story and tell a story to whomever he could get to listen. To know Tom was to love him, he was a very soft spoken man who loved laughter and was in his delight when a crowd came around to share in a meal or a good game of cards. Tom will be missed by many but especially his two grand-dogs, Skippy and Gus. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife of 57 years Gladie; daughters Margaret (Albert) of Grand Bank; Lois (Jeff) of St. John's and Paula (Bob) of Brampton, ON; grandchildren Heather, Aaron and Blake (Lori); great grandchildren Austin and Greyson; sister Geneva (Fred); brothers Jack (Sharon) and Roy (Denise) plus a large circle of other family and friends. HICKEY, REBECCA
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Rebecca Hickey of Terrenceville announces her passing. Rebecca passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Saturday, February 11th, 2023, at the age of 82. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her son, Tim (Valerie) of Bauline Line; daughter, Clara Ryan (Stephen Grant) of Little Seldom; her grandchildren, Timothy, Samantha, Meghan, Carter; sisters, Christina (Clarence), Theresa (Max), Mary (Peter); brothers, Joe (Melita) and Stan (Rhona); sisters-in-law, Anne-Marie Hynes and Isabel Hynes; her good friends, Vera and Verna; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. HILLIER, ONSLOW
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Onslow Hillier of Grand Bank announces his passing. Onslow passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at the age of 83. Onslow was born on Brunette Island in 1939, he was very proud to be born there and told everyone. He moved to Fortune at the age of 9 years, where he lived until he married Shirley and moved to Grand Bank. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and a very proud member of the Fire Department, where he served as Fire Chief for a couple of years. He moved to Marystown in 1976 and became involved in the Lions Club and the Fire Department there. He moved back to Grand Bank (Lance au Loup) in 2001 where they stayed until 2019 when they moved back to the seniors cottages in Marystown. Onslow spent most of his life as a car salesman. He was very much a family man and loved spending time with his children, grand children and great grandchildren. He loved music, especially playing his accordian. He loved to dance and would have a waltz anytime, anywhere. He had lots of lifelong friends who they loved spending time with. HILLIER, REUBEN
Reuben (Reub) Hillier
was born on Brunette Island in Fortune Bay on October 10th, 1937. He spent his youth growing up in Fortune. Reub moved to Gander in January, 1957 to begin his successful career at Gander Aeradio. Reub quickly planted his Gander roots and fostered many friendships, earning the respect and admiration of both friends and coworkers. Soon after arriving in Gander, Reub met and married his soulmate and love of his life, Anne Nolan of Sweet Bay, Bonavista. Together they had five children; Reub is survived by Anne, his wife of 64 years and his children; Connie Bull (Chris), Karen (Rob Kelly), Chris (Brenda), Glenn and Rose. Reub was equally proud of his grandchildren: Marc, Vanessa, Nathan, Natasha, Ryan, Lucas, Alexa, Andrew, Addison, Justin, Jade and Corey. Reub also enjoyed his great-grandchildren Mya, Dreygen, Quinne, Maddox and Reuben. Reuben leaves to mourn his sister, Evelyn (Barbara), brothers Gerry and Phil (Sandy) and brother-in-law, David Hall (Rhea). Also mourning Reub's passing is a large and extensive family of in-laws and nieces and nephews. Reuben is predeceased by his parents Walter and Rita, his sister Irene Hall and brother Eli. Reub was a selfless man, well loved by all. He had a particular set of skills for any situation and was always eager to lend a hand to anyone in need as well as eager to pass on his knowledge and experience so that his kids didn't have to learn the hard way. He wanted only the best for all of them and he was the best. He is remembered as a true gentleman, a wonderful husband and a supportive and loving father and adored by his grandchildren. Reub was greatly respected and many have said they've never met a better man. Reub's absence will be profoundly felt. Family will be accepting friends at Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander on Thursday, February 16th from 1:30 P.M. - 4:30 P.M. A small private family service will take place at Stacey's Funeral Home on Friday, February 17th. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. HYNES, JOSEPH BERNARD

Joseph passed away at the his residence in Fortune on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at the age of 76. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Ludwick Legge of Garnish announces his passing. Ludwick passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on Sunday, February 26th, 2023, at the age of 87. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are his sons, Frazer Legge (Betty) of Fort McMurray, AB, Robert Legge (Elaine) of Marystown, Danny Legge (Connie) of Garnish; 5 grandchilden, Lindsey Murphy (Derrick), Jenelle Philpott (Chris), Kyle Legge (Victoria), Jayden Legge, Keirra Legge; 5 great-grandchildren, Kassen, Derrick, Jenna, Kendal and Carter; sister Betty Simmons of Nova Scotia; plus a large circle of extended family and friends. MARSHALL, URSULA ANN
Passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at 75 years of age, Ursula Ann Marshall (Foote) of Burin, originally from Fox Cove. Predeceased by her parents, George and Annie Foote, her husband, Terry, her siblings Albert, Mary, Emily and Dennis, and Andrea's spouse, Terry Brennan. Leaving to mourn, her children Kelly (Andrew), Andrea, Richard (Tracy) and her ever special grandchildren Nickolas, Rhys, Alexa and Gwyn. Also leaving to mourn a large circle of special friends and extended family. She was a never-resting sports mom and a very proud grandmother at recitals, concerts and sports events. Mom was a retired teacher who loved her students like her own. She made a difference in many lives. She was also very passionate about, and previously served as the President of the Burin Peninsula Laubach Literacy Council. Mom also adopted a number of 'strays' over the years. Some with four legs and some with two! Everyone and every animal was welcome at her house. Again, she loved them all as if they were her own...... A special thank-you to the many who cared for her as her health declined. You each know who you are. Visitation to take place Wednesday, February 15th, 2023 and Thursday, February 16th, 2023 from 2-4PM & 6-9PM. McFARLANE, LUCY FITZPATRICK
Our hearts are broken as we announce the passing of Lucy FitzPatrick McFarlane, following a 15-year battle with Alzheimer's. She was a treasured wife, mother, and writer who passed at Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank, on February 12, 2023, at the age of 74. Lucy is survived by her husband Murray (in Grand Bank), and her two sons, Scott (in South Korea), and Tim (in Chrystal Beach, Ontario).
Lucy was born in Lord's Cove, Newfoundland & Labrador, August 10, 1948, to John and Lottie Fitzpatrick and was the youngest of a large family of nine siblings. She was predeceased by her parents, and sister Helena (Jim Maher) and brothers Fred (Marie) and Harve (Helen). Left to mourn her loss, and to cherish a lifetime of memories are her sisters Marceline (Tony Cannizaro, deceased), Kate (Cec Handrigan, deceased) and Leona (Jerry Machan) and her brothers Raphael (Winnie) and Louis, and a large circle of in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.
She attended St. Joseph's High School in Lamaline and went on to further her education at the College of Trades and Technology in St. John's. After graduation, she worked in Wabush, Labrador, where she met her husband, Murray McFarlane, a civil engineer/project manager from Ontario, and they were married in Labrador City on April 22, 1972. Together, they raised two amazing sons, Scott and Tim.
Lucy was a talented wordsmith, known for her evocative writing about her beloved home province of Newfoundland. Her works, including short stories, newspaper columns, poems, books, and plays, have appeared in publications such as Newfoundland Lifestyle, Newfoundland Quarterly, Newfoundland Herald, Newfoundland TV Topics and The Downhomer (Downhome Magazine) and she was a popular writer of her Tickle & Bight column. She was particularly proud of her first stage play, a comedic piece about her brother Raphael, titled The Idler, which was produced at the Arts and Culture Centre in St. John's for the Summer Festival and has since been performed by several high schools in the province. Her book, Tickle & Bight, published by Downhome Publishing in 2010, was sold out quickly same year. In the November, 2014 Downhome Magazine, Ron Young, retired founding editor of Downhome, wrote and published his tribute to Lucy. In it, Ron wrote "Lucy is one of the most brilliant writers I have ever met. She gets into your heart and your soul. She makes you part of her past as she shares her past with you."
Lucy had a love for reading, enjoyed exploring new destinations, and was passionate about music and the arts. She was a kind and warm person, known for her quick wit and infectious smile. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Our family would also like to extend a sincere thank you to staff of Blue Crest Nursing Home and Ashley King for the wonderful homecare assistance she provided the year prior to Lucy entering Blue Crest.
In keeping with Lucy's wishes, cremation has taken place.
The Fitzpatrick/McFarlane Family will be accepting visitors on Wednesday, April 19th, 2023 from 10:00am to 1:00pm, at the St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church in Lord's Cove, Funeral service will be at the church in Lord's Cove following the visitation on April 19th, 2023 at 1:00pm. Inurnment to follow at the St. Elizabeth's R.C. Cemetery in Lord's Cove, then followed by a reception at the Town Hall from 2:45pm to 4:30pm to celebrate Lucy's life.

Betty passed away at her home in Marystown on Monday, February 13th, 2023, at the age of 62. Florence passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Sunday, February 5th, 2023, at the age of 84. MOULTON, DONALD
Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on February 4th, 2023, Donald Moulton in his 91st year. Pre-deceased by his wife, Olive, in August 2021. Leaving with treasured memories his daughter, Cathy Marsh (Charlie); sons, Carl (Sharon) and Perry (Kitty); grandchildren, Chris, Gary, Mikaela, Dylan, Courtney and Anna; great-grandson, Beau, whom he cherished; sisters, June Smith (Winston), Bel Wilkins (Ted, deceased), Rae Cuff (Lloyd, deceased) and Brenda Barnes (Eric); as well as many other beloved family and friends. In keeping with Don's wishes, he will be cremated. There will be no visitation or funeral. A private interment will take place at a later date. ROSE, RUBY
It's with great sadness that the family of Ruby Rose (nee Ayers) announces her passing on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at the age of 80. Ruby was a doting grandmother ("Grammie") and leaves to mourn her daughter Heather' son-in-law Dennis; grandchildren, Seamus and Molly; sister, Grace Howse (David); brothers-in-law, Harvey Rose (Shirley), Earl Rose (Georgia), Gordon Rose (Juanita); sisters-in-law, Ada Hollett, Carolann Rose (Scott) and Doreen Grandy (George), numerous cherished nieces and nephews; special cousins, Pauline, Sheila, Beulah, Et, Greta Ayers and many many more; lifelong friends, Paula Ennis, Anne and Eric Freeborn, Mary Freake, Mildred Prince, John and Sharon Walsh, Glenn and Linda Elford. Ruby was born in 1942 in the now resettled community of Point Crewe on the Burin Peninsula. She moved to nearby Fortune with her family in the early 1950's. Ruby attended teacher's college in St John's finishing in 1961. She went on to teach in St. Phillip's and Corner Brook before returning home to Fortune to teach at Haddon Academy, and in later years Lake Academy and Fortune Collegiate. Ruby was predeceased by her parents, Stanley Ayers (1965) and Effie Ayers (1993); husband, Douglas Rose (1997); and brother, Calvin Ayers (2017). She moved to Ottawa in 2015 to be closer to her young grandchildren, her pride and joy. In her memory please consider making a donation to a charity or non profit in your area that supports people with autism and/or perform a random act of kindness in your community. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Newfoundland. "All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my mother"

TIBBO, CLARA CYNTHIA
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother Clara Cynthia Tibbo (Rideout) of Grand Bank at age of 77 years. Left to mourn her loss and cherish her memories husband Bill of 57 years; 2 children Kim (Wayne) Thornhill of St. John's and Colin (Carol) Tibbo of St. John's and adoring grandchildren Heidi, Kurtis, Kent, and William; Sister Olive (Bob) Hillier of New Brunswick; Geraldine Piercey of Fortune; sisters-in-law Ella (Alec) Noseworthy of Fortune, Patsy Russell of Grand Bank; brother-in-law Wayne (Winnie) Tibbo of Mount Pearl; special nieces and nephews and a large circle of very special friends. Predeceased by parents Elizabeth and Edgar Rideout ; brother Frank Rideout; parents-in-law Eliza and Gordon Tibbo. Clara was a teacher with many talents, she was an artist, poet, and she loved to sew and knit. She loved to travel especially to Florida. She could teach herself anything and loved to teach others. Anything she did was done with perfection. In keeping with Clara's wishes cremation has taken place. Family will be accepting visitors at Serenity Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Saturday 7-9PM and Sunday 2-4PM and 7-9PM. Funeral Service will be Monday at 2PM from Serenity Chapel for family and close friends. In her memory donations may be made to United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank or flowers gratefully accepted.
