Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour.
All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BANFIELD, OLIVE S.
1956-2012
Passed peacefully, away after a long and courageous battle with cancer at The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Friday February 10, 2012, Olive S. Banfield of Bay L'Argent in her 55th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are husband Lewis; sons Richard and Mark; brothers Maxwell (Catherine) Scott, Clyde (Elsie), Samuel (Diane), Guy (Sharon), Brian (Sandi); and sisters Shirley (Clarence) Bullen, Elsie and Gloria; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Pre-deceased by parents George and Elizabeth; sister Lillian Martin. Resting and visitation to take place at St. Hilda's Anglican Church in Bay L'Argent on Saturday, February 11th from 7 pm; and Sunday, October 12th, all day. Funeral service will take place on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 2:00 pm from St. Hilda's Anglican Church in Bay L'Argent. Interment to follow at the St. Hilda's Anglican Cemetery in Bay L'Argent. CHEESEMAN, JOSEPH RICHARD
1925-2012
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Richard Cheeseman of Rushoon, announces his passing at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's, NL on Tuesday February 7, 2012 at the age of 86. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is his Wife Mary of 66 years; Sons Howard (Partner Bernard M.) O'Keefe of St. John's, Aiden of Rushoon, James (Maureen) of Rushoon, Fred of Rushoon, Joseph (Jessie) of Oshawa, ON; Daughters Gertrude (Terrence) Ricketts of St. John's, Anna Marie (Emmanuel) Schembri of Toronto, ON; Brother Daniel Cheeseman of Rushoon; Sister-in-law Adele Cheeseman of St. John's, Susan (Ed) Norman of St. John's; Brother-in-law Michael (Priscilla) Dicks; 17 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren; Plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by: Parents Joseph &Ann Marie Cheeseman; Sons Michael and Gerard; Daughter Gertie and Daughter-in-law Bernadette Cheeseman Resting and Visitation to take place at Christ The King R.C. It is with great sadness that the family of the late THOMAS DOBER of Spanish Room, announces his passing at Blue Crest Interfaith Home in Grand Bank, NL on Thursday February 9, 2012 at the age of 84. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Marion of 37 years; daughter Theresa (Danny) Martin of Spanish Room; sister Helen Thorne; brothers Bern (Lenora), Jerome and Hubert; grandchild Jacob; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Pre-deceased by his parents John & Theresa Dober; sisters Bridget Brake, Mary Rideout, Maude Dober and Rita Barry; sister-in-law Leona Dober; brothers-in-law Maurice Hennebury, Arch Thorne, Don Brake, Edward Rideout and Richard Barry. FRANCIS, Ruby R.
(July 22, 1918 - February 28, 2012)
Passed peacefully away at Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank on Tuesday, February 28, 2012, Ruby Roy Francis of Grand Bank, age 93 years. Predeceased by husband Charles & infant daughter Phyllis. Leaving to mourn: daughters: Lily Rogers (Tom), Hazel Douglas (Fred),& Berdena Mullins; sons: John (Lorraine), Jim (Lorraine) & Barry. Also a large number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, and a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Wednesday from 10 am - 12 pm (FAMILY ONLY); then for public from 2 pm - 4 pm; 7 pm - 9 pm. Thursday from 10 am - 12 pm; 2 pm - 4 pm; 7 pm - 9 pm. Funeral Service will take place from the Salvation Army Grand Bank at 2 pm on Friday. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army Cemetery Fund. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Son Garrett (Ursula) of Marystown; Daughters Susan (Sam) Tobin of St. Lawrence, Oliva Pike (Robert Hobie) of St. John's, Constance Handrigan of St. Lawrence; Sisters-in-law Madeline Drake and Hannah Drake; 9 Grandchildren Bonnie Tobin, Allison Pike, Paul Tobin, Christian Handrigan, Gregory Handrigan, Keith Pike, Grant Handrigan, John Paul Handrigan and Joshua Handrigan; 8 Great-Grandchildren: Victoria Pike, Samuel Pike, Mila & Lucy Pike, Gregory & Maria Tobin, Nolan & Owen Handrigan; Pre-deceased by husband Gregory (1982); Infant son John Patrick; Parents Patrick & Susanna Drake; Brother Joseph Michael Drake, Leslie Drake and William Drake. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on February 10, 2012, Mark Hillier of Fortune, age 93 years. Predeceased by son Clyde. Leaving to mourn: his wife of 66 years, Susie; daughters June (Clayton) of Corner Brook, Lillian (Bill) of Grand Bank, Ruby, Grand Bank, Norma (Glenn) of Goose Bay, Janice (Randy) of Mount Pearl; sons Aubrey (Carole) of Fortune, Roy (Judy) of Marystown, Raymond (Denise) of Grand Falls; daughter-in-Law Rosalind of Cox's Cove; also a large number of grandchildren & great grandchildren, also a large circle of other relatives & friends. Remains resting at All Saints Anglican Church, Fortune. Visitation starting at 5pm on Saturday and all day Sunday. Funeral Service on Monday at 2 pm from All Saints Church, Fortune. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons Pius (Isabel) of Terrenceville, Joseph (Melita) of Medicine Hat, and Stan (Rhona) of Mount Pearl; daughters Rebecca Hickey (Gus) of Terrenceville, Mary Blum (Peter) of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Theresa Power (Max Rodway) of Creston South, and Christina Banfield (Clarence) of Labrador City; 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by husband Joseph; sons George and Norman, parents Stephen and Elizabeth Cox. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Bridgett Power-Dagenais of Halifax, formally of Mooring Cove, announces her passing at home in the arms of her loving husband on Wednesday February 15, 2012 at the age of 57. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are husband of 26 years and her best friend of 30 years John Dagenais; brothers John (Irene) of Medicine Hat, AB, Raymond (Mary), Patrick (Debbie), Gerald, Eric (Sandra) and George (Barbara); sisters Diane (Frank) Dober, Carm (Les) Holley and Marie (Colin) Hodder and their families all of Marystown; brother-in-law Albert (Cheryl) Dagenais & family in Halifax; sisters-in-law Theresa Power of Marystown and Kathy Power of Edmonton AB; long-time special friend Marybeth Fall; plus a large circle of family and friends. Passed away on February 23, 2012, at the age of 82. Predeceased by his daughter, Cathy (Hardy). Leaving to mourn his wife of 56 years Jean; son Philip; sister Margaret (Pike); sister-in-law Ruby (Borland); son-in-law Ted Hardy; and two wonderful granddaughters: Beth Hardy and Brooke Riggs.
