Burin Peninsula Obituaries
February 2010

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

GRANDY, Emma
(September 30, 1920 - February 16, 2010)

Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Blue Crest Home in the presence of her family, Emma Grandy of Garnish, age 89 years. Predeceased by parents William and Sarah Grandy; husband Alfred; children Rowena, Darrell and Randy; brothers Raymond and George. Leaving to mourn daughters Effie May(Lawrence), Bertha May (Phillip), Louetta Croft (Terry); sons Leighton, Charles (Ruby), Raymond (Pat), Bruce (Theresa)and Bernard (Marceda); 21 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren, also a large circle of other family and friends. Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army Home League, Garnish. Resting at the Salvation Army Church, Garnish on Wednesday and Thursday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 6pm - 10pm. Date and time of funeral service to be announced later.

HANHAM, Alexander J.
(January 11, 1927 - February 2, 2010)

Passed peacefully away at the Grand Bank Health Centre on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, Alexander J. Hanham of Grand Bank, age 83 years. Predeceased by parents Mary and Alfred Hanham, sisters Janet Patten (Fox Trap), Annie Brown (Lewisport), son Cluney Hanham and daughter June Rose. Leaving to mourn: wife Lorraine Hanham, sons Lawrence (Alma), Wayne (Teese), Maxwell (Elizabeth), John, Howard (Jody), Keith (Esther), daughters Elaine (Gordon), Sharon (Gary), Bernice (Roy), Karen, Marie (Claude), Shirley (David), Michelle (Darrell) and Roxanne (Brett). Thirty grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 5pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday at 2pm from St. Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank. Interment to follow at St. Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

HERRIDGE, Henry
(September 23, 1923 - February 10, 2010)

Passed peacefully away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank on Wednesday, February 10th, Henry Herridge of Fortune, age 86 years. Predeceased by parents Arthur and Lucy Herridge, wife Sophie, sisters Mabel Pope, Elsie Myles and Fay Hatch. Leaving to mourn:2 daughters Fay Herridge of Fortune and Marie Strickland (Eric) of Brooks, Alberta. 4 grandchildren: Chris (Valerie) of Clarenville, Nicolas (Wanda) of Grand Bank, Bradley (Heather) of Brooks, Alberta, and Jocelyn (Chris) of Brooks, Alberta. 9 great grandchildren. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank on Thursday and Friday from 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral Service will take place on Saturday at 11am from the United Church, Fortune. Donations in his memory may be made to the United Church Cemetery Fund, Fortune. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

HOLLETT, Jamie Oswald
(August 17, 1943 - February 26, 2010)

Passed peacefully away at the Leonard A. Miller Center, St. John's on Friday, February 26th, 2010, Jamie Oswald Hollett of Grand Bank, age 66yrs. Predeceased by parents Eva and Oswald Hollett, father and mother in-law Gordon and Emily Rose, brother-in-law Douglas Rose, and niece Natalie Butler. Leaving to mourn: wife Ada of Grand Bank, brother Robin/Gloria Hollett of Deer Lake, sister Karen/Bill Butler of Deer Lake, brothers-in-law Earl/Georgie Rose of Fortune, Harvey/Shirley Rose of Alberta, Gordie/Juanita Rose of Grand Bank, sisters-in-law Doreen/George Grandy of Grand Bank, Carolann Rose of Mount Pearl, and Ruby Rose of Fortune. Also a large circle of nephews, nieces and friends. Remains resting at All Saints Anglican Church Fortune on Sunday and Monday. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday at 2pm from All Saints Church, Fortune. Interment to follow at All Saints Anglican Cemetery, Fortune. Donations in his memory may be made to Retired Teachers' Foundation for (Disabled) Children's Charities. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.
