Burin Peninsula Obituaries
February 2008

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

CLARKE, Walter Augustus
7/23/1947-2/20/2008

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on February 20th, 2008 Walter Clarke of Little St. Lawrence in his 60th year.Leaving to mourn wife Barbara; sons Billy James of Little St. Lawrence and Dan and wife Lisa of Houston, BC; daughters Nancy of St. John’s, Priscilla and husband Wayne Edwards of Saint John, NB and Nikita of Saint John, NB; Grandchildren Joshua, Rebecca, Noah, Christopher, Jena, Jeffrey and Jasmine; special friend Moe Clarke; sisters Catherine and husband James Fowler of Toronto, Mary and husband Robert Antle of St. John’s and Rose Clarke of Montreal; brothers Paul Clarke and wife Mercedes of Little St. Lawrence, Don and wife Mary of Little St. Lawrence, Gary and wife Edith of Little St. Lawrence and Cyril and wife Shirley of Kingston, Ontario. Plus a large circle of other family and friends.Predeceased by parents Joseph and Priscilla; brother Ignatius and brother-in-law John Rivard.Resting at St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Church, St. Lawrence on Friday, February 22nd from 7 to 9 PM, Saturday and Sunday from 10 to 12pm, 2 to 4pm & 7- 9pm Funeral Mass to take place from St. Thomas Aquinas Parish Church, St. Lawrence on Monday at 10am with interment to follow at Mount Cecilia In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the family.Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin. LAKE, Rita Marie
12/9/1920-7/29/2008

A survivor of tuberculosis in the 50s, our dear, devoted and loving Mom succumbed to her latest bout of pneumonia that filled her scarred lungs on Tuesday, July 29, 2008. Predeceased by her husband, Clyde Lake, she leaves to mourn her forever grateful children, Sandy Lake (Mary) of St. Lawrence, Flora Romanec (Danny) of Orillia, Ont, Sharon Gulliver (Don) of Ottawa and Ray Lake (Cyndie) of Goulds, seven grandsons, Corey, Dwaine, Darrell, Craig, Ryne, Kale and Joel, one granddaughter, Yolanda, six great grandsons, Evan, Grant, Adam, Preston, Kyle and Austin, her brother, Don Turpin of St. John’s and her sister Adele Tomalty of Montreal. A very caring, unselfish person and a devoted Catholic, our Mom will be missed by her many friends with whom she faithfully prayed her Novenas and Masses and each person whose life she touched. Our greatest appreciation is extended to the staff at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre for the tender care extended to our Mom during her last days. Visitations will take place at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, St. Lawrence, Wednesday and Thursday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with the Wake Service celebrating her life beginning at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 .m. on Friday, August 1, 2008. Our Mom loved her garden so flowers are gratefully accepted or, for those who choose, a donation to her beloved parish, St. Thomas Aquinas Wake Room Fund, would be deeply appreciated. MAY, Maxine Elsie
(September 5, 1967 - February 25, 2008)

Passed away suddenly at the Grand Bank Health Care Centre on Monday February 25th, Maxine E. May of Grand Bank, formerly of Garnish, age 40 years. Predeceased by Mother Elizabeth. Leaving to mourn: father Eric May of Grand Bank, sisters Kathy May of Grand Bank, Patsy May of Marystown, brother Bill May(Andrea) London Ont, three nephews, four neices, three great nieces ,also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Tim Graham from Saint Alban's Anglican Church, Grand Bank on Friday, February 29th at 2pm. Interment followed at Saint Alban's Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory may be made to the family. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bnk; "Where Dedicated People Care."
