Burin Peninsula Obituaries
December 2011

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BARTLETT, Newman
(August 11, 1939 - December 3, 2011)
Passed away at Hoyles Escasoni Home in St. John's on Saturday, December 3rd, 2011, Newman Bartlett of Grand Bank, age 72 years. Predeceased by parents, Thomas and Marjorie Bartlett. Leaving to mourn wife Lily, daughter Cavell (Walt) and two special grandchildren Brittany and Matthew, Sister Eileen Nurse of Grand Bank, Brother-in-law Tom (Maxine) Rose of St. Phillips and Sister-in-law Winnie Purdy (David deceased) of Toronto. Nieces Pamela Purdy and Stephanie Dyer and nephews Peter and Trent Nurse. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home for public visitation on Monday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral Service will take place from Grand Bank United Church at 2pm on Tuesday, December 6th. Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in his memory may be made to Grand Bank United Church or to Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland & Labrador. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

COOMBS, RALPH W.
1935-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late RALPH W. COOMBS of Terrenceville, announces his passing at The Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Monday December 5, 2011 at the age of 76. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Wife Marie of 57 years; Son Fabian (Michelle) of Labrador City; Daughters Mercedes and Yvonne both of Terrenceville; Sister Helen (Leo) Clarke of Terrenceville; 13 Grandchildren; 9 Great-Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by parents William & Margaret Coombs, sister Anne Hickey, son Ralph Coombs and daughter Anne Bolt. Resting and Visitation to take place at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Terrenceville on a date and time be announced. Flowers gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes. 1957-2011
It is with great sadness that the family of the late EDWARD DUCEY (NED) of Toronto, ON, formerly of Marystown, announces his passing at Sunnybrook Hospital in Scarborough, ON on Monday December 12, 2011 at the age of 54. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Son Michael of Toronto; Sisters Ann Marie Hodder (Tom), Regina Peach (Bill), Alice Chislett (Winse), Bride Ducey (Bruce), Margaret Grandy (Marven), Elizabeth Lake (Charlie), and Beatrice Kelly (Barry); Brothers Peter (Mary), Austin (Margaret Rose), Mike (Jackie), Gerald (Juanita), and David (Debbie); 1 Grandchild Nicholas; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by Parents Michael Patrick & Sarah Ducey. Cremation has taken place. Visitation to take place at Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Marystown on Wednesday December 14th from 10am - 9pm. Mass will take place on Thursday December 15, 2011 at 12:10pm from Sacred Heart RC Church in Marystown. In Edward's memory, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Madeline of 47 years; sons Boyd of Lawn, Brad (Tanya) of Lawn, and Teddy (April) of Lawn; daughter Kim (Paul Slaney) of St. Lawrence; sisters Violet Edwards, Alice Edwards, Betty Strang, Margaret Farrell, Muriel Strang, Charlene Roul, and Evelina Edwards; brothers Arnold Edwards, Fred Edwards, Michael Edwards and Terry Edwards; 9 grandchildren Stefan, Jordi, Kristina, Brad Nicholas, Mackinley, Kaleam, Sheila, Maddi and Gavin; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by parents Edward & Evelina Edwards. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Wife Margaret of 46 years; Sons Ronald (Amy) of Burin and Jerome of Burin; Daughters Susan Cooper (Paul) of St. John's, Karen (Jeff Andrews) of Marystown, and Petula (Joseph Kearney) of St. John's; Sisters Madeline Melay of St. John's, Mary Ann (Francis) Mullett of St. Mary's and Elizabeth (Aloysious) Lake of St. Brides; Brothers John Manning of Mount Pearl and Willis Manning of Ontario; Sister-in-law Mary Ann Manning of Ontario; 11 Grandchildren; 3 Great-Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by Parents Ronald & Mary Ann Manning, brother Willis, brother-in-law William Melay, sister-in-law Catherine Manning and nephew Benedict Manning. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Son Carl of Medicine Hat, AB; Daughter Irene (Norman) Hickey of Grand Le Pierre; Sister Evelyn of Port Aux Basques; Brother William (Ada) Myles of Corner Brook; 7 Grandchildren Glen, Dwayne, Carl, Priscilla, Patti-Lynn, Triston, and Jasmine; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by Wife Mary, Parents John & Julia Myles, Sister Lillian and Brother John. Resting and Visitation to take place at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Grand Le Pierre on Monday January 2nd beginning at 2pm; and Tuesday all day. Funeral Service will take place from St. Thomas Anglican Church in Grand Le Pierre on a date and time to be announced. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Terrenceville. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on Thursday, December 8, 2011, Charles Cecil Parsons of Grand Bank, age 58 years. Predeceased by parents, Gabriel & Gertrude Parsons, & sister Adele Edwards. Leaving to mourn: wife Kathy, son Travis (Pam), daughter Natasha (Damon); grandchildren Jenna Charlie Faith, Kaitlyn Olivia Marlene, & Liam Philip Charles; sisters, Ruby Haley, Gloria Strang & John, Linda Papail (Louis), Madonna King (Don), Margaret Wells (Perry); brothers, Gabriel (Winnie), Peter (Rita), Patrick (Mildred), Max (Elsie), Cyril (Shirley), Albert (Roberta), Frank (Jeanette), Gerry (Pearl), brother-in-law Gilbert Edwards & father & mother in law Sam & Shirley Ralph. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home on Thursday from 7pm - 9pm for FAMILY ONLY, then public viewing on Friday & Saturday from 10am - 12pm; 2pm - 4pm; 7pm - 9pm. Funeral service will take place on Sunday at 2pm from Grand Bank United Church. Interment to follow at United Church Cemetery,Grand Bank.

ROSE, Nancy Julia
(July 23, 1969 - December 29, 2011)
Passed away at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook on Thursday, December 29, 2011, Nancy Julia Rose, formerly of Grand Bank, age 42 years. Predeceased by father Henry, baby sister, grandparents Joseph & Ella Mae English & Reginald & Julia Rose. Leaving to mourn: mother Susie, Partner Michael Power & children, Melissa, Cody & Breanna, also Stephen & Joy Power. Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral Service was conducted by Majors Lyndon & Lisa Hale from the Salvation Army, Grand Bank at 2 pm on Monday, January 02, 2012. Interment followed at St. Albans Anglican Cemetery, Grand Bank. Music was provided by the String Band. Pall Bearers were: Mike Power, Stephen Power, Tony English, Robert Dolimount, Perry Pierce & Freeman Rose.
