BAKER, Cora
(July 30, 1928 - August 3, 2014)

It is with great sadness the family of Cora Baker of Burin announces her passing at the US Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence on August 3, 2014, at the age of 86 years. Leaving to mourn husband Gordon; son Lloyde ; grandchildren Michelle, Shawn and Krista; sister Mildred (Harold); son in law Harvey Isaacs; brothers in law Bill Kirby, Clyde Baker (Marie); Albert Baker (Barbara); sister in law Ettie; many nieces and nephews plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by daughter Ruby Baker (Isaacs) and sister Edith Kirby. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home Monday, August 4th 7-9 pm Family only, Tuesday and Wednesday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. (1922-2014)
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Esther Cox of Terrenceville announces her passing at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Centre in St. Lawrence, NL, on Thursday, August 7, 2014, at the age of 92. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are son Don (Dorothy) Cox of Lower Sackville, NS; daughter Eileen (Joe) Rideout of Terrenceville; sister Theresa Coombs of Terrenceville; 7 Grandchildren Sonya, Vicki, Shannon, Janice, Jody, Stephanie and Sheldon; 8 great-grandchildren Emma, Kayla, Keigan, Mia, Marcus, Anishka, Alejandro and Linden; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband John Cox; Baby Girl Marjorie; Sisters Gladys, Elizabeth, Alice and Irene; and brothers George, Pat and John. Passed peacefully away at Burin Health Care Center on Tuesday August 19, 2014 Earl Dodge of Grand Bank age 79 Years. Predeceased by parents Randell and Catherine Dodge, 3 sisters; Meta, Sarah, and Phoebe. Leaving to mourn; wife Ellen, 3 sons Fred (Susan), Barry (Connie), and Ron (Tracey), 1 daughter Rosalind (Barry), 6 grandchildren; Ali (Brian), Joshua, Mitchell, Heidi, Sarah, & Tristan, 2 great grandchildren; Morley, and Elias. Plus a large circle of other relatives and friends Cremation has taken place. JACKMAN, Douglas
(March 2, 1948 - August 5, 2014)

It is with great sadness and heart breaking sorrow that the family of Douglas Jackman announces his passing at home on August 5, 2014. Doug was born in Grole on March 2, 1948 to Gordon and Susanna Jackman. Doug attended Memorial University and spent most of his teaching career in Grand Bank. He married Doreen (Strickland) of Milltown, Bay D'espoir and had two children. Doug will be remembered for his community involvement, his enjoyment of teaching and his love of family, friends and the outdoors. Doug was an avid sports fisherman and outdoorsman and relished his time at the cabins on the Long Harbour River and in Millertown, and his trips to the Gander River. Doug is survived by his loving wife, Doreen, and children, Paulette (Eben March) and Doug (Lavinia Sutton); his grandchildren, Laura and Maria; brothers Gordon (Marilyn), Wayne, Harvey (Bella), Clifford (Mary), Gary (Vera), Geoff (Joanne) and Danny (Brenda); sisters Shirley (Nat), Mary (Willie), Ruth (Lew) and Kay; brothers-in-law Ross (Joan) and Jim (Marion); sisters-in-law Sharon, Rosemary (Conrad), Debbie (Gerard), Phyllis (Dave), Grace (Larry), Dora (Cec) and Louise (John); and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Gordon and Susanna Jackman; brothers Henry and Lloyd; and in-laws Reginald and Myrtle Strickland. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. Neal Buffett, and Rev. Lochleigh Fiander on Friday August 8th at 2 pm from St Alban's Anglican Church Grand Bank. Music was provided by Velma Stewart, Don Mavin, and Jim Piercey. Urn Bearers were; Paulette Jackman, and Doug Jackman. Inurnment to follow at at a later date. Doug will be greatly missed by us all. MATTHEWS, Florence Maria
(January 30, 1926 - August 16, 2014)

It is with heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother and Nan, Florence (Rose) Matthews age 88 at the Blue Crest Nursing Home in Grand Bank on August 16, 2014. She was the eldest daughter of the late Wesley and Grace (Bungay) Rose. Predeceased by her husband Norman (August 16, 2009) brothers, Charlie, Ralph,Gerald, Clyde, and Gordon. Leaving to mourn, daughters, Norma Reynolds (Mike) Nova Scotia, Janice (Rocky) Bishop (Majors), Ontario. Grandchildren, Micheal Reynolds, Timothy Reynolds, and Jillian Bishop(Chris) and great granddaughter Jaidyn Cormier Reynolds (Tim). Brother Ron (Rita) Marystown, sisters, Gladys Snook, Marie Drodge (Gerry) of St John's, Betty Kent, Bishop's Falls. Special cousin Ada Hollett Grand Bank. It is with great sadness the family of Clement Penney of Burin announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on August 24, 2014, at the age of 93 years. Leaving to mourn daughters Mary Penney (Francis) of BC and June Beazley (Terry) of Manitoba; grandchildren Tyler, Spencer, Zach, Logan, Melissa and Dege; great grandchildren Kya, Oden and Lauralynn and special niece Dot Antle plus a large circle of other family and friends. PIDGEON, JOHN JOE
(1933-2014)

A man of few spoken words, but a man who spoke volumes through his accordion music; a man who loved his family first and foremost - the same man whose family lovingly and proudly shared him with thousands of friends and strangers; a man that honestly earned the right to be proud of his talent - but a man that was always very humble in its delivery; a man who, because of his special gift, will live forever.
It is with a sense of sadness and loss that the family of John Joe Pidgeon of Marystown announces his passing at the U.S. Memorial Health Care Center in St. Lawrence, on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at the age of 81 years. It is also with a sense of joy and happiness that we were blessed with the opportunity to love him as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, while at the same time witnessing the community affection for him as a musician who so willingly shared his love and passion for music. Left with joyful memories are his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth; sister, Mary Matthews (Clarence House); sons, Joseph (Brenda) and Richard; daughters, Julia (Ray) Mitchell, Charlotte Mitchell (Tony Mayo), Catherine (Brendan) Pretty, Ella Jackson (Dennis George), Jackie (Steve) Flannigan, Maureen (Albert) Linehan, Agnes, Barbara Fitzpatrick (Deena King), Marguerite (Randy) Smith, Velma (Randy) Parsons and Linda (Darryl) Hodder; sisters-in-law, Alice (Ernest) Farrell, Kathleen (Howard) Dober and Beatrice Barry, 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren and so many others who loved and respected him. The angels have put down their harps and are clapping their hands to some of the finest accordion music ever heard. Abbie was born on November 4, 1925 at Little Bay East, NL to Aaron and Sarah Miles. Abbie married her true love, Edgar Price of Brunette Island on June 30, 1942. Left to mourn are sons, John (Alberta), Les (Mary), George (Shirley Luscombe), Wilson (Linda) and Wayne (Diane) and daughters Laura Trimm, Vera Harris (Gord), Betty (Larry Langdon) and Janice Meade (Wayne). It is with great sadness the family of Randell Smith of Brookside announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on August 28, 2014 at the age of 80 years. Leaving to mourn wife Lucy Bragg; son Frank Bragg of Brookside; daughters Heather Bragg (John) of Marystown and Noreen Smith (Clifford) of Brookside; grandchildren Nicole, Michelle, Spring and Mavis; great grandchildren Mckenzie, Nathan, Nicholas and Hunter; sisters Hilda Saunders (Bill), Carrie Matterface, Jean Walthers, Maude Walters and Linda Parsons (Ralph); brother Joseph Smith (Olga) plus a large circle of other family and friends. Passed away at Grand Bank on August 6, 2014, William A. Walters, age 68 years. Predeceased by his wife Susie, sons, Frankie and Craig; his parents, Charles and Hazel Walters and sister Judy. Leaving to mourn daughters, Judy (Philip), Donna (Weldon), and son Adrian (Troy). 5 brothers - Edwin(Ruth); Lloyd (Pearl); Randy (Lynn); Jack (Shelly) and Lester. 3 sisters, Phyllis (Edward); Wanda and Ruby (Roy). 7 grandchildren - William, Joshua, Andrew, Mahala, Jonathan, Noah and Kali; and one great grandson Oliver Loveless. Visitation will take place on Friday August 08th, 7 pm-9 pm (Family Only). Public visitation on Saturday August 9th 2 pm-4 pm and 7 pm-9 pm Private Family Funeral Service will take place at a time and date to be announced. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery Grand Bank. Donations in William's memory may be made to the family. Passed peacefully away at the Glenbrook Lodge, St. John's, NL, on Thursday, August 07, 2014, THELMA JEANETTE WISCOMBE, of Creston South, NL, in her 84th year. Leaving to mourn her loving children Graham (Phyllis), Gimli, MB, Karl (Margie), Fort McMurray, AB, Kerry (Goldie), Lewins Cove, daughters Brenda Ralph (Glenn), Marystown, and Lynda Gillingham (Lee), Fort McMurray, AB; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother Doug Skirving, St. John's, and Ron Skirving (Joan), St. John's; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband Alvin. Cremation has taken place. Visitation with the family will be at Peninsula Funeral Home, Sunday, Aug. 10, from 2 - 9 pm . The funeral service will be held at St. Michael's Anglican Church, Creston South, on Monday , August 11, at 11:00 am. Inurnment will be at the Anglican Church Cemetery in Creston South.
