Burin Peninsula Obituaries

August 2010

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BAKER, Onslow
(October 8, 1937 - August 17, 2010)
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, Onslow Baker of Harbour Mille, in his 72nd year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are: Wife Audrey Baker, daughters Beverly Cooper (Bruce) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Bonnie Dominix (Carl) of Hr. Mille, son Tony Baker (Lisa)of Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, daughter Shelley Baird (Parish) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, mother & father in law Jim & Ethel Pardy of Harbour Mille, 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Remains resting at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Harbour Mille on Tuesday at 3 pm, and on Wednesday. Funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 pm from St. Mary's Anglican Church, Harbour Mille. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery, Harbour Mille. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

BOND, Ann
(August 15, 1940 - August 5, 2010)
Passed away at her residence in Grand Bank on Thursday, August 5, 2010, Ann Bond, age 69 years. Predeceased by parents John and Sarah Molloy, brothers Tom and Randell; Leaving to mourn: husband Clarence, son Kevin (Joanne) and daughter Kimberley (Mike Mavin), and granddaughter Hannah, sister Myrtle Bond. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

CHEESEMAN, ERIC J.
1928-2010
It is with great sadness that the family of the late ERIC J. CHEESEMAN of Rushoon announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Thursday August 12, 2010 at the age of 81. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Irene of 58 years; son Michael (Lisa) Cheeseman of Beau Bois; granddaughter Kassandra; brothers Daniel Cheeseman and Joseph Cheeseman; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by parents Joseph & Ann Maria Cheeseman; brothers John, Fred and Charles; and sisters Melinda, Annie, Laura and Bridget. Resting and Visitation to take place from Christ The King R.C. Church in Rushoon on Friday August 13th from 10:00am to 10:00pm and Saturday August 14th starting at 10:00am. Prayer Vigil to take place at Christ The King R.C. Church in Rushoon on Friday August 13th at 8pm. Funeral Mass to take place at Christ The King R.C. Church in Rushoon on Saturday August 14, 2010 at 5:00pm. Interment to follow at Christ The King R. Date of Birth: August 19, 1963

Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on August 14, 2010 Karen Cleal of Epworth age 46 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband Fred; sons Ryan and Paul; daughter Keri all of Epworth; sisters Mabel Moulton (Gerald) of Epworth, Lillian Walsh (Jack) of St. Lawrence, Pauline Beazley (Dave) of Epworth and Bonnie Tobin (Chuck Jarvis) of Epworth; brother Joe Manning (Paula) of St. Philip's; mother-in-law Irene Cleal of Marystown; sisters-in-law Sharon Manning of Epworth and Carletta Power (Dominic) of Burin; brother-in-law Hector Cleal of Marystown; 20 nieces and nephews plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by brother John; parents Flora and Joseph Manning; father-in-law Gordon Cleal and brother-in-law Dale Tobin. Rev. It is with great sadness that the family of the late LIONEL DUCEY of Calgary, AB., formerly of Marystown, announces his passing at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB on Tuesday August 3, 2010 at the age of 41. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories mother Pearl Stapleton and step-father John J. Stapleton of Marystown; brothers Frank (Karen) Ducey of N.S., Cory (Stacey) Ducey of N.B., and Shane (Barbara) Stapleton of ON.; special niece Jaiden Ducey; a large circle of aunts, uncles and cousins as well as other family and friends. Predeceased by father Francis Joseph Ducey Sr.; grandparents Ernest & Hazel Green and Timothy & Ada Ducey. Passed suddenly away as a result of a tragic accident in Torbay, NL, on Aug. 28, 2010, MICHELLE (SHELLEY) BARBARA FAREWELL, formerly of Creston South, in her 39th year. Leaving to mourn her loving children Maggie and Sam Ballam at Torbay; mother Frances Farewell, Creston South, brother Roger (Juanita), Burin, and sister Christine Riggs (David), Burin; grandparents Josiah and Jessie Hodder, Rock Harbour; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many special friends. Predeceased by her father Harvey Farewell. The funeral service was conducted by Rev. John E. K. Nicolle on Aug. 31st, 2010 at 2:00 PM. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories husband Jack of 54 years; sons John and James, both of Fortune; sisters Hilda (Lloyd) Hillier, and Phyllis (Herb) Isaacs; brothers Wilbert Thorne, Jim Thorne, Bob Thorne, Ray Thorne, Gerald Thorne, and Calvin Thorne; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by parents James & Jessie Thorne. Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes.

MARSHALL, TERRY
Date of Birth: October 21, 1948

Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on August 1, 2010 Terry Marshall of Burin age 61 years. Leaving to mourn wife Ursula; son Richard (Tracy) of Pasadena; daughters Kelly Ann (Andrew) of St. John's and Andrea of Edmonton; grandchildren Nickolas, Alexa, Rhys and Gwyn; sister Mary-Lou Marshall; brother Alfred Marshall plus a large circle of other family and friends. Predeceased by parents Richard and Mary Marshall. Father Steve Courtney officiated Funeral Mass from St. Patrick's RC Church, Burin on Friday, August 6th at 1PM with internment following at RC Cemetery, Fox Cove. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Pall Bearers were Brian Power, Brian Antle, Eugene Power, Dennis Roff, Vince Power and Matthew Marshall. Cross Bearer was Randy Penny.

MYLES, FLORENCE FAY
1945-2010

It is with great sadness that the family of the late FLORENCE FAY MYLES of Little Bay East announces her passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Wednesday August 18, 2010 at the age of 64. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; sisters Molly (Eli Harris), and Lucy (Edward Skerry); brothers William (Mary) Myles and Bruce (Anne) Myles; plus a large circle of family and friends. Pre-deceased by parents James & Sylvia Myles. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Service to take place at Salem United Church in Little Bay East on Monday August 30, 2010 at 1:00pm. Inurnment to follow at the United Cemetery in Little Bay East. Passed away at his residence in Fortune on Friday, August 13, 2010, Bertram Scott, age 74 years. Predeceased by parents Clayton and Ellen Scott, wife Mary, son Allan, and sisters Una and Winnie. Leaving to mourn: daughter Barbara (Howard Hillier) of Grand Bank, son Samuel (Tammy) of Niagara Falls, Ontario, 2 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, 2 great grandsons; brothers Jerry (Marion), Cecil (Marion) both of Little Harbour., sisters Ann (Harry Johnson) of St. John's, Ruby (Gerald Stokes) of Wesleyville; brothers-in-law Elias (Mary Dodge) of Fortune, Allan (Marie Dodge) of St. John's, Tom at Alberta; sisters-in-law Doris (John Winsor) of Alberta, Olive(Howard Cousins) of Fortune. Also, a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at All Saint's Anglican Church, Fortune, on Saturday at 2 pm. Date and time of funeral service to be announced later. WALSH, Elizabeth M.
(December 10, 1914 - August 11, 2010)
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care on Wednesday, August 11, 2010, Elizabeth M. Walsh of Lord's Cove, age 95 years. Predeceased by husband Bertram, daughter Theresa, daughter-in-law Jane, sons Freeman, James and Fred, and brother Vincent. Leaving to mourn: sons Max (Elizabeth) at P.E.I., John at Lord's Cove, Bertram (Pat) at St. John's, Jason (Denise) at Point May, Owen (Krista) at Yellowknife and Todd (Monica) at St. John's; daughters Sylvia at Toronto, Marie at Frenchman's Cove, and Molly(Ron) at St. John's; 29 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren. Also a circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at St. Elizabeth's Church, Lord's Cove on Thursday and Friday. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday at 10 am. Interment to follow at St. Elizabeth's Cemetery, Lord's Cove. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

WOODLAND, Lloyd Heber
(September 9, 1931 - August 21, 2010)
Passed away at his residence in Lamaline on Saturday, August 21, 2010, Lloyd Heber Woodland, age 78 years. Predeceased by parents Sidney and Deborah Woodland, wife Betty, sisters Violet Hillier, Hilda Cake, Gertrude, Harriett and Elsie Woodland, brothers William, Sidney and Thomas Woodland. Leaving to mourn: Common-law-partner Carol Chartrand, sisters Beatrice and Georgina Hillier, brother John Woodland, sister-in-law Dora Woodland, also Home Care Worker Beverley King, and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial Service was conducted by Rev. Neal Buffett on Wednesday,August 25th at 3:00 p.m.from St.Mary's Anglican Church Lamaline. Inurnment took place at St.Mary's Anglican Cemetery. Organist was Susie Lovell. Urn Bearer was Brian King. Arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.
