BROWN, WILBERT JAMES
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather & brother, Wilbert James Brown, age 90. He passed away suddenly at his home on April 20, 2022. Born in Grand Bank, he was predeceased by his parents Suzanne & Onslow. Leaving to mourn with wonderful and lasting memories his loving wife of 68 years, Ethel; daughter Suzanne (Harry) Anderson, sons James (Phyllis) & Douglas (Kimberlea); grand children Shelby (Jamie), Neil (Nissa), Jennifer (Kirk), Brittany (Brendan), & Gillian; great grandchildren Hayden, Amayah, Avery & Audrey; brother Rev. Donovan Brown (Wendy) & brother in law Frank Dolimount. At the age of seventeen he moved to Fogo to work at the bank and he was always proud that he owned the 1st motorcycle on Fogo Island, a Royal Enfield. As he told the story, the old timers in the community reported to the only RCMP officer in Fogo that there was a one eyed devil spitting fire terrorizing the Island at night. Jim worked all day so only got to drive the bike at night. The RCMP officer having found out that Jim did indeed receive his motorcycle, had him bring it to the wharf to show the old timers that the 1 eyed devil spitting fire was in fact, just his motorcycle. He told this story to anyone who would listen! Jim later moved to Port aux Basque, still working with the bank and he and a good friend started taxi driving on the side for extra cash. Between them they had four cars and would drive back and forth across the island to St. John's on the old dirt roads. In 1951 he moved back to Grand Bank with one single vehicle & he carried on with this job until he retired in 1998. He covered many parts of Newfoundland & met so many people during this time, it was a job he thoroughly enjoyed! He had an amazing memory and could tell you about a restaurant he visited 50 years ago, where it was located, what he had to eat & who was with him! He remembered details in an unbelievable way! Having family and friends around was very special to him and he loved a good party at the shed or a game of cards in L'anse au Loup. He also loved sitting in his big comfy chair with remote in his hand, heat on his feet as he polished off a good book or watched an episode of Coronation Street! To honour Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place & there will be no visitation. A service will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory can be made to the SPCA. Funeral arrangements are under the dignified and compassionate care of Serenity Funeral Home, Grand Bank, NL

LAKE, BONNY LYNN
It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Bonny Lynn Lake of St. John's announces her passing. Bonny passed away at the her residence in St. John's on Monday, January 17, 2022, at the age of 54. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories are her mother, Marion Lake; brother, Danny Lake (Sandra); nephew, Nicholas (Michella); and niece, Katherine; her life-long sister-friend, Darlene (Ken) Noseworthy-Abbott; her aunts, uncles, and cousins-too numerous to mention but all so special; as well as a large circle of friends-including her Saturday night card club and her RCMP family. Bonny was predeceased by father, Harry Lake; grandparents; Myril and Margaret King, Byron and Grace Lake., A Celebration of Life will take place at United Church in Fortune on Saturday, April 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to follow at United Church Cemetery-Fortune. A beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend, Bonny's friends and family were her everything. She loved her niece and nephew as her own and was so supportive of them. Her smile was infectious, her kindness unwavering and she faced any challenge life threw at her with strength and courage. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
Bonny came into this world on April 11, 1967. Whether it was on the walking trails with her friends, adventures with Katherine, shopping, travelling the world, or at work with her RCMP family, Bonny always had energy and time to give to others. She always cherished her time spent with family and her many friends. Bonny was motivated, and guided, by her big heart and her love for family and friends. There was nothing she would not do for either. Every single person touched by Bonny's love and friendship will attest to this. Bonny was very much an "on the go" person. She was an extra-ordinary co-worker, one of a kind person. She truly loved being involved with the RCMP organization, and their activities. Over the years, Bonny was an active volunteer and organizer of many events, and she was their bartender for many years during any RCMP special events. Her beautiful smile, friendly personality and confidence was infectious, and anyone who had the privilege of meeting her, you immediately knew you had a forever friend. This extraordinary woman was a pillar of strength for everyone in her circle. Bonny was very loved by her family, she was generous, and the best supporter of them all. Bonny enjoyed her quiet nights at home hanging out with her mom, Marion, brother Danny, sister-in-law Sandra, and special niece and nephew, Katherine and Nicholas, as much as she enjoyed socializing. Bonny's close friends were everything to her, and she loved and respected them all. She was the best listener, and you always knew if you shared anything personal with Bonny, it would go no further. She was a wonderful confidant. Bonny was our "social butterfly". Whether it was shopping, playing cards, dining out at bars or restaurants, walking our beautiful trails, attending concerts, hanging out on a beach in another country with friends, all of these things made Bonny the happiest, and she made friends everywhere she travelled. We always joked and often said, "look at her again now", because she'd talk to everyone. It is for these reasons and fun times, that it makes saying goodbye to Bonny so difficult-Until we meet again dear friend, you were loved immensely and will be missed by so many. We can say with certainty that Bonny is finally at peace, and for this we are grateful. Our family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Centre. We would like to especially thank Dr. Ahmad, Dr. Greenland, and Dr. Scott Edwards-your guidance, support, compassion, and care for Bonny will never be forgotten. You guide my heart and You guide my hands
I lovingly craft what You have created
Into something that will be treasured
The hours spent working the wood from Your earth
Are my gifts to You and to others
You blessed me with this ability
For that, I am eternally grateful
You gave your only son for me and all others
I am giving you my soul to do your bidding
Look after me Lord, as I work with your wood
When the time comes for me to leave this earth
I pray you welcome this woodworker's soul
To rest by your side for eternity
And keep me safe in Your arms.
Amen

left us to start a new journey on Monday, April 11, 2022, surrounded by loved ones. He was 62. Barry was born in St. Lawrence, NL, a decade after the island joined Confederation. The son of a fluorspar miner, Eugene Slaney, who also passed far too early. He was the first in his family to graduate university, earning a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland. An impassioned naturalist, Barry was a researcher, fisherman, hunter, woodsman, boater, birdwatcher, beachcomber, and amateur historian of our island, always undertaken with an infectious enthusiasm. This was also the centre of his professional life, having spent 32 years with the Federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans in the Pelagic group. Intimately knowing his research subject, he was also the best barbecuer of capelin this side of the Flemish Cap. In 1987, he married Michele Banfield, also from St. Lawrence, and they began their lives together in St. John's in earnest. They are absolute soulmates, having so many wonderful adventures together. Family was everything to Barry, he was the constant, a fixer of anything, who's priority always was to ensure a good life to his ones, no matter what the sacrifice for himself.

his mother, Alice Bolt, his siblings, Darrel, Paul, Derek, Bonnie, and Nancy, their partners, Isadore and Kyle, their children, Kaeley, Suzanne, Tristan, Dustin, Jamie, Mackenzie, as well as further extended family, such as the Bolt and Benteau families.
his best friend and brother-in-law, Cyril Banfield and his family, Cheryl, Erica, Ashton, and Pillar, as Cyril and Barry had many a boil-up by the side of a pond.
close friends and family, such as Holly, Cheryl, Ben, Derek, and Dawn, who would even pretend that he could sing well.
all his DFO friends and colleagues, as well as numerous others in his life, who were inevitably touched by his kindness in some manner.
