Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown
and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

BAKER, Florence
(December 12, 1956 - April 19, 2014)

Passed away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on April 19, 2014, age 58, Florence Baker of Grand Bank. Predeceased by parents William and Elizabeth Lundrigan. Leaving to mourn ; husband Ernest; daughter Pamela (William), Winston (Royseana); 5 grandchildren; Samantha, Savannah, Santana, Morgan, and Julia; father-in-law James Baker; 6 sisters Priscilla, Mary (Bill), Theresa (Al), Rose (Felix), Diane (Ross), and Betty (Stan); 3 brothers William, Alfred (Donna) and Andy (Alice).Plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home April 19th 7-9 PM (family only), April 20th 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM and April 21st 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, April 22 at 10:30 AM from All Saints Anglican Church, Fortune. Interment to follow at SA Cemetery, Grand Bank. Donations in her memory may be made to RC Cemetery Fund or SA Cemetery Fund.

BOWLES, Elizabeth
(February 22, 1934 - April 5, 2014)

It is with great sadness the family of Elizabeth Bowles announces her passing at US Memorial Hospital, St. Lawrence, on April 5, 2014, at the age of 80 years. Leaving to mourn sisters Lorraine Saunders (Baxter), Marie Corcoran (Edward) and Maude Pike (Charle) plus a large circle of extended family and friends, including Robert Mayo (Glenda) and Lavina Hodder (Ray). Predeceased by sisters Helen Rogers and Ivy Bowles; brothers Harold, Maxwell and Urville and parents Oliver and Beatrice Bowles. Resting at Serenity Funeral Home, Burin Saturday 7-9 p.m., Sunday 1-9 p.m. and Monday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place from Calvary United Church, Creston North on Tuesday, 2 p.m. with interment following at United Cemetery, Creston North. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in her memory may be made to the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, Burin.

CAKE, Keith
(August 24, 1947 - April 2, 2014)

Passed suddenly away at his residence in Lamaline on Wednesday April 2, 2014 Keith Cake age 66 years. Predeceased by parents Allan and Lucy Cake, brother Arthur Cake, father in law Esau Bishop, brothers in law Oscar Elms, and Paul Strickland. Leaving to mourn; wife Gladys, 3 children; Douglas (Charlene), Shelley Hewitt (Julian), Colleen Hillier (Tony), 5 grandchildren; Mark, Mackenzie, Matthew, Thomas , and Olivia. Mother in law Mary Bishop, 2 brothers; Edwin (Geraldine), Gilbert (Minnie), 3 sisters; Helen (Frank), Margaret, and Rowena. Plus a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at St. Mary's Anglican Church Lamaline today April 3,2014 at 2 pm and again all day Friday April 4th. Funeral service will take place at St. Mary's Anglican Church Lamaline on Saturday April 5, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery Lamaline. Donations in Keith's memory may be made to the Children's Wish Foundation, or St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery Fund, Lamaline. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home Grand Bank.

DOUGLAS, Ada Lillian
(December 30, 1924 - April 27, 2014)

Mom D has gone home with Dad (Leslie) and her boys Ken, Ned and Randy. Passed peacefully away at the Grand Bank Health Care Center on Sunday April 27, 2014, Ada (Pike) Douglas of Grand Bank age 89 years. Predeceased by parents Thomas and Alice Pike, her husband Leslie, her sons Ken, Ned and Randy, left with many fond memories are her daughter Alice Richardson (Grand Bank) and her son Gary (Lorraine), Chilliwack, BC. Her daughters in law Bernice, Brenda and Ann. As well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, sisters in law, and extended family including her care givers. At her request cremation has taken place. Family visitation only will take place on Thursday May 1st from 11 am-1 pm. Family Service on Thursday May 1st at 2:30 pm at Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank. In Ada's memory donations can be made to a charity of ones choice.

GRANDY, Shirley Rose
(August 29, 1935 - April 25, 2014)

Passed peacefully away at Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Friday April 25, 2014 Shirley Rose Grandy (Parsons) of Grand Bank age 78 years. Predeceased by daughter Deneen Grandy, parents Maude and Charles Parsons. Leaving to mourn; daughters Donna (Harvey) Cluett, Colleen (Darin) King, Tammy (Allan) Hunt, sons Todd (Edna), Troy (Janice), and Travis (Zane). 14 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren, brother Robert Parsons, and sister Melita Bursey. Special friend Jessie Thorne. Favourite cousin Mary Lou Buffett. Plus a large circle of other relatives & friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home on Friday April 25, 7-9pm (Family Only) then on Saturday and Sunday 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place on Monday April 28th at 2 pm from the Salvation Army Citadel Grand Bank. Interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery Grand Bank. Passed peacefully away at Blue Crest Interfaith Home, Grand Bank, NL, on Sunday, April 20, 2014, EDITH MAY LEGGE, of Garnish; leaving to mourn her loving sons Dennis (Frances), Garnish, Wilbert (Angeline), Garnish, Rodney (Joanne), Halifax, NS, Noel (Patsy), Garnish, daughters Cora Day (Herbert), Garnish, Margaret Evans (Carl), Grand Bank, Phyllis (Eric King), Garnish; 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; brother Philip Hollett, Grand Beach, sisters Bessie Smith, Grand Beach, Maude Skanes, St. Johns, Gwen Pardy, Grand Bank, Helen House, Grand Bank; and a large number relatives and friends. Predeceased by her parents Thomas and Bridget Hollett, daughter Eileen, brothers Maurice and William Hollett, and sister Emma Follett. Leaving to mourn her loving daughters Pauline Smith (Ches), Creston North, Norma Mitchell, Edson, AB, Maxine Rideout, (Charles), Marystown, Brenda Hollett (Amos), Lewins Cove, Pansy Moulton (Harold), Creston South; 9 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; sister Violet Brushett, Marystown, brother in law Abel Mayo, Creston North; and a large number relatives and friends. Muriel is predeceased by her husband Thomas, granddaughter Tami Mitchell, sister Rebecca Hodder, and brother Gordon Hillier. Resting at Peninsula Funeral Home, Creston South, on Friday, April 11, 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm, and Saturday, April 12, 2 - 4 pm and 7 - 9 pm. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Ella, son Jerry, Calgary, AB, daughter Colleen (Colin), Fox Cove, special grandson Stephen (Nancy), Lewins Cove; sister Elsie Barrett (Edgar), Creston South, sisters in law Viola Senior, Marystown Retirement Home, and Viola Senior, Winterland; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Morley is predeceased by his parents Emmanuel and Maisie Senior, and by his brothers Cyril, Harvey, and Lester. Cremation will take place. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his Mom, Ursula; sisters, Sarah (John Cheeseman), Laura (Tom Whiffen) and Judy (Angus Whiffen); brother, Sam (Cynthia) Synard; many nieces, nephews and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Clayton.
