Burin Peninsula Obituaries

The area includes from Terrenceville on down to Grand Bank, over to Lamaline, St. Lawrence, Burin, Marystown and down the Peninsula again to Boat Harbour. All the communities are not named but serves the whole of the Peninsula.

 

COX, JOAN
1945-2012

It is with great sadness that the family of the late JOAN COX of Terrenceville announces her passing at her residence in Terrenceville, NL on Saturday April 14, 2012 at the age of 66. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are sisters Mary Jo Roberts of Essex Junction, Vermont, Theresa Vaslett of Terrenceville, Ann (Peter) Hynes of Terrenceville and Dorothy (Gary) Grant of Dartmouth, NS; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by parents Frank and Mary Cox; and brother-in-law Richard Roberts. Resting and visitation to take place from Wiseman's Funeral Homes in Marystown on at a date and time to be announced. Funeral Mass will take place at a date and time to be announced. Cremation to follow. Flowers gratefully accepted. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the care of Wiseman's Funeral Homes.

CUZA, Aubrey F.
(July 15, 1945 - April 10, 2012)
Passed away at Orlando, Florida on April 10, 2012, Aubrey Francis Cuza of Point May, age 66 years. Predeceased by father Herbert, brother Ambrose, sister Goretta. Leaving to mourn: wife Barbara, daughter Elaine(Rick), son Darrell(Trudy), 4 grandchildren Brandon, Ryan, Melissa, Brooke, and a very Special person in his life Malcolm; Mother Anna Mary, sister Marjorie(Anthony), Emily(Lewis), sister Veronica(John), brother Kevin(Marina), Raymond(Bernice), Frank(Cecilia). Also a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. His remains will be resting at The Most Holy Rosary Church, Point May at 11am on Sunday, and all day Monday. Funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday at 11am. Interment to follow at Most Holy Rosary Cemetery, Point May. Donations in his memory may be made to the Cuza family. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Warren's Funeral Home, Grand Bank.

DOUGLAS, Peter
(March 27, 1972 - April 3, 2012)
Passed suddenly away at his residence in St. John's on Tuesday, April 3, 2012, Peter Douglas, age 40 years. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his parents Fred and Marie Douglas, Burin; sister Rhonda and niece Emma, Ottawa; special aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Douglas and Rose families, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place and visitation will be at Warren's Funeral Home in Grand Bank from 2pm - 4pm; and 7pm - 9pm on Saturday, April 7th. Funeral service to take place at Fortune United Church on Monday, April 9th at 2pm. Donations in Peter's memory may be made to Fortune United Church. FARRELL, RAYMOND M.
1951-2012
It is with great sadness that the family of the late RAYMOND M. FARRELL announces his passing at the Health Science Center in St. John's on Monday April 30, 2012 at the age of 60. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his siblings Jean Ann (Clyde), Aloysius (Emily) and Glenn (Patricia); nieces and nephews: Jonathan, Rebecca, Daniel, Rhea, Thomas and Lauren; his dog Rufus; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Predeceased by his parents Cecil and Laura Farrell. Resting and visitation to take place from Carnell's Funeral Home (329 Freshwater Road) in St. John's on Wednesday May 2nd from 7 pm - 9 pm and St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church in St. Lawrence on Thursday May 3rd from 7 pm - 9 pm. Funeral Mass to take place at the St. Thomas Aquinas RC Church on Friday May 4, 2012 at a time to be announced. Interment to follow at the Mt. Cecilia R.C. Cemetery in St. Lawrence. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are Wife Elizabeth of 60 years; Sons Howard (Cindy) of Bay L'Argent, Dereck of St. Bernard's, Austin (Sharon) of Marystown, Dean of Alberta, Colin (Jennifer) of BC., and Jason (Katrina) of Fox Creek, AB.; Daughters Mary (Hubert) Cox of Medicine Hat, AB., Madonna Lundrigan (Kevin Bobbett) of Marystown and Gloria (Gerard) Hodder of St. Bernard's; 15 Grandchildren; 8 Great-Grandchildren; plus a large circle of family and friends. Predeceased by Parents William & Catherine (Whittle) Fewer; 2 Sisters and 3 Brothers. Resting and visitation to take place from Sacred Heart RC Church in St. Bernard's on Wednesday April 25th from 7pm - Closing, and Thursday April 26th All Day. HILLIER, Hector Weymouth
(January 27, 1923 - April 28, 2012)
Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre on April 28,2012, Mr. Hector Weymouth Hillier Age 89 yrs. of Grand Bank. He was a WWII Veteran in the Merchant Marines. Predeceased by wife Mary. Leaving to mourn daughter Betty (Woody) of Grand Bank, sons Lionel (Nina) of Labrador, Reg (Kay) of Wabush, Bill (Elaine) of Carbonear, Hector (Debbie) of Markland and Carl (Joanie ) of Cole Hr.,N.S. One brother Lewis of Dartmouth,N.S.; sisters-in-law Ethel of Cole Hr., N.S.,& Margaret of Grand Bank. Eleven grandchildren & fourteen great grandchildren plus a large circle of relatives and friends. His remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home with public visitation Sunday 7:00-9:00 P.M., Monday 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 P.M., Tuesday 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00P.M. & Wednesday 10:00-12:00 P.M. Funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2:00 P.M. from the United Church, Grand Bank. Flowers or Donations in aid of the United Church Cemetery Fund will be gratefully be accepted.

1926-2012
It is with great sadness that the family of the late BERNARD HYNES of St. Bernard's announces his passing at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre in Burin on Sunday April 29, 2012 at the age of 85. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are many nieces and nephews; sister Loretta Hynes at the Glenbrook Lodge in St. John's; special niece Rosemarie who cared for him for many years; plus a large circle of relatives and friends. Pre-deceased by parents Michael & Bridget Hynes; brothers Sylvester, Stanley, and Aloysius; and sisters Bridget, Olive, Alice, Nora and Ann. Resting and visitation to take place from Sacred Heart RC Church in St. Bernard's on Monday April 30th from 4 pm until closing, and Tuesday May 1st all day. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are wife Shirley of 43 years; sons Randal (Jean Ann) of Lawn, Wade (Krista Kearney) of St. Lawrence, and Kirk (Denise Crewe) of Corner Brook; daughter Shirley (Mike Emberley) of St. Lawrence; sisters Melvina (John) Walker of St. Lawrence, Myra Aggiss (Guy) of BC., Beatrice (Paul) Perry of PEI, Leah (Frank)Harris of BC., Sadie (Roy) Martin of BC; Helen (Moe) Clarke of St. John's and Elizabeth (Sonny) Ferrie of Marystown; brothers Wilson of St. Lawrence, Neil (Rhonda) of Toronto, ON., Gordon (Vivian) of Edmonton, AB., Henry (Joan) of St. Lawrence, Donald (Paula) of St. Lawrence and Richard (Tina) of St. Lawrence; 4 grandchildren Cassandra Lynn Edwards, Kelsey Emberley, Jordan Lambert and Bethany Lambert; plus a large circle of family and friends. Passed peacefully away at her Residence in Grand Bank, April 29, 2012, Mrs. Elsie May Marsh Age 74 yrs. Predeceased by parents John James and Annie Hickman, father and mother-in-law Ernest and Ethel Marsh. Leaving to mourn her husband Claude, daughters Marilyn (Carl Hillier) and Glenda (Clarence Mitchell), grandchildren Pam (Allan Durnford), Robin (Jeff Kelly), Cindy Hillier, Jeffrey Thornhill and Andrew Price. great-grandchildren Owen and Delaney Durnford. Also a large circle of family and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home Grand Bank with visitation 7-9 p.m. Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday. Funeral service to be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 2nd from the Salvation Army Citadel, Grand Bank. In her memory donations gratefully accepted in aid of the Alzheimer's Society. Passed away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Center on Monday, April 9, 2012, Reuben G Ralph of Grand Bank, age 82 years. Predeceased by parents Captain John and Sylvia Ralph; brothers John & Frank. Leaving to mourn: wife Lillian, daughter Beth (George), daughter Jackie, sons Charl (Bonnie), Gus (Linda), daughter Kelly (Dave); grandchildren Janet (Ian), Kirk (Allison), Cameron (Mackenzie); sisters Georgie (Eugene), Arthur (Fronie), Mae (Len). Also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Remains resting at Warren's Funeral Home on Monday from 7 pm - 9 pm (FAMILY ONLY). Then on Tuesday & Wednesday from 10 am - 12 pm; 2 pm - 4 pm; 7 pm - 9 pm. Funeral Service will take place from Grand Bank United Church at 2 pm on Thursday, April 12th.
