SAUNDERS, Howard
Passed in: St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Passed on: September 18th, 2017
Howard Job Saunders
of Traytown - Passed peacefully away at the Caribou Veteran's Pavilion, St. John's, on Monday, September 18, 2017, at the age of 92. The family would first like to thank the beautiful people who cared for our father at the Pavilion. Words cannot express our gratitude for his care during his time as a resident of the Pavilion, especially after the loss of the love of his life, Phyllis, last year. Howard was predeceased by Phyllis, adventure partner of 70 years, baby daughter Marguerite, also much loved parents Robert and Ethel, and siblings Kathleen, Elsie and Albert. He leaves in sorrow his five loving children and families: Jacqueline (Brian); Barbara (Edgar), Alex and Ben; Sharon (Lorne), Christopher (Robyn), great-grandson Orion, and Patrick (Rebecca); Howard Robert; and Kimberley. Also sadly missed by his sisters and their families: Phyllis (George); Ethel (Bruce); Betty (Val); sister-in-law Clarice (Albert). Howard also leaves behind the great friends whom he and Phyllis came to know and cherish in Gander where they raised their family, volunteered and served their community well. He will be especially missed by friends and family in Glovertown, Traytown, and Gambo where he and Phyllis had deep roots. They enjoyed a rich family life, an active faith, unquenchable curiosity and many summers of freedom on the Terra Nova River in their log cabin alongside the Riggs family. Many's the yarn spun, friends made, a scoff shared, card games won and happy songs sung with friends wherever they wandered together. The family welcomes all to a simple funeral service at their much beloved house of worship: St. Edward's Anglican Church, Glovertown on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Edward's Anglican Church or the Ken Diamond Park, Glovertown, as both were dear to his heart.
