It is with heavy hearts that the family of devoted father, grandfather and educator William "Bill" Burry announces his sudden passing on September 24, 2016. Bill was born in Newtown, Bonavista Bay in 1933 to Laura and Clarence later becoming brother to Bonnie. It was there that he developed his great appreciation of nature and the water, which continued throughout his life. He became an educator and his love of teaching and his dedicated, calm and patient nature earned him the respect of countless colleagues and students alike. His wide circle of friends, both old and new, were always welcomed for a visit, whether at his home in Gander, or the family summer home in Newtown. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife of 53 years, Jean, his daughter Denise, son-in-law Terry, his son Dean and daughter-in-law Julia. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart and Bailey, Mark, Blythe and Maeve will certainly miss their Poppy. Also mourning his loss are his brother-in-law Alfred (late sister Bonnie) Marsh and brother- and sister-in-law Roy and Alma Bailey, along with a large, much-loved group of extended family and friends. Funeral service took place on Friday, September 30th at 2:00 P.M. from the Fraser Road United Church. Interment followed at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Fraser Road United Church Memorial Fund or a charity of one's choice.
