KEAN, Wanda R. -
Passed peacefully away on October 2, 2003 at Brookfield Hospital, Wanda R. Kean of Lumsden, age 40 years. Predeceased by father, Hubert Kean; and grandparents, Thomas and Amelia Kean and Everett West. Left with fond and loving memories are her mother, Margaret of Lumsden; brother, Eugene of Gander; two sisters, Faye (Pat Goodyear) of Goulds, Tanya of Lumsden, grandmother, Myrtice West of Lumsden; nieces, Kristie Goodyear of Goulds, Ashley Kean of Gander; nephews, Trent Goodyear of Edmonton, Justin Kean of Gander, Adam Kean of Gander; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 4th at the Wesley United Church, Lumsden with Rev. M. Bowlby officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Lumsden. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove-Musgrave Harbour.

STARKES, George -
Passed peacefully away on October 3, 2003 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, George Starkes of Pool's Island at the age of 83. Predeceased by parents, Stephen and Caroline; sisters, Amanda and Annie, brothers, Walter, Albert, Steward and Maxwell; stepchildren, Edward and Hayward Hunt and brother-in-law, Frank Kelloway. Left with fond and loving memories are wife, Daisy; daughter, Kathleen Norris (William) of Newtown; sons, Junior (Joyce) of Pool's Island and Kevin (Sheila) of Cape Freels; stepson, Wilbur Hunt (Linda) of Mount Pearl; step-daughter, Lydia Dennis (Andy) of Scarborough, ON; sister, Jessie Kelloway of Brookfield; six grandchildren, Lori, Michael (Stephanie), Christa, Christopher, Ashley and Samantha; six step-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of family and friends. Funeral service was held on October 6th at St. James Anglican Church, Pool's Island with Rev. John Watton officiating. Interment followed at the Anglican Cemetery, Pool's Island. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove-Musgrave Harbour.

CUFF, Carrie -
Passed away on October 4, 2003 at Brookfield Hospital, Mrs. Carrie Cuff of Musgrave Harbour in her 64th year. Predeceased by her father, Japeth Melindy and daughter, Diane Cuff. Left with fond and loving memories are her husband, Harvey; three sons, Curtis (Madonna) of Musgrave Harbour, Owen (Goldie) of Musgrave Harbour and Jason (Denise) of Brampton, ON; one daughter, Donna LeBlanc (Eric) of Yarmouth, N; mother, Francis Melindy of Lumsden; four brothers, George (Bonnie) of Lumsden, Wilfred (Bess) of Brampton, ON; Ted (Sharon) of Lumsden and Lindsay (Donna) of Lumsden; one sister, Stella Gill (Ronald) of Lumsden; five grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Maryann, Marcus and Cody; also a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 7th at the Salvation Army Citadel, Musgrave Harbour. Interment at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Musgrave Harbour. WEST, Everett -
Passed peacefully away on October 4, 2003 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Everett West of Lumsden, age 84. Predeceased by daughter, Emma Chaulk, son-in-law, Hubert Kean; and granddaughter, Wanda Kean. Left with fond and loving memories are wife, Myrtis; son, Curtis (Deanne) of Lumsden; daughters, Margaret Kean of Lumsden, Marjorie Hiscock (George) of Gander and Joyce West (Wayne) of Lumsden; brothers, Charlie West (Daisy) of Musgrave Harbour and George West (Reta) of Lumsden; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 6th at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove with Rev. M. Bowlby officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Lumsden. COOK, Barbara -
Passed away on October 5, 2003 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Mrs. Barbara Cook, in her 93rd year. Predeceased by husband, William (1979); grandson, David (1981), Kenneth (1986); sister, Joan (1994); and brothers, Cyril and Stan. Left with fond and loving memories is daughter-in-law, Bernice Cook of Gander; grandchildren, Karen and Kevin; a small group of family in England; the staff and residents of Lakeside Homes, Gander; and a large circle of other close friends. Funeral service was held on October 7th at St. Martin's Anglican Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints Cemetery, Gander. Donations may be made to the SPCA, Children's Wish Foundation or the Mental Health Association. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home Limited, Gander.

BOURNE, Madeline Mary -
Passed peacefully away on October 7, 2003, surrounded by family, Madeline Mary Bourne, beloved wife of Gilbert Bourne, age 75. Predeceased by brothers, Sam and Mike Russell. Left with loving memories are her children, Linda Feltham (Carl), Brenda, Paul (Cindy), Kevin (Bobbie) and Cathy; cherished grandchildren, Leia Amanda Feltham, Brandon Matthew Bourne; brother, Pat (Eva); sisters, Henrietta, Margaret; special niece, Joan Moss (Don); sisters-in-law, Clara Wells (sister of Gilbert), Ann Russell, Gen Russell; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral mass was held on October 10th at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gander. Interment at All Saints Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Diabetes Association. ROGERS, Stella Blanche -
Passed peacefully away on October 10, 2003 at Saint John NB Regional Hospital, Stella Blanche Rogers of Gander, age 79 years. Left with fond and loving memories are sons, Wilson (Jane) of Thunder Bay, ON, Clyde (Margaret) of Haliburton, ON, Oliver (Sheila) of Gambo, NL., Wilmore (Sharon) of Gander, NL, Roy (Jackie) of Fruitvale, BC., Hank (Genny) of Barry, ON and Cordell (Sherri) of Scarborough, ON; daughters, May (Mac Owens) of Gander, NL, Jacqueline (Harris Jenkins) of Saint John, NB, Penny of Brampton, ON, Rhonda (Eldred Penney) of Gander, NL and Colleen (Gary Head) of Gander, NL; brother, George of Halifax, NS, also a large number of family and friends. Passed peacefully away on October 14, 2003 at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander, Maxwell John Watton, age 69 years. Predeceased by parents, Heber and Mary; and sisters, Winnie and Violet. Left with fond and loving memories are brothers, Walter (Irene) of Trinity East, NL, Stanley (Mildred) of Trinity East, NL, Roy (June) of Gander, and Vince of Trinity East, NL., also a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Passed peacefully away on October 14, 2003 at the Notre Dame Health Care Centre, Twillingate, Loretta Welsh of Grand Bank, formerly of Musgrave Harbour, age 90 years. Predeceased by her husband, George; parents, Jesse and Maria Abbott; stepmother, Phoebe Abbott; brothers, Samson, Harry, Ernie and Hector Abbott, Carson Pardy; sisters, Pearl Abbott, Jean Pardy and Meta Lewis. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are sons, Jim (Valeda) of Glovertown, Don (Dianne) of Goose Bay, Max (Tanya) of Summerford; grandchildren, Craig of Fort McMurray, Christa of Calgary, Jennifer and Jason of Corner Brook, Shawna and donna Rae of Summerford; sisters, Sadie Penney of Ontario, Barbara Pinsent of Musgrave Harbour, Joyce Pardy (Walter) of Musgrave Harbour, Maisie Goodyear (Nathaniel) of Lumsden; sisters-in-law, Nellie, Alicia and Eva Abbott, all of Musgrave Harbour and a great number of nephews and nieces and many friends. FOLEY, Agnes -
Passed away at Fogo Island Hospital on October 19, 2003, Agnes Foley of Tilting at the age of 80 years. Left to mourn her sons, Kevin (Johanna) of Whitby, Ontario, Clarence (Phyllis) of Gander, NL., Gerard (Darlene) of Tiling, NL and Gordon (partner Andrienne) of Whitby, Ontario; daughters, Bridget (Jerome Bowen) of gander, NL, Mary Sheppard of Lower Sackville, NS, Claire (Martin Hurley) of Tilting, NL, Laura (Derek Marsh) of Gander, NL, Judy (Neil Freake) of Far, Yukon, Patricia (Wayne Sharron) of Mount Pearl, NL and Maxine (Tony Roberts) of Bedford, NS; brother, Daniel Greene, 26 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Father John conducted funeral services at St. Patrick's Parish Church, Tilting, NL on October 21st with interment at St. Patrick's Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers were sons, Kevin, Clarence, Gerard, Gary and Gordon Foley; nephew, Patrick Greene. Funeral arrangements were by Garry Keats of Fogo Island Funeral Home.

FIFIELD, Sophie -
Passed peacefully away on October 21, 2003 at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay, Sophie Fifield of Wesleyville, age 82 years. Predeceased by daughters, Minnie Hillier and Mazie Fifield; sisters, Frances, Carrie and Alfreda; brothers, Ephriam, Alpheaus, Jacob and Hubert. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her husband, John residing at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay; four sons, Gerald (Helena) of Corner Brook, Melvin (Susie) of Wesleyville, Martin (Beverly) of Saskatchewan, Samuel (Maxine) of Wesleyville; two daughters, Annie (James Squires) of St. John's, Bernice (Carl Stokes) of Cape Freels; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 23rd at Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove, with Capt. Paul Rideout officiating. Interment followed at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Wesleyville. Donations in her memory may be made to the Salvation Army Building Fund, Wesleyville. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove.

BURTON, Maude -
Passed peacefully away on October 22, 2003 at Brookfield Hospital, Maude Burton of Badger's Quay, age 88 years. Predeceased by her husband, Lester and brother, Ralph White. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are one son, Clifford (Brenda) of Brampton, ON; two daughters, Audrey (Eli Wicks) of Badger's Quay, Joan Boese of Cranbury, New Jersey; four grandchildren, Robbie, Kim Chad and Corey; two great-grandchildren, Cameron and Griffin; a very special person, Maggie LeDrew; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 25th at the United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Tony Cole officiating. Interment followed from the United Church Cemetery, Valleyfield. Donations in her memory may be made to the Cancer Society. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Kittiwake Funeral Home, Pound Cove.

HOYLES, Joan -
Passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, after a short and courageous battle with cancer, on October 22, 2003 in Gander, NL, Joan Hoyles, age 61 years. Beloved wife of Peter and cherished mother of Andrea, Chris (Gail), Cathy (Peter) and Susan. Loving grandmother of Jennifer, Aaron, Lucas, Matthew and Nell. Joan is predeceased by her father, Norman Powell of Sandy Cove, NL. She is survived by her mother, Nellie Powell of Sandy Cove, NL, seven sisters, Norma (Kyrl), Alma (Garfield), Patricia (Steve), Olive, Kaye, Marilyn and Yvonne (Terry); as well as her brother, Eugene (Marjorie). Also left behind is a large circle of extended family and friends whose lives were enriched by the generosity, love, faith and grace of her spirit. Funeral service was held on October 25th at Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Interment at all Saints Cemetery. At Joan's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to a local food bank. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home Limited, Gander.

WARR, Allan S. -
Passed peacefully away on October 23, 2003 at Lakeside Homes, Gander, Allan S. Warr of Lewisporte, formerly of Purcelle's Harbour, age 92 years. Predeceased by his wife, Marion, and brothers, Frank, Harold and Carl. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are two sons, Donald (Betty) of Gander, Lorne of Vancouver, BC; three grandchildren, Catherine (Brampton, ON), Aaron (Fredericton, NB), and Jillian (Gander); sisters-in-law, Annie Warr (Lewisporte), Margret Godfrey (Ottawa, ON), Viola Guy (Richmond Hill, ON); brother-in-law, Clarence Hoddinott (Embree); nieces and nephews and their families, and a number of long-time friends. Allan was a WWII veteran and will be remembered in Burgeo, Greenspond and Englee areas as a fish inspector for the Department of Fisheries. Funeral service was held on October 25th at St. Matthew's United Church, Lewisporte with Rev. Arthur Elliott officiating. Legion members performed the Last Post ceremony and hared the duties of pallbearers with the United Church Men. Interment was at St. Matthew's United Church Cemetery, Lewisporte. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey's Funeral Home, Lewisporte.

STAGG, John Arthur -
Passed peacefully away on October 24, 2003 at Brookfield Hospital, John Arthur Stagg of Badger's Quay, age 90 years. Predeceased by his wife, Emily; sisters, Ena Whalen and Jane Gibbons. Left with fond and loving memories are his sons, Rex (Linda) of Badger's Quay, Tom (Colleen) of Grand Falls-Windsor, Lloyd (Phyllis) of Valleyfield; daughter, Shirley Combden (Jim) of Badger's Quay; brother, Jerry Stagg (Viola) of Valleyfield; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lisa) of Torbay, Glenn (Peggy) of Torbay, Cara of Australia, Andrew of Grand Falls-Windsor, Vicki of Torbay, Melanie of St. John's; great-grandchildren, Jack, Sam, Cassie, all of Torbay; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on October 27th at the United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Tony Cole officiating. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery, Valleyfield. CORNICK, W.B. (Bill) -
Passed peacefully away at the DVA Caribou Pavilion, Botwood, in his 80th year on Sunday, October 26, 2003, W.B. (Bill) Cornick. Bill was a longtime resident of Gander and ex-RAF WWII. Predeceased by his wife, Marjory in 1998 and son, Bob in 1972. Leaving to cherish his memory are daughters, Jean (Douglas Crosbie) of Clarke's Beach, Patty (John MacInnis) of Barrie, ON; son, Peter (Patricia) of Mount Pearl, NL; daughter, Anne (Colin Smith) of Niagara Falls, ON; and their families. Also leaving to mourn sisters, Grace (Mrs. Freeman Forsey) of Grand Bank and Dorothy Chaulk of St. John's. At Bill's request, cremation has taken place. It is with great sadness that the family of Martin Stokes of Valleyfield, age 75 years, announce his passing on October 28, 2003 at Brookfield Hospital. Predeceased by his parents, George and Minnie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ebert and Martha Goodyear; sister, Lucy Stagg; brother and sister-in-law, Aubrey and Lily Stokes; brothers-in-law, Guy Stagg, Joseph Mullett, Fred Goosney. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Edith; sons, Garland (Beverly) of St. John's, George (Beverley) of Brookfield, Dave (Bride) of St. John's, Ross of Hampton, Baxter (Karen) of Badger's Quay; daughter, Daphne Hounsell (Winston) of Pound Cove, with whom he resided; sisters, Evelyn Mullett of Bay Roberts, Violet Stagg of Cape Freels, Daisy Goosney of Fredericton, NB; brother-in-law, Cecil Stagg of Badger's Quay; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral service took place on October 31st at Memorial United Church, Valleyfield with Rev. Tony Cole officiating. Interment followed at the United Cemetery, Valleyfield. EARLE, Madalene (Blake) -
Passed peacefully away on October 29, 2003 at the Central Regional Hospital, Grand Falls-Windsor, Madalene (Blake) Earle, in her 73rd year. Predeceased by husband, Harry Earle; parents, Herbert and Nellie Blake (Oake); sister-in-law, Janet Hori (Earle) and brother-in-law, Malcolm Earle. Left with loving memories are daughters, Jean (George) White of Grand Falls-Windsor, Christine (Philip) Lingard of Bishop's Falls, Kathryn (Kenneth) Slaney of Gander; brother, Lloyd Blake (Nadene) of Twillingate; grandchildren, Annette (White) and husband, Neil Walsh, Susan (White) and husband, Peter Keough; Jason Lingard and friend, Sherry Nippard, Jeffrey and Justin Lingard; Christopher and Katie Slaney; nieces and nephews, Roslyn Blake, Jocelyn Bath, Betty Pardy, John Earle, Robert, David, Bill Miller and Sarah Pynn; also a large circle of relatives and friends. Funeral service was held on November 1st at Fraser Road United Church, Gander. Interment at United Cemetery, Grand Falls-Windsor. Donations may be made in her memory to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of Canada. Thanks to Edith Burt, friend and cousin, for spending time and caring for her during her illness. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our mother. She was a tower of strength, in control at all times and will be dearly missed.
