STEAD, Karen Renee -
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Renee Stead (nee Gordon), age 36, of Paradise, formerly of Glovertown, at the Health Sciences Complex following a courageous battle with cancer. Karen leaves to mourn her loving husband, Ashley of 13 years, two precious sons, Branden and Jordan, parents, Hedley and Rita Gordon of Glovertown; sisters, Rhonda (Richard Isabelle) of Oromocto, NB, Cathy (Brian Swan) of Glovertown, Janet-Ann (Perry Dyke) of Moncton; brothers, Jerwin (Crystal) of Terra Nova, Robert (Diane) of Glovertown; brothers-in-law, Kevin (Dawn), Boyd (Jeannie) and Dwight (Barb) - all of Calgary, AB; sister-in-law, Geraldine (Harold Harvey) of Eastport. Karen also leaves to mourn a large extended family and a large circle of friends. Funeral service was held at the Pentecostal Church in Glovertown on November 7th. Interment followed at the Salvage Cemetery. Donations in Karen's memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to all for their love and support through this difficult time with special mention to Husky Oil and Compass Ltd.

SAUNDERS, William
(November 18, 1939 - November 4, 2009)
of Gambo -
Passed away peacefully at home, William was predeceased by his parents, Flossie and Arthur and younger brother, Clifford. Left to celebrate his life, his wife, Jacqueline (Harty); their children, Amanda Will (Gavin) of Portugal Cove, NL; Bill Saunders (Terri) of Edmonton, AB; Barbara Dowding (Stephen) of Saint John, NB, and Ian Saunders (Kathy) of Calgary, AB; grandchildren, Alice and Francis, Eva and Duncan, Evan, Ryan and Sean, and Zakari; brother, Gus Saunders (Shirley) of Gambo, NL; sisters-in-law, Patsy Jamieson (Eldon) of Charlottetown, PEI; Josephine Shea (Kip) of Gander, NL and Mary Fowler (Ralph) of Fort Saskatchewan, AB; brother-in-law, Michael Harty (Georgina) of Gambo, NL and all his nieces and nephews. And, of course, Storm, his Labrador Retriever. A special thank you to Dr. Eileen St. Croix, the wonderful nursing staff at the Cancer Clinic at James Paton Hospital, Gander and Christine and Sherri for their guidance and support, and who helped us care for him at home. Cremation has taken place. Internment will occur at a later date. As an expression of sympathy, donations in his memory can be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. PEGLER, Ruby Elizabeth -
Passed peacefully away at her home in Delvin, Ontario on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, Ruby Elizabeth (Innes) Pegler, formerly of Traytown, NL, aged 65 years. Predeceased by her mother, Helen Hutchings-Patten; father, John Innes; stepfather, Hedley Patten; brothers, Herbert (Bud) and Winston Patten; sisters, Maude Ralph and Winnifred Ralph. Left with fond and loving memories her husband, Mike Pegler; daughters, Lynn Ammann (Ken) of Alberta and Tami Birkett (Ray) of Alberta; sons, Tom Henderson (Jennifer) of Manitoba and Paul Henderson (Suzanne) of Alberta; sisters, Stella Ralph (Gordon) of Traytown, Katie McLean of Charlottetown, PEI, Millie Kennedy of Connecticut, USA and Mary Ralph, Kanata, ON; brother, Robert (Bob) Patten (Karen) of Corner Brook; grandchildren, Piper and Taylor Ammann; Bree and Nathan Henderson; Isabella and William Henderson, Desiree, Jordan, Hugh and Noah Birkett and a large number of relatives and friends. Interment will take place at non-denominational Cemetery in Traytown. In her memory donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.

PARSONS, Bernard Reginald -
It is with sadness on November 8, 2009 that we announce the passing of Bernard Reginald Parsons at the age of 81. He was a loving husband and father. Bernie served his country loyally through both military and civil service. Bernie was a dedicated member of the Masons at the Ottawa Lodge. A good man who will be missed by all family members. Predeceased by his parents, Gilford and Susan Parsons, wife, Phebie (Brown). Left with loving memories are his son, Rona (Sandra) of Martinsville, SK; daughters, Susan (Dave) Robichaud of Barrie, ON, Edy (Eric) Hoyles of Gander, NL; brothers, Tom (Marie) of Appleton, NL, David of Red Deer, AL; grandchildren, Jason, Joe, Jonathon, Jamie, Adrian, Duncan and Meghan, also a large circle of other relatives and friends. PENTON, Mary Ellen (nee Green) -
Passed peacefully away at Bonnews Lodge, Badger's Quay on Monday, November 9, 2009, Mary Ellen Penton (nee Green), age 87 years of Valleyfield. Predeceased by her husband, Ambrose; parents, Nicholas and Bridget Green; son, Larry; brothers, Patrick, Thomas, Jack, Len, Ron; sister, Ann. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are her sons, Pearce (Eva) of Valleyfield, Jen (Emma) of Valleyfield, Ambrose (Blanche) of Marystown, John (Patsy) of Badger's Quay; daughters, Marie (Norm Burt) of Bishop's Falls, Frances (Carl Oakley) of Brookfield, Lucy (Wilbur) Stratton of Valleyfield, Annette (Terry Janes) of Ft. McMurray, Pauline (Raymond Brown) of Ft. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital on November 10, 2009, Raymond Oram of Gambo. Leaving to mourn children, Claude (Bernice), Steve (Molly), Azzie (Sharon), Past (Fred), Dick (Arlene), Josie (Frazer), Lillian (Jim) and Keith (Jeanne). Funeral service took place at Emmanuel United Church in Gambo on November 14th. Interment followed at the United Church Cemetery in Gambo. HOOKEY, Eileen (Cashin) -
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Health Centre, Gander on November 12, 2009, Eileen Hookey (Cashin), age 77 years. Predeceased by parents, William (Bill) and Mary Cashin. Left with loving memories are her husband, Douglas; sons, Ken (Kim) of St. John's, Glenn of Toronto, ON, Christ of Enfield, NS; daughters, Carol of St. John's, Brenda (Kevin) of Toronto; grandchildren, Emma, Katie, Daniel and Jonna; brothers, Frank Cashin of Mount Pearl, Mike Cashin of Fredericton, NB; sisters, Josephine Smyth of Gander, Julie (Les) Rendell of St. John's. BRAGG, Stuart -
Passed suddenly away at Brookfield Hospital on Saturday, November 14, 2009, Stuart Bragg, aged 71 years of Greenspond. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Edith Bragg; brother-in-law, Dominic Curran. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife, Amelia (nee Burry); sons, Clyde (Diane) of Greenspond and Derrick (Beverley) of Greenspond; brothers, Thomas (Frances) of Greenspond and Michael (Gloria) of Greenspond; sisters, Verna Carter (Donald) of Gander, Doris Curran of Gander and Alice Mullett (Peter) of Gambo; grandchildren, Roger, Jason, Kayla and Allison; and a large circle of other relatives and many friends. Passed away suddenly at his home in Loretteville, Quebec on Monday, November 16, 2009, Fernand Garneau, aged 59 years. Left to mourn are his wife, Marilyn (Reynolds), formerly of Gander; two sons, Patrick and Brian - both from Loretteville, Quebec and a large circle of family and friends.

Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on November 16th, 2009, James Muggridge, age 85. Predeceased by parents Walter & Mary-Ann, brother Raymond, sisters Annie & Martha. CHEATER, Iris (Saunders)

Passed away at Brookfield Hospital on November 20, 2009, after a very courageous battle with cancer, Iris (Saunders) Cheater, formerly of Coward's Island. Predeceased by her husband, Lionel; parents, Abner and Ethel; sisters, Ivy and Ida. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are Doris (Bob), Art (Anna); three grandsons and great-grandchildren; brothers, Bob (Lucy), Tom (Pearl); brother-in-law, Lon; niece and nephews. SQUIRES, Emily Blanche -
Passed peacefully away in the presence of her family on Friday, November 20, 2009, Emily Blanche Squires at the age of 97 years. Predeceased by her husband, Chesley; daughters, Marjorie and Sylvia; son, Thomas; granddaughters, Linda, Daisy, Mary and Theresa; sons-in-law, Malcolm LeDrew and Ben Ludlow. Left with loving memories are her sons, Overton (Bonnie), Milton (Janet), Bruce, Gordon (Blanche), all of Wings Point, NL; daughters, Phyllis Ludlow (Terry Webber) of Goose Bay, Labrador, Eileen (Gilmore) Harris of George's Point; brother, Wilson (Dulcie) Fancey of Wings Point, NL; sisters, Flora Peckford of Clarkes Head, NL, Jean Shea (Austin Francis) of Glenwood, NL; special nephew, Edgar (Olive) Fancey of Burin, NL; thirty-five grandchildren; seventy-one great-grandchildren; forty great-great-grandchildren; also, a large circle of other relatives and friends. HANCOCK, Herman -
Passed peacefully away at Lakeside Homes, Gander on November 25th, 2009, Herman Hancock, age 81. Predeceased by parents, Henry James & Laura (nee Lane) and wife, Gertie (nee Tuff). Left to mourn with loving memories are his sons, Perry (Monique) of Toronto, ON, Glenn (Tracy) of Goulds, NL; sister, Nellie of Happy Adventure, NL; grandchildren, Alex, Sarah, Jasmine, Lily, Mae and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Born in Happy Adventure in 1928 at a young age, he fished in the summer with his father (who died during Herman's youth) and worked in the lumber camps during the winter. He soon realized fishing was not for him, instead, he trained as a mechanic which saw him apprentice in Fort William, ON and Corner Brook before moving to Gander to work with Hickman Motors. He married Gertie in 1961. Perry was born in 1962 and Glenn was born in 1964. Gertie passed away in 1984. He retired in 1990. Herman was a generous man, giving freely of his time and many skills to family and friends. He enjoyed his retirement immensely which was rich with family, friends, travel, music and spirituality. He was extremely active in the church and strong in his faith. Funeral service took place on Saturday, November 28th, at 11:00 A.M. from St. Martin's Anglican Church, Gander. Internment followed at All Saints Cemetery. Donation's in Herman's memory may be made to St. Martin's Anglican Church. Arrangements entrusted through Stacey's Funeral Home, Gander. Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on November 29, 2009, Garfield West, age 85. Predeceased by parents, Ida & William West; his wife, Myrtice; brother, Edward; sisters, Daisy, Alva, Juanita.
